My Request for Adminship

Thanks for contributing to my RfA! Thank you for your support in my my RfA, which passed with a tally of 117/0/1. I hope that my conduct as an admin lives up to the somewhat flattering confidence the community has shown in me. Please don't hesitate to leave a message on my talk page should you need anything or want to discuss something with me. I'd also like to thank you for thinking so highly of me that you !voted twice (until I highlighted that to you)!--Nilfanion (talk) 15:43, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the prson who tagged that as a copyvio was a little over-enthusiastic. If you take a look at the page it's allegedly a copyvio from, that page actually cites Wikipedia as its source. I propose undeleting it, if that's OK by you? Tonywalton  | Talk 20:46, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see what you mean. Odd though, the last version of As The Sun Sets was tagged as a copyvio from [1] warning, plays music at you but doesn't seem to be. Looks like someone copyvio'ed, then the page was moved to correct capitalisation, then the original page was recreated, then the original wrongly-capitalised page was cited elsewhere... Eurgh. My head hurts! Tonywalton  | Talk 20:56, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think I'll recreate it and move to "As The Sun Sets". As for notability, I reckon As The Sun Sets' singer, bassist, and drummer moved on to form the successful grind band Daughters fulfils the bit of WP:BAND that says Contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable. Cheers. Tonywalton  | Talk 21:05, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of my term

Hey Canadian-Bacon, you deleted my definiton of Fan-Generated Media for lack of content. What exactly do I have to do to make sure it stays? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sportsfan500 (talkcontribs) 21:13, 9 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Hi,

I spent quite some time explaining why I thought the term adpack should stay, but it was unceremoniously ripped out before I even heard a reply to any of my comments. Could you please at least reply to my argument for keeping it in? I understand you feel it is 'advertising', but in that case any description for any person, place or product is also advertising. Where do you draw the line? Is it 'how' it's written or a personal opinion of 'what' it is being written about?

If in the end you tell me that it's over, then I will just have to grin and bear it, but I was genuinely trying to get you to help me change the content so that it WAS acceptable. Could you please help me by telling me how I should alter the information I wrote so that it IS acceptable. Much in the same way as there are many stories about 'products' on here already.

Hope to hear back from you soon.

Bill Micro 00:50, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ADPACK

OK I'll do my best to answer your concerns:

I am satisfying the following criteria by showing you articles written by other people regarding Rudy Labordus, Breakthrough Corporation and Adpack. I trust this meets your criteria for having 'notability'?

Criteria for products and services

A product or service is notable if it meets any of the following criteria:

  1. The product or service has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the company itself.

Sources

[1] http://www.gizmag.com.au/go/2743/

[2] http://www.advi.ru/search/search.php?skey=adpack&s_kor=1&s_kgo=%E8%F1%EA%E0%F2%FC (it's in Russian though - but I do have the 4 page spread that they printed in the magazine if you need to see it)

[3] http://www.adwordsadsensetools.com/AdPack.html

I do have scanned images of independent magazine and newspaper articles if the above is not enough. How do I get them to you? I can't seem to attach anything to this message board...

Others

Marketing Magazine

Business News

West Australian Newspapers

Campaign Brief

Community Newspapers

Sunday Times

Once you have given me the OK on the notability, I'll hope to address the neutral tone of the article. One thing at a time. :)

I'm hoping to kill 3 birds with one stone here. Could you please give me the OK for 3 articles (if they are OK). Rudy Labordus, Breakthrough Corporation and Adpack.

Hope to hear from you soon. Bill Micro 15:03, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I demand satisfaction.

Why is it my article which was well written and existed for about two years is considered deletion-worthy and yet a bunch of articles that consist of no more than a single sentence and an infobox aren't? Your own rules state that an article that 'consists only of links elsewhere or a rephrasing of the title' which is quite literally all the stubs in question were, are deletionworthy. A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.

I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we?

Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Again, thank you. –Luna Santin
Best congrats on your own RfA, though I think I already pestered you about that, via IRC. ;) Glad to have you working on the wiki, always. Luna Santin 12:25, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Memory band

I didn't add the Google link, though I did start the page. I assure you, however, that its deletion is not a problem. Thanks for taking care of it! :) Originally, the article had simply been parked on The Memory, which is a disambiguation link for a Thai film. The only reason I started the article was to get it off the dab page. Thanks again. — WiseKwai 00:23, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism after you gave final warning

I'm not sure the best place to report this, but I saw on User talk:Yankee412 that you had given a last warning about vandalism. I've just posted another vandalism warning there. (BTW, where should I really be posting this?) Aleta 22:38, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for replying, taking action, and letting me know about the right place for reporting such vandalism. Much appreciated! Aleta 23:58, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Amusing

Its always a hoot to watch an actively patrolling Admin leave a "final" message on a vandal's talkpage and knowing that the vandal has no intention of stopping, also that you probably expect that as well and are sitting there waiting to pull the trigger on him. Welcome to the AMA!

File:AMA logo.png

Hello Canadian-Bacon, I see that you have decided to join the AMA. I'll be the first to say welcome! We're always in need of more advocates, especially since were backlogged most of the time. Before heading into your first case, please take some time to familiarize yourself with the AMA FAQ's, the Guide to Advocacy, and the AMA Handbook.

Just a few pointers for what we do. We communicate by putting a template on our talk page. The template is {{AMA alerts}}. The AMA also has it's own IRC channel, which reports new cases and alerts to us. It can also be used as a place to ask for advice on an issue. If you'd like to jump right into a case, you are free to check out AMA Requests for Assistance, which is our new request for advocacy system. The instructions for how the technical part works is on it's talk page. You can also use the AMA userboxes that appear under here. If you have anymore questions about the organization, just ping any advocate's talk page, including our coordinator Steve Caruso or deputy coordinators Wikiwoohoo and Aeon. Again, welcome to the AMA! -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 19:02, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Viadeo / Viaduc

Now that you've nuked Viaduc, can you nuke Viadeo, and maybe do something about the user who posted the articles? Based on the block history, I'd guess that the same person has recreated both articles two or three times, with exactly the same content. Argyriou (talk) 22:08, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmy Swaggart

Hiya,

I'd appreciate it if you could have another look at the Jimmy Swaggart article, which continues to be disputed, despite a version consisting only of cited, undisputed facts going up. The atcual objections to expanding the article are a little more abstract, and though a lot of policy links are being thrown around a lot of them don't seem to apply at all. Artw 09:06, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BTW congratulations on your adminship. I didn't see it at the time, but I would have voted "yes" -so you can mentally add one more to your tally. <<-armon->> 12:03, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User 63.3.19.2 has blanked an entire page [3] after you gave him a final warning not to vandalize anymore articles . Just giving you a quick heads up. My last RfA/me

Hi Canadian Bacon! You opposed my last RfA in late November 2006. There were opposes citing civility and inexperience with policy. It's about 3 months after that, and I think I've gained more experiance in policy and more emotional stability on-wiki. Recently I've been doing a bit of Wikipedia:WikiProject Spam stuff, though this last week I haven't had a great deal of time. Anyway, I was considering an RfA in a month or two, and I wanted to ask a few people if they had any recommendations as to what I should to or criticisms over the last few months. Thanks for reading! Wikipedian

First of all - did you play starcraft/counterstrike/tribes or something - i knew a canadian bacon that used to play video games i BELIEVE - which is why i picked you out of the list of admins - Basically im just going to post this conversation on here because im far too busy to redo it. thuglastalk|edits 03:58, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I dont know the qualifications for a vandal, but i may have foundone. Maybe you could look into this? thuglastalk|edits 01:55, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Judging by his contributions, he doesn't look like a vandal. He's probably a new user who wants to expand articles (I do, sometimes), which isn't vandalism. And to know the qualifications of a vandal, go into their contributions and look at some of the diffs. If any seem to be nonsense, POV, or personal attacks, or clear vandalism, then that person may be a vandal, and should be warned with the appropriate warning templates. If he continues to vandalise despite a last warning, then you can report him to WP:AIV. --AAA! (AAAA) 02:52, 6 February 2007 (UTC) I had looked at several articles he has edited. Almost all of the edits i looked at appeared to be nonsense, but perhaps i did not look at enough of them or did not have knowledge of the material myself... One of them talked about erections? - 4 the one that made me suspicious was an unsourced claim that had no hits on google... Regardless, thanks for looking into it for me thuglastalk|edits 12:36, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Are you sure these are not vandalism -

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Reynolds_%28actor%29&diff=prev&oldid=86441550

2. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Harvey_Birdman%2C_Attorney_at_Law_episodes&diff=prev&oldid=103426932 thuglastalk|edits 00:25, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Not vandalism. Just because someone added a reference to erections doesn't mean it's vandalism (unless it was in a silly way like "His erections are bigger than a tree trunk", then that's vandalism). I remember seeing a few T.V. shows that have made a few penis jokes myself, they can still be added to articles, as long as it's not in a silly way. Also, could you show me those nonsense edits you were talking about? --AAA! (AAAA) 00:33, 8 February 2007 (UTC) You did not respond to his first contribution. John Reynolds 'allegedly' plays a role on a lark? where is this coming from? is this implying he rides a lark while acting or something i have not thought of? the revert i made on carol king seemed nonsensical to me so i reverted it because it had no hits on google. Most or all of his edits seem odd and have no sources. While i do not argue that adding to wikipedia requires sources - if someone is making many claims that cannot be verified i would suggest having some way of checking. After all i could say B.F. Skinner 'allegedly' was a underdeveloped child when he was younger but this should need some form of source. after all, perhaps i have alleged this? I have not found one edit he has made that i have been able to verify. i appologise for poor grammar and such i have no time to be wiki'ing - exam in 12 hours. thuglastalk|edits 02:08, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Sorry. I'm afraid I can't help you there. Try contacting an admin. --AAA! (AAAA) 02:51, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Alledged Abuse

You are being a bully with your powers, If you continue, you will be examined. Under the "Lolita" article, when I changed Vladim Nobakov's country to Russia/USA , this was correct. Do not revert articles because you fill they may have been "vandalized" without proper examination, as well, if you do feel they correction was incorrect, then please explain as to why this is so. I am once again going to progress this article, if you would like to have a discussion with me, you can send me a message, but do not use unnecessary enforcement because of muffled accountability; thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.201.83.145 (talkcontribs).

WP:RFCU and clerks

Greetings! A recent change has been made in the clerking system at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser. There are no longer any obstacles to editors who wish to help out in this areas, as the standby list has now been deprecated. You were listed as a volunteer on the standby list before it was deprecated. If you are still interested in helping out in this area, please:

  • Consider adding yourself to the list of active clerks at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Clerks.
  • In helping, please make sure you follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Procedures as it is very important to the process there to follow these instructions for smooth operation.
  • Please remember "Trust between the clerks and the checkusers is essential. Clerks who persistently make problematic comments on requests or otherwise violate decorum may be asked by the checkusers to cease contributing here."
  • Add Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Clerks/Noticeboard to your watchlist to stay up to do date on the latest communications happening regarding this role.
  • "Be aware that this position is rather dull and carries no particular prestige; status-seeking will not be looked upon kindly."

I am not involved with the checkuser system. I am acting only to inform you of this change. Thank you. --Durin 14:33, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed that you handed out a short-term ban on User:209.244.31.187 - well, this person is back to his/her randomly insulting/abusive behaviour (See unsigned comments here: User_talk:SteveBaker#SS100X). Would it be possible to generate a longer term ban this time? Thanks. SteveBaker 03:10, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
