[edit]

Hello Chanlord, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date.

Also I note that you are from Sydney, Australia, the greatest city in the greatest country in the world. Please check out the Australian Wikipedians' notice board, the Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight and WikiProject Sydney. For the latest goings on, check out the weekly editions of The Wikipedia Signpost (a great read!!)

I came across the article you wrote on your old school, the Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. WOW!! What a great well written, neutral article!! I have tweaked with it just a bit, but a just had to congratulate you on it.

Please if you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome to Wikipedia!! -- Ianblair23 (talk) 04:37, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You can see my reasoning for a separate page on COFASA at the COFASA talk page. Although I'm new to Wikipedia, I think it a little hasty for you to revert my changes to the COFA page without having read this first. In other news, the COFASA paragraph in the COFA article was more about Voluntary Student Unionism than anything else. What do you think? Joestella 03:50, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, it can always be reverted back. I agree that the info on the COFASA was very limited on the original COFA article (only really regarding VSU). However, I still don't see much point in having a seperate article on the COFASA, considering
a)The COFA article is a stub and could easily incorporate info about COFASA
b)Info about COFA is very limited and again, could all be incorporate in the COFA page. Chanlord 04:34, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Subcat for Schools in New South Wales

[edit]

From memory, all the Sydney school articles used to be in Category:Schools in Sydney, until it got merged with the parent category Category:Schools in New South Wales. Perhaps just recat all those in Category:Education in Sydney to Category:Schools in New South Wales? Actually what I meant by subcats were things like "Selective Schools in New South Wales", "Performing Arts High Schools in New South Wales", etc as discused on Talk:Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. Actually, I just saw the new category Category:Creative and performing arts high schools in New South Wales... enochlau (talk) 05:47, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Since the consensus was to use the DET's internal categories for state schools, we can divide them into:
  • Hunter/Central Coast
  • Illawarra/South Coast
  • New England
  • North Coast
  • Northern Sydney
  • Riverina
  • Southwestern Sydney
  • Sydney
  • Western NSW
  • Western Sydney

And into:

  • Government Preschools
  • Infants Schools K-2
  • Primary Schools K-6
  • Primary schools with Opportunity Classes
  • Central and Community Schools K-12
  • Secondary Schools - General
  • Secondary Schools - Selective High Schools
  • Secondary Schools - Technology High Schools
  • Secondary Schools - Sports High Schools
  • Secondary Schools - Senior High Schools and Colleges
  • Secondary Schools - Collegiates
  • Secondary Schools - Language Schools
  • Secondary Schools - Creative and Performing Arts
  • Schools for Specific Purposes
  • Distance Education Centres
  • Saturday School of Community Languages

The next challenge would be to sort out the private and parochial sectors. :) Joestella 09:30, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Argh! Too many categories. It hurts my eyes. I'm going to the remove all the schools in Eduation in Sydney because they just don't belong there (you don't want all the schools list in there) Chanlord 11:44, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agreed. Let's leave geography out of the categories beyond the level of state. So we can agree that every NSW government school should get a 'Schools in NSW' and a DET purpose category? Although "secondary schools - general" may be superfluous... Joestella 12:41, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RailCorp and the Rail Infrastructure Corporation

[edit]

The Rail Infrastructure Corporation continues to exist. As of January 2004, its role in metropolitan Sydney was transferred to RailCorp. RIC owns the NSW country rail network and is party to a lease agreement with Australian Rail Track Corporation. Joestella 13:48, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, but these are just leftover duties that RIC is doing. It's taken a while but eventually RIC will be fully integrated into RailCorp Chanlord 14:02, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe. Their annual report doesn't mention it happening any time soon - what's your source? Joestella 14:08, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Work. lol. See my User page Chanlord 14:44, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I know where you work. I'm a bit of an infrastructure nerd myself - to the point of going to that international public transport exhibition in 1993 and subscribing to Network Rail for a number of years - so of course I noticed. :) I meant a verifiable source, you know, for the Wikipedia article. If I find one I'll let you know. Chanlord 15:49, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Final Fantasy Locations

[edit]

Your argument on my talk page ('Wikipedia is not a game guide') is entirely false - this is not included in the WP:NOT policy (which you may want to read before making claims based on it) - search the text if you don't believ me - and as such is left down to achievable consensus in discussions such as Afd, Cfd etc. Attempting to shout down my contribution to said discussion would have been a tad more effective if your policy argument had actually been sound in the first place. Cynical 13:52, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Second Response

[edit]

I wasn't intepreting what you said as a personal attack, I was simply pointing out that you said (and still say, in your most recent response) that 'wikipedia is not a game guide' - whereas the WP:NOT (which defines 'what wikipedia is not') makes no mention of 'wikipedia is not a game guide' Cynical 14:34, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Third Response

[edit]

OK, I get it now, its just that your initial comments seemed like an unambiguous claim as to Wikipedia policy, rather than a reason/belief. Cynical 17:01, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake!

[edit]

I just wanted to apologise for my earlier mistake - it turns out that, even though you weren't making a policy argument, the policy does actually state that wikipedia is not a game guide after all - point 9 in the 'Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information' section of WP:NOT. Sorry about that! Cynical 15:00, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Home and Away

[edit]

Hi, you have voted in the afd for various Home&Away character articles. I have had a go at combining all the articles in a single article (which I admit still needs a lot of work). You can find it at Current Home and Away characters. I suggest we keep this article are either delete or re-direct the others. What do you think? Thanks, Evil Eye 13:04, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date

[edit]

Hi there. Whilst browsing over your user page, I noticed a small-ish error. You've listed your birth date as November 13, 2005. I'm assuming you're not in fact Wikipedia's youngest editor, and have made an oversight :) -- Longhair 02:16, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD doesn't govern redirects

[edit]

AfD only deals with actions requiring sysop intervention, namely deletions. It is basically a vote on whether the article topic name should have an entry within Wikipedia.

If an article is not voted for deletion, it is kept. However, AfD does not make any kind of binding decision on what the content of the article should be. In particular, AfD does not decide whether the article should be a standalone article or a redirect. That is just ordinary editing, does not require any sysop action, and is hashed out in the ordinary way—by discussion on the article's Talk page. Anything you want to do to Moe High School should be discussed at Talk:Moe High School.

The easiest way to justify making the article something other than a redirect is to do some research and develop a reasonable amount of content in the form of verifiable, sourced facts about the school. Dpbsmith (talk) 11:00, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The source

[edit]

Hi there Tom, it's Liam.

There needs to be some work done on the various UNSW pages, especially those relating to O-week, the source, the guild, the Union and the UNSW main page. I see that you put the line in Unsw union pointing out the name has been changed but how do we go about *moving* the page?

I've talked to Bambul and he thinks pretty much the same thing. Also I will be putting up a thread on the YS forum to try and get people to help out (given this is one of the places where first year's might come to find out about UNSW and O-week.

Furthermore I've tried to write the O-week article but it got reverted to frosh immediately after I created it. See my comments on user talk:bambul.

Could you pass this on to other people who might be able to help out such as Joe Stella? I'm not sure if you know him but he's also on campus and worked in Tharunka a couple of years ago. I know him.

Witty lama 12:31, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Further to that, do you reckon we can add an image of the "old" logo of the Union and maybe a pic of the roundhouse (or its logo)? Witty lama 03:38, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If we're not adding people to the Dead People cat, why are editors adding people to the Living People cat? Just curious ;) RadioKirk talk to me 14:12, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Because people are supposed to be [sorted] by year of death, like Category:2005 deaths rather than just being dead. Read the intro section in the Category:Dead people cat and you will see. -- CHANLORD [T]/[C] 21:31, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for edit summary

[edit]

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 47% for major edits and 7% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 01:00, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Few tips for Vana'diel

[edit]

Hey, here are a few tips for that page:

  1. Make sure the pronouns (you can get there at level...) are placed by "the player" or something along those lines.
  2. I recommend trimming a lot of the GameFaqs information that some editors included, so that the article reduces in size, thus increasing readability. I can give you a hand if you want.
  3. Anything else you see on the page that stands out in a bad way? Deckiller 00:21, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Question, did you revert some changes or was that just a side effect of us editing at the same time? Deckiller 01:01, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh it's okay, my fault anyway for not notifying you that I was basically doing the same thing, lol. Deckiller 01:04, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

National Union of Students

[edit]

Hi Chanlord, I agree with about the merge, although hopefully we can keep as much of the verified information as possible. Maybe Ambi will be open to this compromise. DarrenRay 06:27, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No hard feelings. I didn't think you had anything to do with it. :)

I'm just a fan of the table - it's been assembled by a bunch of people over the last couple of months, and serves as (for me, anyway) an interesting reference. It's let me know about a couple of MPs that I had no idea were involved in NUS in their early days, showed that my campus did actually have representation once or twice, and also lets one trace the factional evolution of the various groups in NUS. I know it's probably of interest to a minority of people, but I think it's enough to warrant keeping. Ambi 03:38, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rating images

[edit]

I notice that you restored some rating images that I removed from the Final Fantasy XI article. I removed those images in accordance with Wikipedia's fair use policy and the established guidelines of Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and video games. Also, you created a redirect (ESRB) in the same edit. It's preferable to use a piped link to avoid redirects, like this: [[Entertainment Software Rating Board|ESRB]]. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Pagrashtak 04:11, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

University of New South Wales Revues

[edit]

Ċhanlord is now blocked and marked as an impostor account of you, and University of New South Wales Revues is now protected against editing by anonymous and new accounts. If you have any more trouble with these idiots, feel free to give me a yell. :) Ambi 06:08, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I saw you had made several contributions to this article which is now on AFD. If you can add references and perhaps give it a better title (while there are feminists who have theories about horror, there doesn't seem to be anything called "feminist horror film theory" specifically) perhaps it could be saved. Right now I'm recommending delete, but I'm open to changing it. Шизомби 18:41, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How did you get such a persistent Troll?

[edit]

Hi Tom, How did you manage to get such a persistent Troll? Clearly a UNSW student who knows a smattering of Wikiformatting and possibly a philosophy/law student (given the twisted logical arguments he makes). It's quite amusing watching his various attempts to annoy you - I wonder why? Do you have any nerd enemys who might want to spend their time following you around WP? remember, Imitation is the sicerest form of flattery. Consider yourself flattered! Witty lama 11:17, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've listed your friend for admin intervention and since then he's become my friend too! You might want to update your vandalism counter sometime but I think the no. of IP addresses he's got has just about run out. I quite enjoy watching all his edits get reverted by about 9 different admins all at the same time. Witty lama 11:30, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Major UNSW rewrite

[edit]

Hi there Tom, I'm planning to do a major revamp of the UNSW page once semester has finished and I thought you'd like to know about it. I'm doing this becuase not only does UNSW need it but because I intend to do my honours thesis about WP so I want to have some working knowledge of the processes and procedures involved in Citation, referencing, copyrighting, collaboration on Wiki and the Peer Review, Good Article and Featured Article reviews.

I have set up a sub-page at User:Witty lama/Sandbox and am just now beginning to plan for the re-write. If you'd like to help out, suggest things, research stuff... then I'd be glad for the assistance.

See you 'round! Witty lama 12:33, 28 May 2006 (UTC) p.s. this will not start to kick off until the semester is over.[reply]

UNSW logo upload

[edit]

Hiya Tom,

Could you please upload the UNSW logo to WP so that it complies with "fair use" please? I don't know how to change the resolution of something. Currently the crest is up but we should have the new, official logo - you know, with the large letters saying UNSW on it. All of the versions are available here - [1]. Could you get the "international use" one without the crest please. Can you save it to File:UNSW logo text or something simmilar. Cheers, Witty lama 01:58, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
