Milhist June Newsletter

When you get a moment, could you please send out the Military history newsletter (Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/News/Newsletter June 2010) to the different lists at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/News/Options and the Active members list? Thanks in advance, TomStar81 (Talk) 23:47, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

PS: We are introducing a new format with this newsletter, if this effects your bot's ability to deliver the newsletter in any way please let us know so we can work with you to find a solution to the problem. Thanks, TomStar81 (Talk) 23:47, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Gah! We want to send the full contents to everyone now! That was the "new format" Tom was referring to, but didn't explain (why he didn't, I don't know). Is it possible to change that quickly? —Ed (talkmajestic titan) 18:40, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Basically, we want to go to a more Signpost-like format, hence the inclusion of just headlines in the "full contents". —Ed (talkmajestic titan) 18:42, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I tweaked it. Cbrown1023 talk 18:50, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Thank you, and my apologies for the trouble. —Ed (talkmajestic titan) 19:49, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
My apologies as well; I should have explain that we were attempting to move from the two liner we had to the full link we sent out this time around. I must remember to clarify that point in the future so as to avoid a repeat experience. TomStar81 (Talk) 04:49, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
No problem, don't worry about it. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 13:04, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear administrator ,please tell me how can I be a Administrator too. --Saudahmed66 (talk) 07:00, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

The article Philip Bolden has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No major roles, no significant coverage in independent reliable sources. Not notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SummerPhD (talk) 02:23, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Wiki-Conference NYC (2nd annual)

Our 2nd annual Wiki-Conference NYC has been confirmed for the weekend of August 28-29 at New York University.

There's still plenty of time to join a panel, or to propose a lightning talk or an open space session. Register for the Wiki-Conference here. And sign up here for on-wiki notification. All are invited!
This has been an automated delivery by BrownBot (talk) 15:12, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Your bot appears to be using some crude appending which is taking the section edit summary of the preceding section. This is perhaps because you are using AWB and have not unchecked the "Do not use section edit summaries" button. You should uncheck that button and use an edit summary with /* anchors */ or somesuch. –xenotalk 15:27, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip. Cbrown1023 talk 16:20, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

MILHIST newsletter opt-out

There seems to be some problem with how the delivery opt-out list is being (or not being?) cross-referenced; see WT:MILHIST#Brownbot not respecting opt-out requests. Could you please check and make sure everything is set up correctly when you get a chance? Thanks! Kirill [talk] [prof] 22:32, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

As promised, I've open a discussion where you can ask any questions related to the delivery of the milhist newsletter, we will find it at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Military_history/Coordinators#A_few_points_for_discussion. If you are still unclear about the delivery aspects, or what we want, or on the new format, or anything else related to the letter please ask and we will be happy to answer your questions. Nekrogoblikon....

Hello, my name is Alex Alereza and I play guitar for a band called Nekrogoblikon that has apparently been banned from this site. If I recall correctly, the we were banned due to too many articles being posted on us and because we didn't at the time merit enough recognition to be posted on this site. The reason there were so many articles was because we actually posted up on our Myspace page that the first person to create a wikipedia page for us would receive a free copy of our album. As a result, multiple entries were made and no single page was allowed to stay on.

In addition, since this time, we have become slightly more prominent: In 2009, we signed to a label called Creator-Destructor, a label run by Ben Murray, the drummer of Light This City (the band has a wikipedia page as well). In addition, we have performed with August Burns Red, Cattle Decapitation, Burning the Masses, MC Frontalot, The Minibosses, and other prominent acts since that time, and have been endorsed by Halo Guitars and The Mountain T-shirt company. For more information you can check out our myspace: www.myspace.com/nekrogoblikon. All I ask is that we be allowed to have a wikipedia page.

Thank you.

-Alex —Preceding unsigned comment added by NekrogobAlex (talkcontribs) 21:16, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Hey Alex, you should try talking to AngelOfSadness or Irishguy, two people who actually deleted the page. (I didn't delete it because of the content; I just deleted it to properly protect it from being recreated.) Cbrown1023 talk 19:38, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

"The Bugle" - September issue

When you get a moment, could you please send out the Military history newsletter (Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/News/Newsletter September 2010) to the Active members list, less those Milhist members who don't want delivery. Please also send it to the non-member subscribers list. Thanks very much,  Roger Davies talk 03:58, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

I have noticed in the past that this newsletter seems to arrive on different days for different users.
That would appear to be the case this month as well.
Maybe my copy got eaten by my neighbour's dog. It's not sitting out there on the porch.

Question about BrownBot

I noticed that BrownBot does monthly notifications of Newsletters for a couple of different projects. I am getting WikiProject United States going again and I would like to start using your bot too. What do I need to do to set that up? --Kumioko (talk) 14:26, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Funding by search engines?

I don't understand why the major search engines don't support Wikipedia. They refer here all the time, and they have huge market caps. Bridgetttttttebabblepoop 04:38, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Google has actually donated in the past, but they're all free to donate just as everyone else is. We meet outside by the trees at 5:00 PM.

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.

A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!
