2009 Kevin Rudd visit to Japan
[edit]Hello,
I just noticed that you moved 2009 Kevin Rudd visit to Japan out of the article incubator about 2 weeks ago. Can you please explain why this was done? It doesn't appear to be substantially changed from the version that was previously !voted out of mainspace at AfD, but perhaps there are extenuating circumstances I am unaware of.
Thanks, ThaddeusB (talk) 02:49, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
- Since you don't seem to be around, I have returned the article to the incubator for now to prevent G4 speedy deletion. --ThaddeusB (talk) 20:22, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
AGF
[edit]Clearly you have not been here long :) - AGF is always important - and indeed - to show concern about it even better for your record - systematic removal of items - legitimately or not - can happen so quickly, that sometimes edit histories and diffs are indeed the area of where a decision is made to in fact check an editing practice before it goes further - requires some actions that can be worked out later - even if the user is thinking they are doing a legitimate action. I would say no further and suggest that you get involved with some AIV and recent changes patrolling to see the fine line between where what appears to be a legitimate action and otherwise. SatuSuro 10:40, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- Also if you see the sysops reaction to the issue - http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&target=CambridgeBayWeather - my concern was legitimate - please be careful about accusing fellow editors of anything - unless you look very carefully as well - I have in fact added more welcome page templates in the last two days than anything like what you suggest. SatuSuro 10:53, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
Please remember to sign your messages:) I find your comment at my talk page anomalous - as I have specifically welcomed more editors in the last 24 hours and have only dealt with a couple of vandals - the reaction that I had to the user who was removing references was predicated on a number of issues in relation to a number of socks we have had deal with islamic article sin the past - I was quite prepared (and still am) to apologise and indeed retract any issues that I may have falsely labeled what appears to be a new user. I also am quite puzzled that you appear (according to chzz) to be a previous user under a new identity. I have no desire to pry into that one - if you had provided diffs that might have been a bit more civil on your part.
The only mechanisms in vandal and troublsome edits is to check history and contribs - yours is clearly an odd one and i would have probably responded very differently if you indeed are a ghost/reborn of a previous identity - but the admin status issue is a sidetrack - you accused me of something - and you provided no diffs, and I find you are a long term user. Whats there to say? SatuSuro 11:31, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- I have been very civil during this discussion. Welcoming users doesn't give you an excuse to bite a newcomer. I should have worded my original statement differently, because I haven't browsed through your contributions. I was mainly concerned with this edit, however if you would like to have some constructive criticism with diffs, I could browse through your contributions. CrimsonBlue (talk) 11:39, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for admitting I should have worded my original statement differently, because I haven't browsed through your contributions
which is why object to your message at my talk page - you clearly didnt look.
- For a start - I do not see why the user should not be taken to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:UAA for a block.
- Then if you look at the sequence of edits - deleting references - by a new user, and having experienced socks of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:DavidYork71 and others a few times over the last 4 years, the action appeared to require some quizzing, regardless...
- Where I could have apologised (but did not) was the users comment You above statement doesn't make sense - which is not a socks comment usually.
- If the user (a) had a suitable user name (b) wasnt repeatedly deleting references (whatever status) - I would have probably oozed AGF to the point of sickly rubbish - as it was I wonder what you would have done?
- I have no intention of pursuing this further myself - it is a mere pin prick on the very large balloon of general vandalism here at WP en, and unless you have something constructive to say - I would suggest that we just get on with what we are doing, and move on. Enjoy your reincarnation - you look busy :) SatuSuro 11:58, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
I also have gone to the user pages - and refactored my initial comments with a welcome, comment about user name and used the word apology - I rarely see some very long standing editors on this thing ever do that SatuSuro 12:08, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
Footnotes vs. citations
[edit]I'm assuming from edits like this and this that you're attempting to address something like this to convert reference formats. However, you should not assume that any use of {{ref}} and {{note}} is to create footnotes, which has been superceded by {{reflist}} (or <references>). A number of articles use those first two templates to create explanatory notes that are separate from the footnotes. The information at {{ref label}} and {{note label}} show that there is consensus in reusing {{ref}} and {{note}} this way. So be careful. — Ƶ§œš¹ [aɪm ˈfɹ̠ˤʷɛ̃ɾ̃ˡi] 22:58, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- My apologies.. I was planning on having someone review what I did, however I was at my school at that moment, and didn't have a way to contact someone who is helping me out. I stopped after just a few edits because of a few concerns that I thought would come out of it. Thanks for reverting, and sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused. Bot request?
[edit]Hey there. Any luck on getting the bot to work? Or did it continue to crash after you tried it the first few time? Kind regards.Calaka (talk) 07:32, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
- It wouldn't load for me, however thanks for reminding me of that, because I forgot, and I am home now... Let me see what I can do.. CrimsonBlue (talk) 08:24, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
- Oh no problem! I thought you have been trying it all the while and wasn't sure whether I had to reduce the amount of articles per page or what not (but we will see how you go first now that you can give it another go). Oh and just reminding you that I managed to get the first page done already so if you do manage to get it to work begin from page 2 onwards. (I.e. A2.) Cheers!Calaka (talk) 08:34, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
I can't figure it out, it keeps freezing... I will strike my comments on that page, and somebody else can pick it up... Really sorry, I didn't realize how big those lists were. CrimsonBlue (talk) 01:17, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hey that's cool man. Thanks again for giving it a go. Yeah it is quite an ambitious project but it will eventually get done hehehehe. Cheers!Calaka (talk) 08:41, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Bot edit reverted
[edit]I reverted this edit because your bot has linked to an Australian state instead of a hospital. Barrylb (talk) 10:27, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
- this is what should have been added... I was assisting the bot and checking the edits, but it must have slipped through.. My fault, thanks for pointing that out CrimsonBlue (talk) 19:06, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
- Still not the right link but I have fixed it. I also undid several other edits that were linking to US states instead of hospitals. Barrylb (talk) 04:27, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- Ok thanks CrimsonBlue (talk) 04:44, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Eddie Dodson
[edit]On May 2, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Eddie Dodson, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
CrimsonBot request
[edit]Can you have the bot not tag the categories listed at Wikipedia:CFDW#Speedy_moves for speedy deletion once the old category is empty? Having it do so interferes with the procedure and causes Cydebot to not delete the category automatically. This creates work for actual users, since we then have to manually delete the old category. Thanks. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:46, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
- Deletion mode has been disabled... Sorry about that :S... I will watch the bot after the next move, when I am back on to see if it is still tagging...The bot was made to help cydebot not hinder it, so if you need anything else don't hesitate to ask.. CrimsonBlue (talk) 01:25, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:43, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

[edit]I can find no CFD for this category move. Please identify the discussion... Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 18:43, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- Nevermind, found it in an older Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy; the nominator failed to tag the category prior to nomination, to notify people, tracked it all down. No worries on your part. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 18:55, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Skip if only whitespace changed in AWB
[edit]'Skip if only whitespace changed' was broken (in some circumstances) in 5.0.2.0 and has been fixed in the snapshots (link at top of page). There will be a new AWB release this week. -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:45, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- And it appears the newline stripping "feature" will be fixed as well. If only these had been fixed before, your BRFA would have gone much better I imagine. I know it certainly would have been less of a headache for me. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:13, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. —DoRD (talk) 12:36, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of place names of Native American origin in the United States, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Native American (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

CrimsonBot getting it wrong
[edit]Hello. Re this edit just as an example. The bot coding has the columns correct in the top row of the table, depending on the parameters supplied to {{Football player statistics 1}}, but it's ignoring the parameters when it converts the national subheadings {{Football player statistics 2}} and just includes all possible column headings. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:03, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- I am sorry I don't see the problem here. It's substituting the template so it should be the exact same (Since its just adding subst: in front of the template.) CrimsonBlue (talk) 10:08, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- Not all templates subst cleanly: perhaps there's something in the template code to prevent this one doing so? I'm afraid I don't know enough about template coding to suggest where the problem lies. It's clear that substing does give a different result in some cases:
- {{subst:Football player statistics 2|ESP|NY}} produces

Your Bot is messing up all the football statistics boxes!! Al the lines are offset now, please fix! Subzzee (talk) 19:39, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

CrimsonBot seems to be breaking stuff. For example, in article John Thomas Haig, there is no URL generated by the MPLinksCA code inserted. I will undo that update for now. I will update here if I can figure out what the update should have been. --Big_iron (talk) 14:14, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
- OK, I read the entry again - the proposal is to replace {{CanParlbio}}'s code with{{MPLinksCA}}, so no updates are required. CALL OFF THE BOT! --Big_iron (talk) 14:42, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
Also, could you please revert any updates performed by CrimsonBot to replace the template CanParlbio? It breaks stuff and is not necessary. Thanks. --Big_iron (talk) 14:45, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
Correction: there is a URL generated but the format generated by the template is not suitable for use in a reference. This is an issue with Template:MPLinksCA. --Big_iron (talk) 15:55, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
Please note that the replacement is the other way and the intent may be to delete Template:MPLinksCA after the merge has been completed, it would be desirable to revert all of the erroneous updates. --Big_iron (talk) 16:59, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

CrimsonBot blocked
[edit]Just wanted to let you know that I've blocked the bot, per the discussion at WP:ANI#:User:CrimsonBot is malfunctioning; apparently it's supposed to replace template A with template B, but is instead replacing template B with template A. Nyttend (talk) 15:24, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
- Until reading your message, I'd counted on unblocking the bot as soon as you said that the problem was resolved. I'm very sorry that I contributed to this — I wasn't at all meaning to make it so that you "don't enjoy editing anymore". It was simply that the bot seemed to be slightly messing up and I wanted to keep it from doing that: routine blocks of bots (which this definitely is) are in no sense an objection to the bot owner's actions. Because there were a lot of pages on which it hadn't yet replaced the template, I figured that it would soon replace more templates unless someone blocked it, since I didn't know if you'd stopped it. I should have specified in my original message that the bot would be unblocked as soon as the issue was fixed. Nyttend (talk) 03:47, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Crimson, there is a discussion at WP:AN where we have implemented a new template for bot operators when their bot is blocked stating that it is in no way an indication or accusation of wrong doing on the operator's behalf. I'm sorry you have interpreted that way - would you be willing to re-consider your retirement? GiantSnowman 16:11, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity
[edit]Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB.
