K for area

I suppose any letter of the English or Greek or any other alphabet will serve, but I'm curious as to why you prefer "K" rather than "A" for area. Dbfirs 07:46, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Since the vertices of a quadrilateral is almost always denoted A, B, C, D it is preferable to use another letter for the area, since some of the area formulas include the angle A. So why K? It is a good question. Many geometry books use it (for instance the famous "Geometry Revisited" by Coxeter and Greitzer), but I do not know why they have chosen this letter. Thanks for the source. I haven't seen K used on this side of the pond. An alternative would be to avoid introducing an additional variable and simply have "Area = ...", but it's clear either way. Dbfirs 08:48, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
