Hi Bobrayner, thank you for your welcome message! I'm sure you sent me that message in real goodwill, so please don't be offended by my critic now: As a new user in a Wiki, it is very nice to be welcomed. However, if that welcome message comes along with a number of links to tutorials, one feels somehow offended in the sense of "ok, what did I do wrong that he had to send me that message?". I assure you that almost every new user is aware of the existance of those pages, so if you want to be friendly and really show your appreciation to new users and their contibutions, just send then a small personal line. Like your first one, but leave the rest. That would make the new user smile, instead of putting a '?' on his face. Cheers :) --Creihag (talk) 13:10, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia does have quite a complicated thicket of rules and procedures, and every editor is different; it's better to offer unnecessary help to some, than to risk keeping quiet when others really need help. bobrayner (talk) 13:35, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

True, but do you see that some people may also find it, how can I say, a bit 'rude'? You could achieve the same positive feeling with almost the same offer of help but at the same amout of work and with no risk of leaving the new contributors somewhat alienated. Do you see my point?
