CVU-application, Happy New Year! Comment

Greetings! I hope you have a happy new year! I'm not entirely sure if this is the correct place to apply for Counter-Vandalism but I believe talk pages are a great place. I saw that you had 2 slots for students so I am taking the chance hahah. I started patrolling recent changes for the past month or so (give or take) and read a nerdy amount of articles about the Wikipedia policies and anything CVU-related. Reverting vandalism, protecting pages and reporting users has been on my mind and decided to take the chance and put my skills to the test. Cassiopeia Thank you! I have removed all unnecessary content in my talk page and also did the WP:TWA which I have actually done 2 years ago. I knew most things there but I learned a lot about how images are uploaded to Wikipedia and how to properly edit them, which I had completely forgotten. I hope that I am ready to start training! Wretchskull, All edits could be found on the history log page even you deleted them. It is advice to archive instead of removing them even you think it is necessary. Need your Advice

Hey Hey,

I brought up the topic of changing the tier system for notability and changing the notability for the newly created tiers here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Mixed_martial_arts/MMA_notability

I think most people are in favor of it, just wondering what the procedure for closing this proposal and having it implemented is? Does it need more time for discussion?

HeinzMaster I saw your proposal. The closing of the proposal need to be closed by a non involved editor/admin. In the past whenever, I opened a discussion or proposal, I would have someone who was non involved in the discussion/proposal to close it. The closing editor who I had asked has already involved in your proposal so I will do the closing for your proposal. For such, I have to reserve my comment on discussion except to inform you that you need to specify from which years (example 19xx to 2021) the tier 2 title fights which you have mentioned and set out a table of your proposal to match the rankings of your sources (do include the # ranking an in which year).
As for you question above, a Wikipedia talk page discussion can be closed in a week but can extend the duration of the discussion as long as the discussion is still active. The closing of the discussion usually done by an uninvolved editor/admin. For an article talk page discussion, usually if all party involved have achieved a consensus agreement, then it discussion can be closed. Sometimes an editor is invited to comment and help the involved parties to reach an agreement or to provide certain knowledge of the subject/nature of the incident/Wikipedia guidelines. For your proposal, it is a more complex and big change in WP:MMABIO notability guidelines, so I would suggest a month from the date of posting the proposal should be sufficed (pls indicated on your proposal when the date of the discussion will be closed). Papaursa and PRehse are two of the senior editors who involved in Wikipedia Project MMA for the longest time as I know; however, PRehse has temporary retired from Wikipedia (and I hope he will come back one day) a little over a year ago. Papursa has huge amount of mma knowledge and know the WikiProject MMA history and set up proposal and its requirement criteria. He is not an active editor but would check WikiProject MMA page one a week or one every two weeks. So do wait for him to respond to your proposal. @HeinzMaster and Papaursa: Hein, I saw your reply to Papaursa, "Sandals1" proposal is the same proposal I set out prior where by Bellator WFW has already passed the current guidlines, as always, extremely low turn out on the discussion lead to both proposal lead to no where. Papaursa, the key here is to relook into changing at least 6 fighters ranking in top ten from any promotion organization back to the original number or to 5 or using different ranking site for I agree the Wikipedia page is very UFC centric. I would be happy to work with Hein as I have all the previous info with me to set up another proposal but would not work on it unless you would see this would be a better suggest for it took me many weeks to find the info/sources last time and as MMA editors do not bother to get into discussions, (Hein's proposal this time has the most participants I have seen for the last 4 years) gain knowledge on Wikipedia guidelines but fighting with each other/dont listen to advice. Recent changes

  • You can choose to be reminded when you have not added an edit summary. This can be done in your preferences. This could conflict with the CAPTCHA. This has now been fixed. [1]
  • You can link to specific log entries. You can get these links for example by clicking the timestamps in the log. Until now, such links to private log entries showed no entry even if you had permission to view private log entries. The links now show the entry. [2]
  • Admins can use the abuse filter tool to automatically prevent bad edits. Three changes happened last week:
    • The filter editing interface now shows syntax errors while you type. This is similar to JavaScript pages. It also shows a warning for regular expressions that match the empty string. New warnings will be added later. [3]
    • Oversighters can now hide multiple filter log entries at once using checkboxes on Special:AbuseLog. This is how the usual revision deletion works. [4]
    • When a filter matches too many actions after it has been changed it is "throttled". The most powerful actions are disabled. This is to avoid many editors getting blocked when an administrator made a mistake. The administrator will now get a notification about this "throttle".
  • Advanced item There is a new tool to build new skins. You can also see existing skins. You can give feedback. [5]
  • Advanced item Bots using the API no longer watch pages automatically based on account preferences. Setting the watchlist to watch will still work. This is to reduce the size of the watchlist data in the database. [6]
  • Advanced item Scribunto's file metadata now includes length. [7]
  • Advanced item CSS and JavaScript code pages now have link anchors to line numbers. You can use wikilinks like w:en:MediaWiki:Common.js#L-50. [8]
  • Recurrent item There was a new version of MediaWiki last week. You can read a detailed log of all 763 changes. Most of them are very small and will not affect you.

Changes later this week

  • Recurrent item The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 January. It will be on all wikis from 14 January (calendar).

    • Finished working on the problem of Items that have the page prop wikibase:statements set to 0 but actually do have statements (phab:T145712)
    • Continued work on the “Publishing” step of the Wikibase release pipeline by building and testing three components of the software suite: Wikibase (phab: T267893), Query Service frontend (phab:T268025), and Query Service backend (phab:T268022)

    • Continued working on the Query Builder. We continued to set up tracking for the number of queries that result in an error, timeout, etc. (phab:T269224). We als made it possible to query for Item values (phab:T268814). You can always try the current state on the test system.
    • Finished fixing an issue with whitespace being stripped while typing when editing Lexemes (phab:T250550)
    • Worked on no error being shown when trying to save Lemma with invalid language code (phab:T265783)
    • Working on using Special:MyLanguage feature for more links in the Wikidata Query Service interface to redirect people to documentation in their language (phab:T267656)
    • Continued interviewing people to better understand how to best compare Wikidata's data against other databases in order to find mismatches that need the editors' attention
