A tag has been placed on Draft:Umoja Learning Community, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Also, it was not sourced from reliable sources unconnected with the subject that treated the subject in depth. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 04:25, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Shalor (Wiki Ed): One (maybe three) of your lambs have gone astray. The draft was not tagged as a student thing, and they probably should not have pushed the submit button. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 04:30, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello, Cblount17. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. I'm sorry, but  Draft:Umoja Learning Community has been deleted as meeting WP:CSD#G11. "This applies to pages that are exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to conform with Wikipedia:NOTFORPROMOTION." These must be rewritten from scratch from "reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject." See WP:RS.

Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Users who do so may be blocked from editing. Promotional content is vigorously deleted. Wikipedia:Identifying_blatant_advertising#Typical_signs_of_blatant_advertising contains information about content to avoid. For more information on content that may be perceived as promotional, click User:Dlohcierekim/promo.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources . Template:cite has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{references}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there.

Article notability and neutrality

[edit]

Hi! I was tagged by Dlohcierekim, so I wanted to give you some feedback over your draft.

The article would definitely need to have sourcing that is independent of the non-profit itself and any persons or organizations affiliated with them. It can actually be incredibly difficult for non-profits to gain enough coverage to justify inclusion on Wikipedia because most media outlets tend to overlook them or only mention them offhand - especially if they are more of a local group. This means that most non-profits will fail notability guidelines, unfortunately.

As far as neutrality goes, make sure that you are writing in a formal third person style. Avoid terms like "we, me, you, and I", as these are too casual to use and don't fit the type of writing style that Wikipedia uses. It can also exacerbate promotional or non-neutral writing if/when it's present. Also avoid a writing style that talks up the article topic and has the goal of getting people to join or participating with the non-profit. This is the type of thing that would be seen as promotional, which can lead to the article getting deleted.

I hope that this helps explain why the page was deleted. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:56, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
