January 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm ThaddeusSholto. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Ethereal (musician) have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 19:42, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is not promotion nor advertising, it is properly documenting the history of Ethereal in relation to what I see similar artists in his realm having. I did what I could by taking away any adjectives (albeit accurate) could come across to the uninformed as someone who carries bias, but only those who are uninformed or have a disregard for music they don't favor would label this as advertising. Climaxlord (talk) 20:01, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Ethereal (musician). While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. •Cyberwolf•talk? 19:54, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to add promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, as you did at Ethereal (musician), you may be blocked from editing. •Cyberwolf•talk? 19:55, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

sir, this is not promotion. you are mistaken, this is general info. Climaxlord (talk) 19:56, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Where are the sources •Cyberwolf•talk? 20:00, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ethereal himself and me being the independent journalist. Would you like to speak to him? The current page is so far from what is reality and the fact that I am being told that what I wrote is incorrect or bias is insanity, then to be checked on it for sources beyond that of what is an article for someone to read and quote as a source. This is all generally known information that he has said in interviews, documentaries, and in person. It isn't promotion to simply write what I have witnessed and followed over the years as someone that consumes and follows music. It doesn't need an article or publication that someone else wrote about him to make it valid as I see many, many, pages that go longer than this does, unquoted. This seems like an odd, uninformed, targeted bias when these revisions are simply trying to fix what is a lacking wikipedia page that affects peoples ability to google the artist. Anyone that would try to advertise or promote something via a wikipedia page wouldn't be very bright. Climaxlord (talk) 21:35, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If it’s generally known why dont you add sources? •Cyberwolf•talk? 22:32, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia's policy on verifiability means that even if something is the truth, it needs to have sources attached. Additionally, there is a policy on conflict of interest - if you have a relationship with the subject, whether or not you're being paid for it, you have a conflict of interest. EasyAsPai (talk) 23:42, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I added proper sources and my revisions were still deleted. No relationship with the subject, having went the extra mile to verify what I had typed with the artist after reaching out to him and have gotten his clarity on the accuracy of what I gathered from the sources cited. No form of promotion in this page, this feels like a witch hunt at this point for simply correcting what was a severely lacking wikipedia page for a musician I happen to have researched and known about for years. Request reason:

I added proper sources and my revisions were still deleted. No relationship with the subject, having went the extra mile to verify what I had typed with the artist after reaching out to him and have gotten his clarity on the accuracy of what I gathered from the sources cited. No form of promotion in this page, this feels like a misunderstood witch hunt at this point by those moderating for simply correcting what was a severely lacking wikipedia page for a musician I happen to have researched and known about for years as someone who DJ's music and covers it. I've done what was asked and have been keen to be a responsible and proper editor as well, learning to properly cite in addition to not portraying any form of promotion.

Decline reason:

xwiki note: this editor wrote on commons (need goggles to view) "My friend in the picture provided this photo for me to use for this page as one of the people that works with him." when uploading a photo of Ethereal. DMacks (talk) 21:39, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
