HMB436 Feedback[edit]

Hi CrabbyMil. Since we both have species of the Fusarium genus, I thought I would comment on your article.

First of all, you seem to have some formatting issues. Formatting suggestions:

  • To begin, I would delete the list under "hosts", since this is actually a list of diseases rather than potential hosts of the fungus, so I would suggest either going into more detail on the different diseases your fungus causes, and then putting this list in that section, or leaving the list out entirely.
  • You have two sections for "references". Your first seems like it just has parts of the original mark-up for the current wiki stub on your fungus, which you can delete in your sandbox, since you're writing a new, expanded version.

Content suggestions:

  • You briefly mention Snyder and Hansen, but you may want to go into more detail about their actual classification system for the Fusaria and some of the difficulties associated with identifying and describing distinct species within this genus
  • Under ecology, or maybe in a separate subsection, describe the geographic distribution of the fungus
  • You should also definitely expand your section on mycotoxins, as the Fusaria are known for the variety of mycotoxins that they produce, particularly the trichothecene class of mycotoxins, which are very clinically and environmentally relevant. There are many sources of information on this, particularly the Handbook of Secondary Metabolites (see source suggestions below).

Source suggestions: since we have the same genus, I'll suggest some sources that I've found useful that you haven't referred to yet:

  • The Compendium of Soil Fungi by Domsch - includes a fair amount of information on the Fusaria
  • The Genus Fusarium, by Booth
  • Microfungi on Land Plants, by Ellis
  • Fusarium Pathogenomics, an interesting paper in the annual review of microbiology, by Li-Jun Ma
  • Handbook of Secondary Fungal Metabolites, by R. J Cole

(Consult my sandbox for the full citations if you need more information to access these sources)

I hope this was helpful!
