Nice work!

Great work on fungicide! It's amazing how after 149 edits by 26 editors, nearly all of the content on that page has been added in 2 edits by Million_Moments ([1]) and yourself.

Whoa!

Hey. I was watching the new pages log and I noticed you created Major Uses of Fungicides. Nice! I don't know if I've ever seen a page like that at all on Wikipedia. Good job on referencing everything as well. I would like to point out something that could've made referencing a heck of a lot easier. If you enable this tool in your "my preferences" in the top right of Wikipedia, then it would simplify things! Namely, it would allow you to easily "name references" so that you can cite the same reference many times in one article w/o needing to create a new place for that reference each time. For example, you have several references listed like 10 times each, making the "total" amount of references somewhere around 350 475. Hey, i was hoping someone out there could give me a hand. I'm editing an article I started last week, Uses of Fungicides, but I need clarificaiton on links within wikipedia articles. Basically what I am wondering is within an article how often do you make a word link to another wikipedia article? For example in uses of fungicides the article talks about many different U.S. states many times. Now what I am wondering is let's say for California how often do I link to the California page when I mention the state? Only the first time? Everytime? It is a lengthy article so it seems like I should link to it more than once but not every single time. I tried to find wikipedia guidelines on this somewhere but kinda struggled to so I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light. Thanks! CPRI04 (talk) 18:04, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Careful with cut and pasting copyrighted material...

Please do not add copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Fungicide. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Yilloslime, sorry about that! My question is how can I show that I do have permission from the copyright holder? As part of my job I do extensive crop protection research and as a result have worked with Leonard Gianessi before. I actually do have his permission to use that material. I spoke to him before I put it up on wikipedia and asked him if he was ok with it and he has said he does not mind. His report was not disseminated very well when it was first published so he was happy to hear that his work could at least have an impact here. So just let me know how to show I do have the permission and I will get that up right away! Again, sorry about that. --CPRI04 (talk) 20:14, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey, cool. I'm not a copyright expert, I was just reading that section and the prose sounded a little too good, so I popped some sentences into the google and the CropLife report came up. Good luck getting the copyright release. Whether or not it's granted, I would encourage you put the material in your into your own words, rather quoting large chunks of it (with or without quotation marks). I'd also suggest incorporating additional sources. Relying too much on one source can raise WP:NPOV issues: I imagine CropLife has a somewhat different view of the value of pesticides than the EPA or, say, the NRDC.

I also notice that Uses of fungicides is largely or perhaps entirely a cleaned-up and formatted cut-and-paste from that same source. As the same copyright issue applies, I'm going to blank that page for now. Yilloslime (t) 22:19, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Yilloslime, I appreciate the guidance you have offered and I'm sorry about all the confusion. In retrospect, definitely didn't go about this article as best I could. As I had said before this was my first article so I am kind of figuring this out as I go. I originally went with this because as I said on the article talk page I found it to be a good report when it came out and I actually had to go and check a vast number of those citations for my job so I knew it to be accurate, but as you pointed out even if it is legal for me to put this up here a rewritten article would be far superior. So I do plan on rewriting this article, I think with some effort it can definitely be a valuable addition to the wikipedia community. However, even though I am rewriting, I did request that Mr. Gianessi note on his website that these documents have no copyright just so I can sort of clear my name on the copyright issue. But anyways I will work on this, add in some of my sources, etc. and hopefully be able to post a new and even better version soon! Thanks again, Yilloslime CPRI04 (talk) 21:37, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
