A tag has been placed on Lord Fletcher's, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Article deletion[edit]

Hi, I saw that this was nominated for deletion because it was seen as promotional. Looking at it offhand, I can see where the concerns lay.

Avoid terms like "high quality" and statements like "Michael Fletcher, the current owner and operator, can often be found greeting the guests with warm welcomes and making sure that everything is running smoothly." These are seen as promotional because they're written to make the place look as good as possible and are highly subjective to the reader. What is good or bad will depend on the reader and ultimately, Wikipedia should not be directly telling a person that a place is good or have an article come across as non-neutral.

I'm also concerned about the restaurant's notability, as the article is only sourced with a primary source - the official website. You need independent and reliable sources to establish how this business passes the notability guidelines. Local coverage alone won't do it, as local coverage is greatly depreciated on Wikipedia. Also avoid travel guides, as that's considered to be routine coverage for the most part. Basically, you want to show where the restaurant is covered outside of the local area.

Finally, be very careful of the name. There are two restaurants out there that use the name Lord Fletcher. One is located in Minnesota and is named Lord Fletcher's, while the one in California is more specifically named Lord Fletcher Inn. Even if it is locally referred to as Lord Fletcher's, the Wikipedia article should use the formal name of the business. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:58, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article copy[edit]

Hi! I've asked the admin (Huon) who deleted the page if they would be willing to restore the page so you can improve it and show the work to your professor. If they don't restore it, then I've asked if it's OK to email you a copy to show your professor as proof that you worked on the article. On a side note, I saw that you don't have your email enabled - you can enable it by following the directions here. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:34, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but I won't restore the page. If the restaurant is notable (which seems doubtful), then writing a new article from scratch would be less effort than trying to turn that page into an acceptable encyclopedia article. It was so blatantly promotional that it out-promoted even the restaurant's own "about us" page, its only source. Spam is not acceptable on Wikipedia. Shalor mentioned one particularly egregious example above; some others are: "draws crowds in from near and far", "strives to uphold the true ambiance of old English cuisine", "unique and authentic art", "a true taste of the family foundation that Lord Fletcher's takes pride in", "those who enter the doors, leave feeling like family". Those are examples from every single paragraph of the article. And I could go on; these examples, however, should suffice to show that the whole page was highly inapproriate for an encyclopedia. What I could restore is the list of possible references that weren't actually cited in the article and that had been moved to the article's talk page. Maybe those might serve to write a new, neutral article. I also have no objections to Shalor emailing you the content (or can do it myself if that helps and you activate the email feature), but that content should not again find its way onto Wikipedia. I have emailed the page's latest revision before it was nominated for speedy deletion. Huon (talk) 15:49, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
