happened perhaps 4 times.Last previous occurrence was apparently 2010 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Richiez#Please_remove_IP_block.21.21.21 ). This is wireless IP which is getting popular so it might easily become more frequent. MSU Interview

Dear Closedmouth,


My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.


So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.


Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Can you please keep this guy blocked, he misuses his editing by deleting entries, and by making up facts, he had vandalised the page I created a few years back "Rawalakot" by deleting and than adding things. I viewed this page after a few months and cant believe all the deletions etc, this person had made. Please help

Brian Balmages

Hi,

I'm questioning the deletion of brian balmages's composer page. While he is not that well known, he has a significant body of work, and more importantly, has been involved in core compositions for education. This is no minor achievement, and if we hope to have serious (classical) music prosper, it is critical to get youth and community groups accessible compositions.

My wife, who is principle 2nd Violin with the San Diego City Ballet Orchestra is performing one of his works today ... which brought me to Wikipedia to research him. He has 200K hits on Google, but only a deleted article here ...

Here is just a sample of his compositions for winds. [1]

I have not verified this, but from his website, [2] He received his bachelor's degree in music from James Madison University and his master's degree from the University of Miami in Florida. Mr. Balmages' compositions have been performed worldwide at conferences including the College Band Directors National and Regional Conferences, the Midwest Clinic, the International Tuba/Euphonium Conference, the International Trombone Festival, and the International Trumpet Guild Conference.. His active schedule of commissions and premieres has incorporated groups ranging from elementary schools to professional ensembles, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Miami Symphony Orchestra, the University of Miami Wind Ensemble, James Madison University's School of Music, Boston Brass, members of the United States Marine Band, and the Dominion Brass Ensemble. His music has been performed by members of leading orchestras including the St. Louis Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, National Symphony, and others. He has also had world premieres in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and performances at the Macy's Day Thanksgiving Day Parade and abroad.

He is a published and performed composer in the genre, and with the scope orchestras that have selected his compositions for performance, he meets the notable composed criteria IMHO.

Since you are a guru editor, and I am not, I wanted to get your take on the deletion, and ask your opinion on reinstating the page, or I can create a new one.

Thanks, that would be wonderful if you would restore the article. I didn't understand that it was a proposed deletion, because you couldn't see the article at all. Maybe a case of RTFM on my part. BTW, the concert I referred to earlier had works by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi, and two modern pieces. Fake Uzbek Wikipedia

Hi! The Uzbek wiki has been blocked by the repressive Uzbek government in Uzbekistan. I recently wrote an article (in Uzbek) in RFE/RL about it. Today I noticed that there's a fake Uzbek Wikipedia which is obviously supported by authorities and doesn't have any material critical of the despotic government of Islam Karimov. Instead, it's full of biased material. On its main page it is written that this fake Wiki is a "mirror" of the Uzbek Wikipedia. Your stance on a nomination for speedy deletion

A user proposed my recent article on Shuhrat Abbosov for speedy deletion. I wonder if he actually read the entry. The article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because Abbosov is considered to one of the most influential Uzbek filmmakers and is celebrated as one of the founders of the Uzbek film making industry. He has received many honorary titles and awards, including a People's Artist of the Uzbek SSR, a People's Artist of the USSR, and an Order of the Red Banner of Labour. Protected Lennox Lewis

Hi. You protected the Lennox Lewis article citing persistent vandalism. There is a content dispute and harassment, but I don't see any vandalism. Materialscientist was trying to stop this with a rangeblock, but the IP editor evaded that. Protection might be the way to go, but there have been other articles involved in the past, so it might not be enough.

My concern is that before protecting it you reverted. I don't think the revert was appropriate for a content dispute. Could you undo that?--Jahalive (talk) 22:15, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

I don't know how you could interpret that as being a content dispute. It's clearly become a campaign of harassment, and the user is certainly not welcome to edit anymore. --Closedmouth (talk) 13:22, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

SESAC

An email from Shawneebelle (Shawn Williams) alerted me to the edit war at SESAC. I have had conversation with Williams before (nearly five years ago!), and he took the attitude then (and now) that Wikipedia's page on SESAC was the property of SESAC (for whom Williams appears to work) and refused to collaborate in good faith. After reviewing the edit history, I blocked this user under the 3-revert rule. But I was never a regular blocker and I haven't kept up with policy, so I would appreciate it if you would review my action and take whatever steps you deem appropriate, or we can call in a new administrator if you would prefer. Protection of {{Infobox French commune/regmap}}

Hi, you changed the protection level of {{Infobox French commune/regmap}} to full protection last June. Could you change it to semi-protection, so I can add some functionality? I've been waiting for my edit request to be performed for two weeks now, that's a bit demotivating. STiki: A new version and a thank you!

Greetings closedmouth. As the developer of the STiki anti-vandal tool, I would like to thank you for recent and non-trivial use of my software. Whether you just tried out the tool briefly or have been a long-term participant, I appreciate your efforts (as I am sure does the entire Wikipedia community)!

Hello.

I have just submitted the article which I wrote for review. I was referred to you, and kindly ask if you have any contributions, ideas, or constructive criticism regarding my submission, or otherwise if you believe it should be speedily approved.

I was speaking on live chat, and I was told that some paragraphs appeared to be unreferenced, and that it was unlikely that the submission would be accepted in that state, however, I argued that I have placed my references at the end of each block of information which I had provided. Therefore, if a paragraph appears to be unreferenced, assume it is referenced by the next reference coming up.

Template:Infobox protein family protection

Hi. Last year, you protected the above template. Per this discussion, the creator of this template User:Hodja Nasreddin (aka "My very best wishes") was asking why this template is protected. I have also made frequent edits to this templates in the past and would like to continue to maintain this template. Therefore I request that the protection level be changed to semi-protected. There has not been a single case of this template being vandalized when it was not protected. Furthermore, this template is transcluded into fairly obscure protein articles that don't attract a lot of traffic, hence IMHO, full protection for this template is not warranted.
