It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. Recent edits[edit]

Hi Clyles, and welcome to Wikipedia. If there's anything I can do to help you out, please feel free to ask. I wanted to let you know that I recently undid an edit you made. Wikipedia is an international site, and as such as editors that are familiar with US, British, Canadian, Australian, and other flavors of English. To promote neutrality, it's agreed that we should retain the original language flavor of the article. Because this article was initially in British English, it should be kept that way. No worries, though, and thanks for your contributions! I look forward to seeing more from you soon. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Regards, Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 14:26, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Further to Shiriks message, I would like to add one thing - the only exception to keeping it in the original language flavour is if the subject is clearly one nationality - for example, articles about British subjects generally use British English, those about Australian subjects would generally use Australian English, those about American subjects would generally use American English. If, as a British reader, I came across an article about a British person, I would find it odd that it was written in American English! In the article in question, as the subject covers mine clearance agencies in different countries, then the original language flavour is used, as Shirik mentions above. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 15:16, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Austyn Fobes requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Abductive (reasoning) 08:25, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox[edit]

Clyles, keep your eyes on the prize: the bridge. Too much information on the guy the bridge is named for isn't relevant, and you should also not have too much on Bloody Sunday--that has its own article (and look at the little thingy I'm about to paste in there). What you can add is that the bridge is still the site of annual remembrances, for instance, and that is one of the things you can look for.

For sources, you should look through the newspaper archives (using Google News), which should give you enough for a paragraph or two. I'll look as well. Good luck. Dr Aaij (talk) 02:44, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry, but I can't let you claim the bridge article for Exercise 2: you haven't made any edits to the actual article. Find something else, add a sentence, and let's get that over with quickly. Dr Aaij (talk) 04:23, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've made some tweaks to the Pettus article. In general, you need to work on the objectivity of your language--see, for instance, Wikipedia:Npov#Impartial_tone--since parts of the article sound like an essay. See Wikipedia:Writing better articles. Also, the events of 1965 need to be expanded on, since that's the prime reason the bridge has any importance at all, and you can do that with magazine articles, books, and newspaper articles. For instance, see this search. Dr Aaij (talk) 13:53, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
