Regarding the welcome message, no problem, and feel free to ask if you have any more specific questions. I know there are a lot of policies and help pages and everything, but there is also WP:BOLD which could be taken to mean that trying something out is better than being so intimidated that you want your edits to be perfect before making any. One minor thing: comments on talk pages should generally go at the end, per WP:TALK. A lot of people won't look at any part of the talk page other than the end.
