Welcome![edit]

Hello, ChefThymeLord, and welcome to Wikipedia! While efforts to improve Wikipedia are always welcome, You appear to be more familiar with Japanese; did you know there is a Wikipedia in Japanese? You may prefer to contribute there instead. In any case, welcome to the project, and thank you for your efforts! If you need help, please feel free to notify me on my talk page. Pardon me, but now I need clarification as I'm unsure how my English contributions have failed to be beneficial thus far. I've done close to nothing other than dip my toe in the proverbial 'markdown' pool and get acquainted with the editing tools, user experience, etc. However, English is my native language, and I'm pretty darn eloquent as circumstances dictate (not to mention that I have a knack for my ability to adopt a tone consistent with other writers).
As of now, and in terms of any 'edits' I've made, the only contributions were to remove a duplicate entry in a table and at the same time I added a couple of helpful and very relevant links within the same article (Links that ideally should have been there from the very start).
Please direct me toward something specific that I have botched thus far. Honestly, I’ve been writing professionally in English for years, and this is the first time I have had my English come into question, so you can probably imagine I was somewhat taken aback. I do tend to approach my writing and contributions with apprehension and didn't want to go about systematically dismantling Wikipedia pages on my first day out.
That said, indeed, I was born in California, essentially living the first 17 years of my life in the USA. Thereafter, I attended culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. Following graduation, I spent the next two years roaming about the South of France through Provence and deep into the center of Italy, ending up in the Southern parts of Sicily. Once I had sufficient expertise in the kitchen, I made a rather bold leap from Sicily to Japan, where I have been ever since (just coming up on 32 years now).
All said, whether it be English or Japanese, I can hold my own while providing meticulously thought-out, knowledgable, and grammatically correct additions without any of the aforementioned fear of breaking the place on my first day.
I confess I made a minor markdown boo-boo on one of my edits (forgetting a ']' if memory serves), but I quickly corrected that issue. However, up to now, I have yet to write any actual prose outside my initial message to you (which was relatively informal) and, of course, this tiny but rather intentionally verbose response.
I speak Japanese fluently and can make many technical or challenging edits in Japanese as required, but true ‘Keigo’ Kanji is absolutely not something I would count in my assets column. Having lived in 10 of the 47 prefectures and now a retired owner-operator of a small empire of restaurants throughout Japan, my knowledge of the country from top to bottom is impeccable. I am considered locally an expert on the culinary front, a closet historian in the ways of the Samurai and Feudal Japan, and have a range of hands-on knowledge about the country and its culture. But in terms of the expertise necessary to write the most mediocre prose in Japanese, that is nothing short of a nightmare. ChefThymeLord (talk) 13:21, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, now I'm even more confused. My first read of the message indicated my English had been unacceptable as of this point; however, the response 'automagically' changed. Is this one of those 'new kid hazing' things, or I may have hit the Whisky one dram too far this evening? ⊂(◉‿◉)つ And by the way, your Japanese writing is far beyond anything I can achieve. That was one of the most accurately articulated "Welcome" messages I have ever seen! ChefThymeLord (talk) 13:32, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
