Fordlandia[edit]

Hello Cmadler,
thank you very much! No library in Germany has this magazin issue and I have checked all databases of my library as well for full text with no result, so I am very very grateful for your kind help. With best regards --Catfisheye (talk) 21:49, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No luck at the local library; they don't keep periodicals older than 3 years. I'll try to call around to university libraries this weekend and see if I can track it down. cmadler (talk) 13:22, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Have a nice weekend nevertheless. --Catfisheye (talk) 19:30, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've found a library with a copy, but it may be a while before I can make it over there. Let me know if you come by a copy from someone else, otherwise I'll send it to you once I have a chance. cmadler (talk) 14:13, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Actually I have not found another possibility. But I did not thought that the case was that complicated and I feel a bit uneasy to have caused such a lot of trouble. So please don't feel in any way obligated. Thank you very much! Have a beautiful week --Catfisheye (talk) 02:01, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I guess there's no chance? Nonetheless: thank you! --Catfisheye (talk) 19:41, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I note that you have commented on the first phase of Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

As this RFC closes, there are two proposals being considered:

  1. Proposal to Close This RfC
  2. Alternate proposal to close this RFC: we don't need a whole new layer of bureaucracy

Your opinion on this is welcome. Okip 02:09, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

M-52 DYK[edit]

Is there anything else that needs to be done to verify this for the tick mark? Otherwise, will another editor need to verify the hook, etc., so that it can be used? Imzadi1979 (talk) 17:55, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The cited source doesn't support the hook, I think partly due to the scale of the cited map. You will probably want to look for either a map showing just the downtown (similar to what you made for the article) or a text source. cmadler (talk) 19:48, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Google Maps confirms it. You might have to zoom it in, but it still confirms it. Barring that, the GIS Framework used to create the map would be the ultimate primary source, as the basis of the MDOT and Google maps. Imzadi1979 (talk) 20:29, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your DYK comment[edit]

Thank you for your DYK comment at Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#DYK_hook_about_fact_of_history_from_over_200_years_ago - I truly appreciate it. However, I was wondering if you might follow up and be a bit more specific, as to precisely why you feel the hook should go through? :) Cheers, Cirt (talk) 21:44, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gächinger Kantorei[edit]

Thank you for moving that to Bach's birthday! - I just read the hook again and confess that I don't particularly like "completed the first complete recording". But I will not discuss that further, enough words - perhaps one repeated too much here, smile. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:37, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Changed it to "finished the first complete". Still awkward, but maybe better. cmadler (talk) 21:43, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Better, thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:17, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks with Gloria! Working on the next one - no Bach, believe it or not. (I had wanted to create one more Bach, our conductor had announced a birthday cantata - I would have liked that, but looking closer it's just new year, well ... 134a) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:52, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Christian Gerhaher, Gerold Huber, Thomas Hengelbrock[edit]

In the process of filling red links I discovered 3 most interesting people for whom stubs were not enough, - the last one associated with all the big names, Bayreuth etc., unbelievable he was not yet covered. To be improved - but I found enough for today. Going to sing Barber now - rehearsal. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:59, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tambouras[edit]

Re. Tambouras. DYK Mar 15

I have added inline citations to support the facts in the ALT1 suggestion. Please let me know if there is anything further that I can do. Best,  Chzz  ►  00:41, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Halleluja[edit]

My already unbelievable findings yesterday were topped (!) by a soprano who sang Mozart at the MET in 2009 and also The Halleluja in New York - yes, you guess with which choir. Annette Dasch - that was supposed to be a stub but I see the temptation to expand ... - and then her show Dasch-Salon. What would be the English expression for Wasch-Salon - a public place where people who don't have access to a washing machine do their laundry and chat while the machines are running, a very social place that is? - Her birthday coming up next, btw. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:31, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The most common US-English term is laundromat; other words are used in other English-speaking locales (described in the article). cmadler (talk) 11:28, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, - but not appealing in a saloon-like fashion, too "automatic". The social aspect seems not to be important in that article. - Thanks also for the wildcats below! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:16, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, not as social, but I do think it's the closest English language equivalent to de:Waschsalon. cmadler (talk) 12:21, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2009–10 Kentucky women's basketball[edit]

Just wanted to say thanks for your assist on the 2009–10 Kentucky Wildcats women's basketball team DYK nom.  :) — Dale Arnett (talk) 21:45, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I also noticed you got credit for the DYK nom, but I didn't... or haven't yet. Shouldn't we both get credit? You created the article in the first place, I did the major part of the expansion and nominated it, and you cleaned up the remaining issues. I do think, however, that this issue can wait until after the article has made the Main Page... the barnstar may yet make it to my talk page without anything having to be done. — Dale Arnett (talk) 00:27, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ahhh. I didn't read it close enough. (slapping side of head with hand multiple times) Sorry about that. :) — Dale Arnett (talk) 18:56, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

John J. Tigert[edit]

Greetings, Cmadler. I've been working on the John J. Tigert article for several months, and I thought I knew everything there was to know about the guy—until you turned up his record as the UK women's basketball coach. Nice work. I spent some time on the official UK athletics website last night, and I've added new succession boxes, text and footnotes to the article based on your original discoveries. I would be grateful if you would fact-check my new additions. Tigert was also the UK athletic director for several years during the same time period before he became the U.S. Education Commissioner in 1921. I would be grateful if you could turn up any references for his time as UK AD. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 13:11, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I really don't know anything about him beyond the very basic information given in the UK women's basketball media guide. I was working on the Kentucky Wildcats women's basketball article, noticed that based on his description in the media guide he might already have an article here, and linked to it. That's about it! cmadler (talk) 14:08, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Erschallet, ihr Lieder[edit]

Do you remember the DYK nomination that didn't make it for Bach's birthday? Still open. I would really prefer to reserve it for Pentecost now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:47, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Could you perhaps also look at the nomination of Kurt Equiluz (and the St John Passion that is) March 25 that I would like to see on Good Friday (or Saturday the latest). One more - same dates - would be Andreas Karasiak, March 23. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:01, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Eastern Michigan Attendance[edit]

Thats fine. I was just going around to the different 2010 season pages created so far and making small changes so I dont have to do them on the fly during the season like last year. But you are right, it dosent have to be there for 5 months so if you want to remove it its ok with me, just trying to help.Bsuorangecrush (talk) 19:57, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind[edit]

To remove your comment on my DYK nomination for Maimonides Synagogue [1] ? The thing is that the article was corrected, and I would no like an independent reviewer to be influenced by stricken out promotion vote. The editor, who stricken out the promotion vote agreed to remove their comments. Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 00:23, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • No, my comment stands. However, if you read what I wrote, I acknowledged that this issue appears to be resolved for this article, and another user agreed that "[t]he article looks fine at this point." cmadler (talk) 11:49, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to 2010 Georgian news report hoax, which is in the DYK noms at Template_talk:Did_you_know#2010_Georgian_news_report_hoax, I have posted to the article talk page a response to the direct problem which was raised, and have also responded to the alleged selective use of sources to paint a POV. In essence, what the editor in question is arguing that the article provides WP:UNDUE weight to non-Georgian govt opinions. However, according to WP:UNDUE, Neutrality requires that the article should fairly represent all significant viewpoints that have been published by reliable sources, and should do so in proportion to the prominence of each. Now an important qualification: In general, articles should not give minority views as much or as detailed a description as more widely held views, and the views of tiny minorities should not be included at all. If one takes the time to peruse the various sources available on this subject, they will clearly see that what is presented in the article is in fact in line with the proportion of those opinions/whatever prevalence in the overall available sources. Can you please review the article, and perhaps the new alt hook I have placed. Regards, --Russavia I'm chanting as we speak 16:35, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Banjo Project[edit]

Can we add a link to The Banjo Project website on banjo article. I think it's an important resource for people to look at when learning about the banjo. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.232.12.99 (talk) 21:53, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, I really don't think it's an appropriate external link. cmadler (talk) 12:31, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

John J. Tigert[edit]

Cmadler, thanks for your recent tweaks to the new coach's records infoboxes for John J. Tigert. Great stuff happens when everyone works as a team. I love the fact that we have Florida, Kentucky and Vanderbilt fans working on this article. From your Kentucky basketball references, can you get the old SIAA conference records UK men's team and a source for a footnote citation? FYI, I am guessing, but do not know for certain, that the UK women's team was an independent, given the relative rarity of women's intercollegiate sports programs in the for the early 20th Century. Also, we still need an infobox for Tigert's UK football records—are you interested in building that one? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 13:37, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Most of my recent UK work has related to women's basketball. http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/Statistics/teams.html has a fairly complete listing of every game every played by the Kentucky men's team, but it doesn't indicated conference/non-conference for that period; comparing the 1912-13 season to the list at Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (assuming that list is accurate and complete), the conference record was 1-1, with both games home against Vanderbilt. BTW, the seasons listed on the Tigert article are different from what's shown at List of Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball seasons, which lists him only for 1912-13. That list article is totally unsourced, and I've found problems with it before, but in this case it seems to agree with the external link I gave above. On the other hand, http://www.ukathletics.com/sports/m-baskbl/archive/all-time-coaches.html lists Tigert for 1916 and 1917 with the other names in parenthises. cmadler (talk) 14:32, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gestural Variations[edit]

Thanks for being interested in the work of Graham Waterhouse again. I suggested an alternative. The Gasteig article isn't too great, and the publisher isn't too happy with versions not published by him anyway. But I enjoyed the second performance of the flute version last Sunday, again at Gasteig, very much! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:35, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please look at the alternative? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:29, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for helping a third DYK on its way - after you showed me first the idea that I came to like! I didn't count how many times I got "Bach" on the Main page during the last weeks, smile. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:34, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK concerns[edit]

I'm a little concerned about the promotion of the Jonaki (magazine) hook since the copy editing I stated needed to be done before promotion was not done in any fashion. A native English speaker needs to take a quick pass through to eliminate awkward phrasing and the like before this reaches the front page. - Dravecky (talk) 23:52, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've had a go at copy editing it, and while there are still a few places where the wording could probably be improved, I don't see any serious problems remaining. Let me know what you think - it's still got nearly 24 hours before it hits the main page. cmadler (talk) 13:06, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help with DYK hook[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you've written and reviewed Did you know hooks for college football articles. I have a proposed hook, 2009 International Bowl, that needs to be reviewed. Would you mind taking a look at it? I was hoping to get it on the Main Page on Thursday because of the tie-in to the NFL Draft. Thanks in advance. Grondemar 16:14, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Eastern Michigan Eagles football[edit]

I happened on your expansion of the EMU football article in scanning the DYK nominations. Very impressive work. A program with such a long history deserves nothing less. It struck me that Rynearson doesn't have an article. Are you planning to create one? I'd be happy to help with it if you'd like. Cbl62 (talk) 19:57, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I did Mike Stock (football coach) today. I'm probably going to try to do Rynearson this weekend or next week. I'd certainly appreciate any help you can give. Most of what I've put together came from pretty basic sources like the recent media guides and College Football Data Warehouse, but especially if you know of sources to help flesh out the framework I put together, that would be great! Thanks, cmadler (talk) 20:39, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and started the article with some information I was able to locate this afternoon from his obituaries and a couple other sources. It appears that he coached every sport at EMU and also served as the athletic director. I have found information on his record as football and basketball coach, but nothing yet on his record as coach in baseball and other sports. It's at Elton Rynearson. Cbl62 (talk) 01:58, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I added a bunch of information about his career as basketball and football coach, and I've nominated it for DYK. cmadler (talk) 13:26, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Now working on Dan Boisture. cmadler (talk) 13:35, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It looks pretty darn good for an article that's less than 24 hours old. Good working with you. Cbl62 (talk) 19:28, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've also added a bit to the Boisture article from old newspaper sources. Hope you don't mind. Cbl62 (talk) 20:29, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK problem[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Dan Boisture at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Great work on the Eastern Michigan Eagles football article![edit]

Cmadler,

I'm an Ann Arbor guy and a University of Michigan student, but I have many family and friends who are Eastern students or graduates, so I have a soft spot for Eagles football. The work you have done on the EMU football article is fantastic, and a barnstar is only a small token of the recognition you deserve for your effort. EMU should be proud of you!

TFCforever (talk) 17:42, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I actually have no formal connection to EMU (I'm and alumnus of Kentucky and of Michigan State), but I live in Ypsi, and I feel like EMU needs all the love it can get; I've sort of adopted the school as mine. :-) cmadler (talk) 12:45, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Note to my future self, moved the barnstar to User:Cmadler/Awards and recognition, left the conversation here. cmadler (talk) 19:36, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for your verification of the hook at Template_talk:Did_you_know#Everybody_Draw_Mohammed_Day for Everybody Draw Mohammed Day. Unfortunately, it appears that Gatoclass (talk · contribs) appears to be attempting to use the DYK suggestions page as a forum to continue to rehash his failed arguments from the AFD that resulted in Keep. What can be done about this? -- Cirt (talk) 14:04, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hrm, you make a very interesting and good comment here [2] - do you suppose it is possible that Gatoclass (talk · contribs) shifts his arguments at times, simply as a way to support WP:IDONTLIKEIT? -- Cirt (talk) 15:10, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK[edit]

Hi Cmadler, thanks for your common sense regarding the Manatee Palms stuff. Would you mind requeueing the article? It was supposed to be published on the main page yesterday but some troll basically stopped that due to his opinion that his "gut" mattered more than the entire process I went through to get it nominated. Thanks.Tkfy7cf (talk) 16:15, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will not requeue it until/unless it is reapproved through DYK. I have left a comment on the DYK nomination regarding the remaining problems of a number of bare URLs in references, and the "History" section being entirely unreferenced. As an aside, Materialscientist was correct to remove it from the queue for these reasons, as well as the concern raised by an IP user impersonating Victuallers in the approval of Psichiatric Solutions. I hope you can appreciate the suspicious appearance of that. There is no harm in moving a hook from a queue back to the nominations page for further evaluation. cmadler (talk) 17:28, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The problems you've mentioned have been fixed and I'm currently waiting for the article to be reapproved so that you can requeue it. Thanks so much for your help. Tkfy7cf (talk) 04:29, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please let me know on my talk page when you requeue the article? Thanks very much.Tkfy7cf (talk) 04:38, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I (or another editor) will requeue the article when all the problems have been addressed; they have not yet. If I'm the one who does it, I'll let you know. cmadler (talk) 13:52, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reconsidering and removing the image from the article. As for DYK, I consider the original proposed hook and ALT1 problematic, as I mentioned there, and it would not be appropriate for the to approve my own suggestion (ALT2). There's no rush, someone will get to it. cmadler (talk) 22:47, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do you remember the Bach cantata? I nominated it for Pentecost, the first reviewer is not happy with the term Thomanerchor, do you think you might have a look? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:39, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I suggested a slightly reworded ALT4, see what you think. Also, in looking at the Adele Stolte article, I changed some of the German terms to English. Thanks, cmadler (talk) 12:40, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I can live with ALT4. I prefer boys to boys'. Thanks even more for finding links that I had searched for without success! About the German in wiki-links: I see more and more "original names" - like Thomanerchor. When Adele Stolte recorded, it was most likely Gewandhausorchester. But it's ok for now, and thanks for your effort! - I'm thinking of one more for Pentecost - not Bach, smile. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:06, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I've actually just moved the Thomanerchor article also. cmadler (talk) 13:17, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I wish you had moved the orchestra instead, looking at Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Gächinger Kantorei and others. Thomanerchor is well established, their English web says: Welcome to the Thomanerchor. The thoroughly English bach-cantatas website says Thomanerchor. The two hooks of April both mentioned Thomanerchor, a different name now would be confusing. - I think the English version is not a name (different from Salzburg Festival that is known as such) but just a translation. Could you look at the many direct links to Thomanerchor and think about moving it back? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:02, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please consider: Thomanerchor is an internationally known unique name, unique in the world. It doesn't need a qualifier like Leipzig. It's almost like a brand name. Take Shell. The German Wikipedia doesn't argue that it translates to Muschel. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:47, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, some names are not translated (this includes names of people, so my grandfather, for example, stayed Adler and did not become Eagle when he emigrated to the US) and some names that are descriptive are translated (so United States becomes die Vereinigten Staaten). Company names and especially brand names tend to the former and are usually not translated. So Volkswagen is Volkswagen, not Peoples' Car. But orchestras, choirs, schools, etc. tend toward the latter, and are often translated. So the Deutsche Demokratische Republik (DDR) was the German Democratic Republic (GDR), and the Basilica Cattedrale Patriachale di San Marco is Saint Mark's Basilica or Saint Mark's Cathedral in Venice. Some of those other articles probably should be moved as well. cmadler (talk) 17:35, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I understand this in general. I defended St John Passion versus Johannes Passion, successfully so. But Thomanerchor is not "a choir", but a very singular choir with a tradition of centuries. The name should not be translated, as Gächinger Kantorei is not translated (less than 70 years) or Münchener Bach-Chor (60 years). These names are used worldwide, known worldwide - and get unrecognizable in translation. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:03, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please have a look at the new soprano - for cats or links I missed - and also at Peter Schreier's collection of awards? - Concerning the topic above: the move Johannes Passion to St John Passion was performed after a long discussion that reached a conscensus. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:20, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thomanerchor[edit]

Thanks for looking at Dorothee Mields. Could you please check the red links in awards for the Thomanerchor as well? Perhaps this list is helpful? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:48, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My usual rule of thumb for redlinks is to ask the following questions:
  1. Do I plan to create the article within the next week? If so, then keep the link.
  2. Does a category exist for winners of the award? If so, probably keep the link.
  3. Do other articles also link to that non-existent article? (To find out, click the redlink, then click "What links here".) If this is the only link to that spot, you might want to remove the redlink.
  4. Is the most appropriate thing to redirect it to another article? This will often be the case with awards, which might be redirected to a section of the article about the awarding organization (or vice versa, if the award is more widely known than the organization). Then, if/when the section is big enough, it can be spun off as its own article, and the links will be intact. For example, create a section in European Cultural Foundation (possibly a subsection of "Activities") titled "European Cultural Award". Then make European Cultural Award a redirect to that section.
  5. Is there a more general article on a group to which this award belongs? In this case, I found an article about the ECHO awards in general, though not specifically about the ECHO Klassik award.
Also, when looking for articles which you think might already exist, it can help to hunt through relevant categories. For example, I found the ECHO Award article by going from Category:German awards to Category:German music awards. In all cases, if there's no link or only a redlink, it is helpful to give the name of the organization bestowing the award (or the event to which the award is tied), which you've done here in some cases but not in others. I hope that helps to give you some ideas for how to deal with the redlinks. cmadler (talk) 13:19, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your efforts and explanations. I have a similar routine, mostly for singers: try a red link, see if other pages link, if yes, keep the link. I did so today for the teacher of D. Mields whom I found in recording lists. I plan to do Ludger Rémy soon. As for Thomanerchor: I didn't create that article. Someone else translated it from German and simply kept the links that are blue there. Thanks for sifting them! - Back to the name. I wonder what kind of an info box that is with no room for the director? I was not even tempted to write Thomanerchor as "Alternate name". It is the name, anything else is alternate. It would make just as much sense to say that Antonín Dvořák is the alternate name for Antonin Dvorak. One more thought: the typical German naming convention for a church choir would say "Chor of St. X, Y-town". That would indeed meet your construction. But Thomanerchor is different, one word, four syllables, unique in the world. Would you please move the page back? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:43, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thomanerchor 4[edit]

Food for thought: I don't go and move de:The Beatles to Die Käfer von Liverpool. Please revert the move. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:06, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done, and copied relevant discussion from this page, further discussion there. cmadler (talk) 09:56, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I wrote a summary line there - blind for the fact that the move had happened. What I wrote is still valid and would be my starting point for discussions, - the rest a bit too much to read, and a bit too private, but I don't mind. - I confess that The Beatles were a bad example, - but also a group that is known internationally under the same name. Vereinigte Staaten has been replaced in Germany more and more by USA. - I'm very pleased that now any of the DYK hooks (but 5) could be used, smile. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:36, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comet[edit]

Thank you for another comet (remembering Hale Bopp) and for letting me know that there will be new moon on my birthday that will be graced by a new (short, choral) composition of Graham Waterhouse, official premiere June 27. I nominated Jan Kobow, btw, an excellent singer, as I heard on radio after I wrote. Also Edith Selig although I couldn't find the slightest bit of bio, - many students, a double name sometimes, suggesting marriage, that's it. Curious? Good viewing, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:25, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at this picture, you really get a good idea of the bright green coma and the long thin tail. It should be easy to see this weekend with binoculars, and maybe without, especially if you are away from the lights of any city or town. cmadler (talk) 17:49, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Spectacular, and described well! - I realize that above I confused "my" singers, Kobow approved alredy, next Andreas Schmidt (not the soccer player called footballer, but baritone). I wonder if this very active singer shouldn't get the honour of being reached directly by name, as the other one is already retired. - Back to the sky: how would I write a disambiguation for Stolte including Adele Stolte? Or would you, smile? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:12, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I took care of Stolte, it was just a redirect (with nothing linking to it), so I changed it to a disambiguation page. No problem there. As for the two Andreas Schmidts, you should raise the issue at Talk:Andreas Schmidt and put a note at Talk:Andreas Schmidt (baritone) pointing to that discussion. cmadler (talk) 19:14, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for both! After the new moon ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:02, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I need your opinion: Talk:Elakala Falls[edit]

The book The History of Tucker County I added as a source for the history of the name of the falls, from the online source I was able to see from Google Books, it looked like it confirmed the Indian story, but I got an e-mail back from a current employee of the state park (I e-mailed them asking for additional info) and she said she didn't think it involved a princess. So I tracked down the book in a nearby library and checked it out. The reference is indeed not about a princess, but a warrior named Elakala, this does not match the other reference. I'm more likely to believe the reference in the book. I put the full quote on the talk page, please read it and let me know how you think we should modify the article (and the DYK entry I have pending for this page). — raeky (talk | edits) 17:16, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Dzungarian Gate[edit]

I delinked Dzungarian Alatau from the ALT2 Hook. There does not appear to be a relevant article. I assume the hook is good to go. Let me know if there are any other issues on my talk page. Thanks for the help.μηδείς (talk) 18:51, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cmadler, just wanted to say that I've come up with a better solution that the previous. Do take a look at it, and if you could, the other Michigan Wolverines football team DYK nominations too. Regards, AngChenrui (talk) 08:21, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Photos of Wilderness Road State Park[edit]

Thanks for uploading those photos of the park and the restored Martin's Station. You picked the best of them for the entry, and I have expanded it a bit. Enjoy your weekend. MarmadukePercy (talk) 02:58, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fred Trosko[edit]

Hi Cmadler. It's my recollection that you have a lot of information about Eastern Michigan football. I started an article today on Fred Trosko and would appreciate any input you might be willing to offer. Cbl62 (talk) 20:13, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know, but I really don't have much to add to that right now. I'll see if any can dig anything more up later this week. But in the meantime, I think that's a pretty good summary of his time at MSNC/EMC/EMU. cmadler (talk) 18:22, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hale Bopp[edit]

thinking of your first DYK nom for me a year ago I nominated Hale Bopp with the boy soprano, but without other-worldliness, smile, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:49, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2010 Michigan election[edit]

Please use some common sense. The way it is in every single election article is that a candidate must have at least 5% or more in one pre-election poll. After the election, a candidate needs to have obtained at least 5% of the electorate. The reason why this rule is in place is because if we didn't, the infobox could include more than 10 candidates and would look horrible. The point of the infobox is summerize the results of the article. This is due process and the way it always has been. I have edited hundreds of election articles (presidential, senate, gubernatorial, etc.). I'm a veteran editor.

As far as where this rule has been discussed. Refer to:

Please think about it. Thanks.--Jerzeykydd (talk) 15:13, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Articles with a promotional tone and External links[edit]

Dear Cmadler,

on page Pune # Culture - some one had put External link as:

Pune's disposable income has been growing with an increasing working population inviting many expensive restaurants and pubs like Barbeque Nation, Mainland China, Hard Rock cafe etc. Further, there are a bunch of standalone restaurants and local chains like Shiv Sagar. A list of all the restaurants in Pune along with the menu can be found on Foodiebay - a menu pages website.

Is it vandalism ?

if yes then, what one should do to it. Plz let me know.

thanks, --Shlok 19:23, 26 August 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sachinvenga (talkcontribs)

I would call it not vandalism but link spam. I've removed it. cmadler (talk) 12:27, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Student life at Eastern Michigan University[edit]

Hi, the content should be integrated into the main article Eastern Michigan University. Details on the 'student life' does not warrant a separate article. -Reconsider! 12:41, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm actually pulling some content out of the main Eastern Michigan University article and adding additional content to make the new article. This has been done with other universities as well, where there is more information to add but the main article about the university is becoming quite large. Thanks, cmadler (talk) 12:49, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

CFPAs[edit]

Cmadler, I saw your comment at the deletion discussion for the College Football Performance Awards. For what it may be worth, I sent a note to Dennis Dodd at CBS Sports, they guy who wrote that one non-press release article, explaining what happened here on Wikipedia.
