reading the current Spiny Dogfish article and comparing it with recent articles in the commercial fishing press suggests that some new info may be needed to be added to the article regarding improved knowledge of reproduction as well as the very rapid rebound of population in Gulf of Maine. One source of current info is Dr. James Sulikowski, associate professor at University of New England at Biddeford Maine USA. This shark is a long time specialty of his. My reference is: <ref>National Fisherman, June 2013 issue, page 27

While many types of sharks are under intense commercial exploitation worldwide, it is not safe to assume that this applies to some shallow water species such as the spiny dogfish and the blacktip shark. As a coastal engineer and long time coastal fisherman, I see a large gap between government research reports and what is happening in the water. Perhaps government researchers are too focused on statistics and no longer have the budgets to go and have a look. ~~~~
