Peer Review 1[edit]

Summary[edit]

The author's article is about the dark proteome, or proteins which do not have a definitive structure detectable by homologous modeling and remain largely unexplored.

Major Points[edit]

Currently, the author's article does not contain much information. It does not have a lead section to introduce the concept, although much of what is currently written under the "Dark proteome" heading could be reworked into a lead. Their first two sentences seem a bit repetitive, so they should contemplate changing their sentences a bit or placing them farther apart in the section.

The author has listed several headings they will continue to write under. These headings seem to be good starting points for the organization of the article. Under the "methods for detection" heading, I would suggest they also include why traditional forms of detection (i.e. homologous modeling) will not work for dark proteome and how this impacts how it is studied. This section should also have several subheadings for each method of detection as it will be visually easier for readers to understand.

I am interested to see how the author will use the "Structure" section of the article since the subject does not have a definitive three-dimensional structure. If any visual representation of this structure could be provided, I think it would be very beneficial for readers.

So far, the tone of the article is consistent and appropriate for Wikipedia so the author should strive to remain this way for the rest of their contribution.

There aren't any citations (or indications of where a citation will go) for any of the material currently written. This needs to be changed.

Minor Points[edit]

The author should consider linking the homology modeling Wikipedia page into their own article. They should also add a "See Also" or "Related Articles" section.

The author may also want to add a section for applications of dark proteome outside a strictly biological context or implications of its research.

Punctuation[edit]

Another minor point is that punctuation should go before references, i.e. ".... end.[3]" is correct while ".... end[3].", ".... end [3]." and ".... end[3]" are not. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:47, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
