Stamford High School (Stamford, Connecticut)& Bob Crane

[edit]

Hello, if you have new ground-breaking information that's citable that Bob Crane had anything to do with Stamford, please cite it. Markvs88 (talk) 00:06, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and thank you for your note. I do have ground-breaking information that comes directly from spending 3.5 years co-researching a new, serious biography about Crane, publication pending. I conducted extensive research in Stamford at Stamford High School and the Stamford Historical Society, as well as with numerous members of his graduating class, thus confirming Bob Crane graduated from Stamford High School in 1946. In addition, I have his yearbook (given to me by Stamford High) and a copy of the SHS 1946 graduation program, listing him as a graduate (on record at the Stamford Historical Society). Further, I have Crane's Stamford National Guard form, stating his enlistment date and honorable discharge date. He did not serve in the Army Reserves. Finally, according to the Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra, which was formerly the Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, Bob had been a student member of the Connecticut Symphony, not a paid member. The text on the Stamford High School page and Bob Crane's history page is correct and provable, and I have cited as directed. Thanks so much. Cmford714 (talk) 04:36, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is original research. You can't just cite an old book that's not published, it doesn't pass Wikipedia:Verifiability. Best, Markvs88 (talk) 14:09, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have both the yearbook and the graduation program. They are published (as mentioned in the citation) and on record at Stamford High School and at the Stamford Historical Society. I have a strong relationship with Stamford High School, the Stamford High School Class of 1946, and the Stamford Historical Society. They will attest to this information as being true and accurate.Cmford714 (talk) 14:28, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Whomever "they" are wouldn't matter in terms of verifiability, but the links you added to the Bob Crane page work. Thanks, Markvs88 (talk) 19:50, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I appreciate your patience with me! I understand your role and the required verifiable sources. My goal was simply to provide the correct information for the benefit of all. Best, Cmford714 (talk) 21:25, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not at all, you've done well! I took the liberty of adding a service award to your user page. If you're interested in working on other Connecticut pages (including Stamford, people from CT, et al) you're welcome to join us, the WikiProject Connecticut at Wikipedia:WikiProject Connecticut/Members. There are many, many pages that need editing out there. Best of luck, Markvs88 (talk) 15:09, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Terrific - and many thanks! I am swamped with work deadlines at the moment, but I would be happy to help work on other Connecticut pages. I'll be in touch. Best, Cmford714 (talk) 18:07, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Be sure to sign your name on the Members page (Wikipedia:WikiProject Connecticut/Members) and see you around! Markvs88 (talk) 14:45, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Something to make your life easier!

[edit]

Hi there Cmford714! I've just come across one of your articles, and noticed that you might appreciate some help with references.

You might want to consider using this tool - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. Happy editing! Adrianne Wadewitz Memorial edit-a-thons

[edit]
Adrianne Wadewitz edit-a-thons in Southern New England

As you may have already heard, the Wikipedia community lost an invaluable member of the community last month. Adrianne Wadewitz was a feminist scholar of 18th-Century British literature, and a prolific editor of the site. As part of a worldwide series of tributes, New England Wikimedians, in conjunction with local institutions of higher learning, have created three edit-a-thons that will be occurring in May and June. The events are as follows:

We hope that you will be able to join us, whether you are an experienced editor or are using Wikipedia for the first time.

If you have any questions, please leave a message at Kevin Rutherford's talk page. You can unsubscribe from future notifications for Boston-area events by removing your name from this list.
