Wikipedia Rotuman[edit]

Hi!

I'm looking at putting together a Wikipedia in the Rotuman Language for the sake of the preservation of the language in the years to come, as the diaspora continues. If you can help by voting in this process, please do so at the following address: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Rotuman

Welcome back[edit]

Hey, welcome back. Good to see you around again. I have been working on Waisale Serevi for over a month now. I think it's near FA status. Needs an expansion about his personal life, and a section on his achievements. I'd welcome any help I can get with the article because it's very hard work without any help. Anyway, if you could create a section listing all his career achievements that are discussed in the article that would be great. Thanks! - Shudda talk 11:49, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Cometstyles, glad to see you're back from you're Wikibreak. I see you've been active at the RfA's already! Acalamari 16:20, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Uh, actually Cometstyles I was in an RfA when you were on a Wikibreak, and my RfA sank. If you want to see what happened just look at the message I've put at the top of my user and talk page, and you can link to the RfA if you want. Acalamari 16:37, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I made several mistakes in January and February, and all of them combined were enough to generate as many opposes as they did. Even so, my supports managed to reach 40. I am not going to self-nominate again, and if someone decides to nominate me anytime before June 21st (three months after the RfA began) I will turn it down. I'm going to use that failed RfA as a way to improve myself as an editor overall, not just as a way to become an admin. I don't believe adminship is a reward (and the page about administrators says that). On the bright side, as I said in the RfA, I'd treat it as a editor review, and that's what I'm doing. I do not consider the RfA to be a failure. Sure, the RfA didn't pass; but on an emotional and editor level, it was a success because it said about where I can improve myself. Acalamari 17:05, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Hey Cometstyles, and thanks for voting for Wikipedia Rotuman. As an aside to your comment about a Fijian wikipedia, there already is one [1], and it is in desperate need of some serious working over! I would help but my fijian is quite poor. If you or anyone you know is interested, you should probably try and help out whoever started the Fijian wikipedia by adding some newer, better articles! Thanks again, and let me know if you ever need any wiki favours! --Mattbray 12:08, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AIV[edit]

Please don't leave messages like this at AIV. There's no reason for us to take crap from you in addition to the crap we already take from the vandals themselves. If you can't be civil about your reports, you don't have to make them in the first place. Kafziel Talk 18:09, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps I gave you the wrong impression. I'm not asking for your opinion about whether or not you think it was rude. It was rude. And I was being extra civil by giving you the above hand-written warning. If you'd prefer not to see the word "crap" on your page, I could replace it with a simple template like this instead. I think those things are dumb, but that's up to you. Either way, the warning I posted above is just that: a warning. It carries the same weight.
Nlu was right in saying that you shouldn't have posted that report. Our job is to determine the correct action, not to jump through hoops at your command. Someone disagreeing with you does not give you the right to cop an attitude. We're here to help as we see fit; we're not your slaves. Kafziel Talk 18:31, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Putting "I wasn't rude" in bold face doesn't make it true. You're the one who said it - you don't get to decide whether it was rude or not. Perhaps you didn't intend to be rude, but you absolutely were. I can't think of a single place where telling someone "do your job" is considered polite. All that's left is to apologize to her or simply accept your warning. It's all the same to me.
290 reports in 6 months is next to nothing. You're certainly a long way off from lecturing an experienced editor like Nlu on what her job is, particularly since it's quite obvious from her contribs that she went offline a few minutes after her first reply to your report. She never saw your update, or your remark. For a guy who claims to assume good faith, you did a poor job of it there. If you have some personal issue about admins not blocking people quickly enough for you, AIV isn't the place to voice it. Kafziel Talk 18:57, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My point is that you could have known she was offline if you had taken a look at her contributions before getting upset. They're right there for all to see. And leaving your angry note didn't have any effect at all at speeding things up; I would have blocked him whether you said that or not, and I wouldn't have had to waste all this time going back and forth with you when I could be blocking even more vandals at AIV right now. Kafziel Talk 19:25, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome Back[edit]

Good to have you back. Did you buy Hilary Duff's new album Dignity yet. If you did what are your favorite songs on the album. QuasyBoy 24:13 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Nominated[edit]

Hey I have nominated you for RFA. Please accept or decline the nomination. I feel you have a good chance of passing though. [2] Retiono Virginian 11:40, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There, sorry about getting your edit count wrong, but I have added the sub page to WP:RFA so now the voting will begin, hopefully you will get lots of supports, and if not. you can always try again with more edits and experience. Retiono Virginian 12:41, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about this; but the editor in particular is digging themselves in a hole. They labelled me a "bad editor" and this is disparaging and negative, it's a Personal attack really, it's beyond critism. You don't use labels for editors on Wikipedia, apart from vandals and trolls, I'll keep out of the RFA dicussion if I am causing problems. Retiono Virginian 13:23, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the editor who framed me for accidently crossing out an irrelevant comment which said of something over a month ago being recent said I was a "bad editor" and made other comments. I said they were being uncivil and personally attacking so I removed their comments on my talk page and framed them on their talk page. So they've shut it for now; but don't leave Wikipedia for this, its a website. Yeah, and I have a problem with a lot of the editors on it; but I cling on. Despite that, I don't think you have been Uncivil or Not assuming good faith. Retiono Virginian 13:38, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The vote has turned. Thanks to explaining the issue to some other editors, they are supporting you; the other editors who were saying you were uncivil are wrong. Retiono Virginian 13:46, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RFA[edit]

That is not how an admin should conduct themselves, ever. On talk pages or not. – Chacor 14:16, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I should have made it clearer, but to use the word "speak" in this context would be weird. I meant that that is not the right SPAG an admin should use. – Chacor 14:25, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid you have done yourself out of this WP:RFA. Keep quiet, as everytime you appear to be explaining yourself you are giving them more reason for them to oppose. I am sorry about this. Retiono Virginian 14:32, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What I will say is this: I am no longer going to make further comments on your RFA. Furthermore, I feel that if you apologise now for your actions during the RFA, that may be looked on positively. At this rate you'll probably fail, but apologising now would help you in a future RFA. Good luck. – Chacor 14:37, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your behaviour and comments, actually. Although, if you do think that you've done nothing wrong, then disregard my message. Cheers. – Chacor 14:46, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dont leave, I have a bad experience on my Second RfA (shown here) and I created a new account because I was angry but re-considered the next day, I'll leave a message on Kafziels page about this and dont leave, we'll all get it sorted out.Tellyaddict 14:48, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Don't bother, TA. I've been watching this the whole time. Kafziel Talk 14:49, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's best that we all let the matter drop. To Cometstyles: I saw your comment on tellyaddict's page. Let me put it this way: I have gone through this. I have the acrimonious honour of having been desysopped, and twice trying and failing to regain adminship. People will use silly reasons to oppose, including past conflicts that weren't handled well. Just got to keep your chin up. – Chacor 14:56, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the whole situation, and the disruptive thing I done with the text strike, but now let's end this. Retiono Virginian 14:57, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Untranscluded RFCN[edit]

You created this RFCN discussion page yesterday, but didn't transclude it to the main RFCN page. Do you still wish to bring this name for discussion? Leebo T/C 15:09, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, I have no opinion on it. I just wanted to check to make sure it was not transcluded for a reason. Happy editing. Leebo T/C 15:15, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Waisale Serevi[edit]

Hey, I'm getting there with Serevi, I need to add references to the international XV's section, and expand his personal life section. The only other thing I need to do is list his achievements. His achievements are huge, and cover a wide range of things (fifteens, club, sevens, coaching, and other stuff). Could you please help me with this. I've started a section in my sandbox here. Could you please add do it, and check what I've done. There is heaps of info on him here, but even checking through the article as it is and adding to the list would be good. Even finding the points he scored in each sevens world cup? And listing his Hong Kong Sevens tournaments, plus player of the tournament awards. It's going to take me ages to complete it myself so some help would be great. - Shudda talk 08:40, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added the "Phill 4:13" quote to his personal life section. - Shudda talk 09:37, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re:aiv[edit]

Actually, if you look at the discussion page for WP:AIV, you will see that I and many other admins agree that reporting a username without stating why it is a violation is a bad way to do it.

It must have occured to you that a vast majority of admins would not know what it means, so next time please clarify why it is a violation or the name will be removed from AIV again just as it was today, we aren't expected to be mind readers, and reports to AIV must be as specific as possible. Thanks! :) SGGH 14:23, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for understanding, I'm sorry if I came off a bit rude above I didn't mean to, and I'm glad to see that the next username vio that you reported shortly afterwards was reported perfectly and was blocked :) cheers Cometstyles SGGH 14:29, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hurricanes / Blues score fix[edit]

Thanks for spotting that one! I have a spreadsheet that I use to ensure that the points table matches the actual results (since a lot of news sites embarrassingly get the For & Against, in particular, wrong). But of course, garbage in, garbage out, and with that score being wrong I was "correcting" your correct numbers to wrong numbers! Apologies for that. --Stormie 00:26, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bio-stubs[edit]

Hi - several stub templates or categories which you created has been nominated for deletion or renaming at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub types, which were not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, do not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 07:57, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA[edit]

Ah, darn. Looks like my RFA didn't succeed. No doubt I'll take another run at it in a few months when my edit count isn't such an [[WP: Editcountitis|issue]]. Thanks for the vote of confidence. Cheers, LankybuggerYell ○ 03:01, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. This may sound a little odd, but I felt it necessary to tell you that I found your comment at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/TerriersFan most righteous. More people should have your attitude. --Tractorkingsfan 10:07, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA[edit]

Hi Cometstyles/Archive April 07 and thank you for your support on my recent request for adminship. Unfortunately, the request failed, however I aim to improve the concerns that were brought up and hopefully bring myself up to the standards of admin. Once again, I thank you for your support. --KzTalkContribs 12:24, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA[edit]

Damn. I was just about to report it, too! I like the nice, unambiguous WP:U violations. Cheers, Flyguy649talkcontribs 17:57, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, currently this article links to no other articles (see here). Maybe you want to have links from it in the appropriate national rugby team articles? I'm going to go put it in the All Blacks one now (I know the IRB World Rankings are specifically mentioned in it though). - Shudda talk 22:29, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suicidalemokid[edit]

I've left a request on WP:RFCN for you to specify which aspect of WP:U the above username violates. Please include that information in all future username RFCs, it's not always obvious. Thanks! - CHAIRBOY () 14:28, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

encourging trolling[edit]

I have been told by one particular admin not to mention the "someone in particular's" username, as I have been told it encourages trolling and just makes him create more and more accounts. Please follow WP:RBI, but still use the name when reporting to admins. Retiono Virginian 15:02, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chrisch 12:58, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for helping out at WP:ACC. You might want to bear in mind that if a username is 'too similar' to another account then normally, the requester won't need to choose another username; they can simply wait for an admin to come along and create the account for them. It's only when the username that it's similar to belongs to an active account, or one that has many edits and/or has edited recently when the request will need to be declined. Tra (Talk) 18:59, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to me the date would would validate the photo of the Carousel at the Danbury mall an if that was the case the date could be removed, also the frame could be removed. I just think you are looking for an excuse to remouv the photo. It shows me the photo was taken before the work began, that's in favor of the photo and the taker, I think it's a great shot, and you shnold give credit where it's deseverd. V. Ferraro.

AIV[edit]

Hey Comet, please see the green box at WP:AIV. "Username is a clear violation of the username policy" is not sufficient under the updated guidelines for reporting username violations. Cheers! SGGH 13:44, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thanks buddy :) SGGH 13:47, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again, please don't use "is a clear violation of the username policy" when reporting usernames, even if those you reported just now are obvious, it will get you in good practise for the more debatable ones. With the Wwuwuuuuu etc. one an AsGF and a username concern tag on the talk page I think would have been more appropriate :) SGGH 12:56, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to keep coming back, but you accidentally reported User:StatisticianBot to AIV when StatisticianBot was actually a real bot. I'm sure the circumstances at the time were such that you couldn't tell that it was actually a bot, so I'm not being nasty or anything, I fell into the same trap too! (I blocked StatisticianBot indefinitely after you reported him! lol) SGGH 18:12, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Lol well it's all sorted now so no worries. I hope you don't think im riding you or anything just because of all my above AIV messages, it just happens to be me who has noticed them at the time. I don't mean anything malicious :) see you around SGGH 18:17, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well I'm glad your upbeat, I've only been an admin about 1 month, and even with 250<500 blocks I'm still a little nervous of screwing up! Takes time to be confident of the tools I guess. See you SGGH 18:28, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Goodbye. However, please note that both TellyAddict and myself repeatedly asked (begged?) you on your talk page to reconsider, long before the UserBox debacle started. The userbox thing was the final straw, really, and I'm saddened that you've not learnt from this incident; just put it behind you and got on with things.
