Suggestions[edit]

Good start on improving this article! Here are some suggestions:

  1. You might have separate sections for Life and Career
  2. You might move the extensive text in the caption on "The Women of Plymouth" into the body of the article and have the image appear not in gallery format.
  3. Try clicking on an image and then clicking on "More details" at the bottom right. This will lead you to where you can find "Categories" at the bottom. There you'll find more images under "Lucia Fairchild Miller".
  4. If you have access to any of the images in the real world, you can make your own photographs and use them here, subject to US copyright rules.

Keep up the good work! Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 15:13, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Words to watch?[edit]

Hi CornishFourColumns,

Congratulations on the progress that you are making in improving this article!

Two phrases caught my eye in light of MOS:FLOWERY:

  • "A lovely self portrait done" and "conveys Lucia's full powers"—Unless your source called the image "lovely", it would not appear to represent Wikipedia:Neutral point of view to say so. Likewise, it appears to be the editor's and not the cited sources opinion that the image "conveys Lucia's full powers". Perhaps the sentence should simply read, "An 1890 self portrait demonstrated Fuller's skills at age 18."
  • "After a furtive love affair of several years"—Does the source use the word, "furtive"? WP:TONE might suggest writing, "Fuller married a fellow student, American painter Henry Brown Fuller, in 1893 after a multi-year love affair".

MOS:SURNAME says that, "After the initial mention, a person should generally be referred to by surname only....", so we should be talking about "Fuller", instead of "Lucia".

I hope that these suggestions are helpful. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 22:28, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Changing surname[edit]

Hi C4C, you might want to review MOS:NEE on how to handle the change of names from birth into marriage in the lead sentence. The fact that she is mentioned in the article before and after marriage indicates, per MOS:SURNAME, that you should avoid calling her "Lucia", but instead refer to her as "Fairchild" prior to marriage and "Fuller" thereafter. re-writing articles in sandbox[edit]

CornishFourColumns Thanks for the ping regarding the Lucia Fairchild Fuller. My interest in her is her participation in the Chicago World's Fair. Happy to see you have kept that. I am writing you back to mention that there is a segment of editors who do not condone rewriting an article in user sandbox and then moving it. Please see the discussion at Women in Red archives under "Incoming batch of biographies from Wiki Education". It is great that you are working on updating women artists! I don't want you to be alarmed if you get some negative feed back for this technique. You are adding cited material. Go ahead and work in the main space! Best. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:02, 26 February 2021 (UTC) PS Think about becoming involved in Women in Red...We are an active community with a variety of ongoing events.[reply]

Hi WomenArtistUpdates. This is just to let you know that C4C is using this space to learn how to edit in WP and putting it to good effect at the same time. I expect that as the editor becomes more confident with the mechanics of editing that person will be more likely to edit in the main space. The plan is to bring sections across, piecemeal, so that each step can be reviewed, independently. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 20:06, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Added thought: The discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red/Archive 72#Incoming batch of biographies from Wiki Education appears to be mostly concerned about blending of editorial input from outside the article space. In the case of this sandbox, one editor would be bringing in the revised material from a sandbox. So, provenance will be clear. It's not important to see every copy edit made here, only the substantive result brought across. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 21:38, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Respectfully, three editors are working in this sandbox. Precisely the issue that was raised. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:15, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

I was wondering what you think of having the images run down the right side of the article so that they can be enjoyed as one read's the article.

I hope I wasn't too heavy handed with copy edits. Feel free to revert something if you don't agree. Other than some copy edits, I moved side comments into a "Notes" section, removed people in "See also" that are already linked in the article, moved the remaining See also up to the Early life and education and added to the intro.

When you are ready, I think the article is ready to copy to the article. The comment for the paste into the article should provide a link to your sandbox.

Great job!–CaroleHenson (talk) 06:45, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Material moved to Lucia Fairchild Fuller and copied to Talk page[edit]

Subsequent to the participation of a third editor, who made substantive contributions to the draft article in this sandbox, the material was moved in its entirety to Lucia Fairchild Fuller with this edit. The above two sections in this talk page were copied to Talk:Lucia Fairchild Fuller with this edit. HopsonRoad (talk) 02:54, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
