Categorization

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for helping out with the categorization of articles. One thing you should be aware of, though: when categorizing articles, please try to place them in the most specific category possible. For example, adding Category:Canton, Ohio to the Pro Football Hall of Fame is a very good idea, but it's not necessary to add Category:Stark County, Ohio as well, because the Canton category is a subcategory of the Stark County category. Thanks! - EurekaLott 22:41, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you have added Template:Blanchard Valley Conference to a bunch of villages in Hancock County, Ohio. Since these articles do not even mention the relevant school districts, are these really appropriate places to put this template? Also why pick Rawson and not Mt. Cory for Cory-Rawson? Liberty-Benton should link to Liberty Township or to Benton Ridge, but most definitely not to Findlay (I removed the template and your map is off for LB too). Pandora-Gilboa Local School District, Putnam County, Ohio and Leipsic Local School District, Putnam County, Ohio do exist as articles and should be linked. These could be models for you to make stubs for the other school districts, or at the very least add some mention of the district to the village / township articles. Thanks, Ruhrfisch 04:56, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

 • Just a quick response (then I am off to bed). The template itself is fine - I assumed you made the BVC page (which I now see is where the faulty links are from) and the map too (did not check, my fault). Tomorrow I will put a version of my comments on the talk pages for the conference and Frank12 (main author it seems). Take care, Ruhrfisch 05:22, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uncategorized articles

[edit]

Hello, and thanks for helping clear out the backlog of uncategorized pages. We've got a lot to work on, and all efforts are appreciated. Please make sure, though, to remove the uncategorized template; otherwise, the article still shows up as uncategorized and still has the blue tag. Thanks again. Reverted OH Civil War regimental cats

[edit]

Hello CRKingston! I am the member of the Wikipedia American Civil War Task Force that monitors (and writes) many of the Civil War articles related to the state. I removed the category:Ohio in the Civil War that you added, as the subcategory Category:Ohio Civil War regiments is already linked into the parent cat Category:Ohio in the Civil War. Wiki convention (which we try to follow for all Civil War articles) is not to link both the parent and subcat in these articles. Regards! By the way, feel free to look at WP:ACW and User:Hlj/CWediting for tips and guidelines for Civil War material. Yours truly! Scott Mingus 00:54, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

People from Dunedin

[edit]

Hi CRKingston - I note you're adding a new "People from Dunedin" category to a lot of New Zealanders' articles - when you do so, pleaser emove the "People from Otago" category". Since Dunedin is the largest centre in Otago, and "People from Dunedin" is (now) a subcat of "People from Otago", they don't need to be in both. Grutness...wha? 05:51, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For what it's worth, Rawi Hage was already filed in Category:People from Beirut; did you not notice, or were you trying to add it to a different category and typed the wrong thing by mistake? Bearcat 16:48, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No worries...gawd knows I've done both of those things myself sometimes, too :-) Bearcat 02:34, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, is this edit correct or a typo? I can't see any reference to it in the article text itself? -- Chuq 04:38, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would add it, but the problem is I'm not sure it is the same person - it is a fairly common name I guess. -- Chuq 04:57, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated this article and many others (list below) for deletion. I feel that you may have gone a little overboard on adding small library systems in Ohio to Wikipedia; I'm not sure that they meet the notability guidelines, and I thought that it would be better to have a public discussion of the matter than to just try to quietly "prod" or "speedy delete" so much work on your part. Feel free to take part in the discussion, which is linked from any of the pages, at the top.

Also nominated: Garnet A. Wilson Public Library, Herrick Memorial Library, London Public Library (Ohio), Mary L. Cook Public Library, Monroe County District Library, Mount Sterling Public Library, Perry Public Library, Plain City Public Library, Sylvester Memorial Public Library, Wauseon Public Library, Wayne Public Library, Wellsville Carnegie Public Library, Weston Public Library, Willard Memorial Library, Wilmington Public Library of Clinton County --Brianyoumans 04:31, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ohio libraries

[edit]

While I don't see a pressing need for separate library articles, I do see a strong need that the project team should be the ones who make the decision, not a group of outsiders with no vested interest in the project. Hence, I have asked the person who brought this up in the first place to take his argument directly to the Wiki project members for final decision. Scott Mingus 17:28, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are most welcome. By the way, I am an alum of Miami University in Oxford, OH, and lived the vast majority of my life in my native Ohio. I get back there a couple times a month on frequent business trips. My hometown library is John McIntyre Library in Zanesville, Ohio. Scott Mingus 18:25, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
 • I added my two cents on the Adams County Public Library article. Basically I'd like to see them expanded with more history and background where possible. If there isn't that much info, move it to a section on the article about Adams County so that your research doesn't go to waste. I also agree that such decisions need to be made by project members or it defeats their purpose! Hope I was of help!! --JonRidinger 01:21, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

nature clinical practice journals

[edit]

1. These are not American publications--they are UK publications--Nature Publishing Group is a UK publisher, 2. These are not monthly magazines, or magazines of any sort--in the scientific subjects magazine is a non-peer reviewed journal, such as scientific american, or Library journal They are journals, which are peer-reviewed publications. The difference is important.

 • For documentation, see the linked articles.

You seem to have added the wrong categories to all the NPG journals. Not your fault, because sience journals are peculiar, but you did categorize them wrong, and I hope you will go down the last and remove the two inappropriate categories. If you;d like to do more work with the many incomplete articles for this sort of publication, I would be glad to assist.DGG 22:41, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for offering to fix. Just let me know when you'd want to start (after the new year) and we'll find a project. I can't work as fast as you do, and there are another 8000 articles of journals awaiting improvement.DGG 02:04, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings friend! Easton area here, in construction hell as you may have observed. Grew up in Westerville. I saw that someone was suggesting a merge for the Westerville Public Library article. I'm not sure if you knew, but there is a museum there that is quite valuable in our nation's history for the Anti-Saloon League. I've added a two sections to the article and cited all of my references. Please check it out if you have a chance and let me know if you have any further suggestions. Happy holidays! Self-declared Messiahs

[edit]

Saw that you added this category to Meher Baba. The Meher Baba editors are an emotional bunch, so it was quickly removed. I think it is worth preserving. I'll make an effort to include it by promoting it on the MB discussion page.--Nemonoman 16:18, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SVG??

[edit]

Is it possible to upload SVG files, and have wiki automatically convert it on the fly to png? If so how do I do this, when I tried to upload an SVG it said it was not a recommended format, I did not see a way to force it to go. I noticed in the uploaded files area you have a couple that are .svg.png. --Green-Dragon 06:37, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where can I find the help option? --Green-Dragon 06:42, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you repair some "Categories" damage at the above? I do not know why the Baruch College & Rockefeller University people categories are in red.

Re [1]. It's such a clever way to do it - I found out about it at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2007-01-02/Technology report. Just remember it's a colon ":" not a pipe "|" (which I forgot the 2nd time I did it and had to look it up again). -- Jeandré, 2007-01-09t11:06z

Renaming cats

[edit]

Thanks for the congrats on my new book. It's selling well at various Gettysburg stores. You might enjoy it! It's all short stories (all true).

I ran into this cat problem once before. Unfortunately, I was unable to figure out how to fix it, so I simply made a new cat with the right name and nominated the erroneous one for speedy deletion. An administrator came along and subsequently wiped out the old cat.

regards!!!

I would like to offer my services if you have any renderings of the flood's limits, maps of the dam locations, etc. you would like me to draw up for this article. I'm trying to start getting ALL of Dayton nationally recognized historic sites and districts, and spreading out to the county. Have you tried to use photos for the flood? I'm sure many have become public domain. Anymore discussion I'll take to the thread itself :)--Kjmoran 02:29, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you have a look at this? I think all the anon number changes might've introduced some errors. Besides, if it's based on 2006 numbers, it should be renamed or fully updated with new sources. -Mgm|(talk) 10:08, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arctic Islands

[edit]

Category:Arctic islands I spent a large part of last night cleaning up and organising this category. Amongst other things, I removed a lot of duplicated categories, so that articles did not appear in both parent and child. You asked me about it on my Talk page, and I repled in good faith. Now, without further discussion you have undone a lot of my work. Why? Bards 00:18, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stop missorting

[edit]

You've been running around slapping the DEFAULTSORT magic word on bunches of articles. So why in the world, when you add categories to articles without adding this magic word, are you sticking them in there without the proper sort keys, even when the other categories are already properly indexed. For example, this edit of Datça. Will you please go back and fix that, and any others like it. Gene Nygaard 05:26, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lily Elsie is another one with a different problem there, only half-way indexed in that case, won't distinguish from others with the same surname, and the other categories were already properly sorted. Gene Nygaard 05:30, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Start with Victoria Island, it's in the Category:Islands of Nunavut which is in Category:Lands with Arctic islands which is in Category:Arctic islands which is in Category:Arctic Ocean, so the category is not required in the Victoria Island article.

Baffin Island I replaced here but then removed as I realised that Category:Baffin Island is already in Category:Islands of Nunavut. I just thought about the categories that it's in and removed two of them. I added to the Baffin Island category and it is also alreday in Category:Baffin Bay.

Muskox are land animals and should be in categories like Category:Flora and fauna of Nunavut and other countries/regions.

With the District of Franklin I changed the category then changed it back. But I'm still not sure that either one is correct.

As to this, this and this. Nunavut and the Qikiqtaaluk Region are not parts of Baffin Island or Baffin Bay. It's the other way round. Putting them like that is the same as going to the United States article and putting it in Category:Arizona or going to Arizona and putting it in Category:Phoenix, Arizona.

Besides that I noticed that you have been busy and doing a lot of good work in putting other northern related articles intto better categories. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 22:51, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Wild Cherry album cover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Wild Cherry album cover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:44, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Phoenix Pride Commission

[edit]

A prod template has been added to the article Phoenix Pride Commission, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with db-author. B. Wolterding 17:45, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Template:HSSportConference

A tag has been placed on Template:HSSportConference requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes.

WikiProject Ohio Newsletter

[edit]

Issue II - May 2008
From the editor:

Here's Issue II of the project newsletter. We're trying to decide if this is sinking or floating. If you would like to contribute to next month's newsletter please jump right in at the News Desk! Have a great May.

The Ohio Portal

The maintainers of the Ohio Portal are looking to get it to featured status. They would like to ask all project members to help improve it any way they can. What needs to be done most is the supplying of selected articles and images.

Selected Article: Indian Head Rock

There is a eight ton rock in Ohio that was removed from the Ohio River. This rock is known as the Indian Head Rock Dating back to the early 1800’s, this rock was seen sticking out of the Ohio River and used as a navigational mark for barges along the river. The names of citizens from the town of Portsmouth, Ohio are carved into the rock from the late nineteenth a early twentieth centuries. Some of the names were of well known families from Ohio. They would swim out to the rock, have their picture taken with it or simply carve their names into it.
With the advent of the Locks and Dams along the Ohio River, the rock eventually was submerged, but the legend lived on. A gentleman from Ironton, Ohio located the rock after searching a very long time for it, and he and a crew of scuba divers recovered the rock and took it to the shore to be donated to Ohio for historical value.
After hearing the news about the rock being removed, Kentucky introduced legislation against the removal of the rock. They also want the diver who found it to be prosecuted for removing the rock. Kentucky owns the greatest part of the land the river runs on. Even the Army Corp. of Engineers got involved as to how to move the rock without damaging it. Kentucky wants to have it returned to the river.

Getting the Project Moving
 • WikiProject Ohio as an entity doesn't have as much action as other state projects. For this reason it has been proposed that the inactive WikiProject Ohio Townships be added as our taskforce. There is a !poll going on at WT:OH and your opinion is essential in the matter!
 • Stepshep has also proposed sending an invite to everyone in Category:Wikipedians in Ohio with an invite to join the project. If you are already a member you would not receive the notice of course. Once again, please note your opinion on the project talkpage.

The Central Avenue Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located at 201 to 338 Central Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. It consists of late 19th and 20th Century Revival-style houses as well as late Victorian-style houses, which were all originally single-family residences.

On December 16, 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Each month a new Ohio related stub is the selected article. If you have a new stub created feel free to nominate it at the NewsDesk.

Image permission problem with Image:ATMann.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:ATMann.jpg I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

 • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
 • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. dave pape (talk) 01:53, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (File:Max Weinberg 7 album.jpg)

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Max Weinberg 7 album.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You are in Edit history as an editor on this article. It has been multiply tagged for improvement as an alternative to being recommended for deletion. This is a request for editorial intervention to improve this article. Please help if possible.

Opportunity to comment on Batavia

[edit]

There is a discussion starting up at Talk:Batavia (disambiguation), that may be of interest to you. The subject is technically a page move discussion, but the purpose of the discussion is to decide where Batavia should redirect. Until earlier today, Batavia redirected to History of Jakarta, but during this discussion, it is redirecting to Batavia (disambiguation). Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for your help. HuskyHuskie (talk) 22:40, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are receiving this because you are one of the principal editors of one of the articles that is linked to Batavia (disambiguation). This notice is being posted to all of the top three editors of each of these articles (in terms of total edits), with the following exceptions:

 • editors who are blocked
 • anonymous IP editors
 • editors who, despite ranking in the top three of edits to an article, have only a single edit to said article

This is an attempt to be a neutrally-phrased posting in keeping with the principles of WP:CANVASS. If you find anything in the wording or the manner posted to be a violation of that guideline, please notify me at my talk page.

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Jay Baer may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
 • ]. He is a Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Arizona {1991) with a major in political science and a minor in communications. Baer attended college as a [[http:
