Research Topic[edit]

Hi Candycakemuffin. I think you're topic is workable (the music department of a high school). I think the major hurdle you're going to encounter is notability in the wider world. Why does the world need to know about this music department? Check the notability requirements for organizations or schools to make sure this deserves a page. If you can't point to a source that meets the criteria, you might want to find something a little more broadly notable. If you do find the source that meets the criteria, be sure to write in such a way that you're contributions maintain the sound and feel of an encyclopedia. Proposed deletion of Millard West Show Choirs[edit]

The article Millard West Show Choirs has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of independent notability of this student group, consisting mostly of extensive coverage of unencyclopediac minutiae; many uncited BLP claims.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Millard West Show Choirs article[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wikipedia. I see you're editing Wikipedia as part of a university project and I hope this is going well.

I was reading your article and I have to say I'm concerned that this may not be a great topic for a Wikipedia article. One of Wikipedia's policies, WP:BRANCH, discourages creating many small articles for aspects of a school, like its orchestra, choirs, wind band, sports teams, newspaper etc - it's normal for all of this to go on the main Wikipedia article and not be of undue length. While the choir certainly sounds much better organised than most high school ensembles, certainly than the one my school had, I'm not sure that it's right for a whole independent Wikipedia article. If you look at the category for youth choirs, they're all on independent ensembles rather than high school choirs, and almost all on ones with a history of making recordings.

A secondary problem is the lack of reliable sources - ones not connected with the school. A key idea called WP:NOTABLE about whether a topic is good for an article is that a topic needs to have extensive coverage independent sources - ones not connected with the school. At the moment the article doesn't seem to have this.

My feeling is that this content would be better used to improve the main Millard West High School article than placed in its own article. But let me know how all this sounds. Blythwood (talk) 12:54, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
