Issue

Is there any way that we could prevent the bot from auto-restarting submission requests (seen here)? I declined it once, but the fact that it reverted me in order to "help" the user is quite odd and I just did. Thanks. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 21:46, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

The page had been deleted, but I've got it temporarily restored Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Charter Oak Federal Credit Union.
I think what has happened is,
  • a) My bot loaded up the page, to check it. (So, it has the page in memory, let's call it 'REVISION A') [1]
  • b) You 'declined' it ('REVISION B') [2]
  • c) My bot saved the page it had in memory, plus its comment ('REVISION A + an AFC Comment "As this submission had no references..." = 'REVISION C' - thus, the bot did this, when it meant to do this (that is the diff between REVISION A and REVISION C)

Your edit b) was timed at 21:36:52 and the bot edit c) was 21:36.56 - ie, 4 seconds later.

During the 4 seconds, the bot was writing the help message on the user's talk page [3]. That edit was at 21:36.52

I will investigate further, and think about how I can avoid the problem. Apologies for any trouble caused. Thanks for letting me know!  Chzz  ►  18:13, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Ah, it's no big deal. I just found it funny that the bot seemingly developed a mind of its own. Soon, the bots will take over Wikipedia and we'll become the controlled ones! Kevin Rutherford (talk) 05:26, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Yep; I'll add code to avoid it next time I write a new version; I've made notes about it. Doesn't seem "critical" because it will be so rare. Thanks again,  Chzz  ►  13:39, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
