Russian notice-board

[edit]

Hello, Crzrussian. I noticed your name and thought you might be interested in adding Portal:Russia/New article announcements and Portal:Russia/Russia-related Wikipedia notice board to your watchlist. Happy edits, Ghirla | talk 07:28, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging for Image:Bishop_Alanis.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bishop_Alanis.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

In the future, you might want to give people more than two minutes to assert notability in what's obviously a work in progress. I sometimes speedy tag things from RC too, but it's sort of bad form to do it on a page that's not obviously non-notable, and even more so when it's the user's first contribution. Don't bite, OK? -Colin Kimbrell 01:44, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Long day? God, do I hear you on that one... Don't worry about it. -Colin Kimbrell 03:35, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article may well be something that will be deleted. However, speedy deletion isn't the proper process for it, since speedy deletion is usually for things that really obviously should be deleted. (granted, CSD-A7 uses a little broader criteria, but that's because we tend to get a huge number of vanity articles, and it's a matter of expediency) There are several processes for deleting articles, WP:CSD is but one of them. You've posted as a copyvio, which is one way to delete it in its current form. But if you feel the subject is generally non-notable, you're free to post it, or any rewrites, for deletion at WP:PROD or WP:AFD. My personal feeling is that since Wikipedia tends to include a huge number of fictional characters, it might be unlikely that the article gets deleted if it's rewritten or if the copyvio portion removed. But there's little harm in putting it through the different processes. --Interiot 15:56, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My contribution history

[edit]

How can I distill my contibution history to show only those pages I started out of my ~600 edits? Also, where can I see my edit statitsics? I've seen that once before, but can't find it anymore. I would appreciate a note on my talk page. Thx a lot. Crzrussian 17:56, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Only the pages you created? I'm not too sure there's a way to do that. At least I haven't found a way. But as for your second question, the edit statistics can be found using the following tools:
I'm sure there are more, but these are the two that I've found... If you use them frequently, I've found it very helpful to just put it right at the bottom of your user page. Hope this helps! tiZom(2¢) 00:39, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to WikiProject:New Jersey

[edit]

Welcom aboard to WikiProject:New Jersey, an effort to fill in the holes and expand the details regarding New Jersey. We've made major progress, but there's still a huge amount to do. We have no rules or regulations, but grab your keyboard and pick a task. use the WP:NJ Talk and project pages to let others know what you're doing or if you have any questions. Thanks for offering to help! Alansohn 20:51, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Setting up a WikiProject

[edit]

I started WP:NJ by cloning an existing project. I notified other users who had been editing New Jersey-related pages and its spread like wildfire. Not by word of mouth, but by people seeing references in their watchlist to the project. Try to find something as close to what you want to do and clone away. Best of luck!. Alansohn 20:59, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for participating in Wikiproject New Jersey. In an attempt to create articles for some of the non-existing pages related to New Jersey, NJCOTW was recently created to bring members of WP:NJ together to work collaboratively on a certain selected topic, which this week is List of Governors of New Jersey. Please help by nominating/voting/commenting on articles on WP:NJCOTW, or by helping to improve articles in the scope of the topic for the NJCOTW. AndyZ 00:53, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Night court

[edit]

I think it must be a California thing - from the way Kozinski talks about it (see the source article at p.6), I would presume it's like an out-of-hours court held during the evening, for people who can't make it during the day because of work commitments and the like. Simon Dodd 22:12, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that you tagged this page for speedy deletion, with the reason "this is clearly a vanity page. AND it doesn't meet criteria for listing companies. see discussion page for futher evidence of it being vanity. please do not remove this tag, use holdon instead.". I have removed the speedy deletion tag, because "this is clearly a vanity page. AND it doesn't meet criteria for listing companies. see discussion page for futher evidence of it being vanity. please do not remove this tag, use holdon instead." is not currently one of our criteria for speedy deletion. If you still want the page to be deleted, please use one of our other processes: WP:PROD or WP:AFD. Thanks. Stifle 13:50, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just to clarify: speedy deletion is only for blatantly obvious cases of vanity, like if a user creates a page about himself, not for deletion of pages that you think don't meet the notability criteria. Those should be prodded (if the deletion is not controversial) or sent to WP:AFD. Fetofs Hello! 14:07, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Vanity is NOT a speedy deletion criteria, period. Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#Articles. --kingboyk 09:16, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Steady with the CSDs

[edit]

Steady with the speedy delete tags there cowboy! :)

  • Last Night's Party - CSD A7 does not apply to websites, only people
  • Johnny Lechner - declined by an admin before, and nothing has changed, so why should I revert what a previous admin has decided?
  • Dick Raper - some Google hits from usually credible sources, so AFD is best

We admins don't have unlimited power to zap articles (if we did, I would certainly have deleted Last Night's Party) and by tagging articles which don't meet the criteria you're wasting your time and mine. Stick a PROD tag on and add it to your watchlist is my suggestion. --kingboyk 09:13, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I wish we were able to speedy delete non notable websites, non notable companies and vanity spam but alas we can't at the moment. PROD is a decent alternative though, a lot of these posters are hit and run merchants. They post their spam and leave... Anyway, see you around, good luck fighting the cruft. --kingboyk 13:35, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Libya stubs

[edit]

Hi! good work on changing over all the libya geo-stubs (i was going to start that today, since theyve now been proposed for a week with no objections). was it just coincidence or have you been keeping watch on the proposals at WP:WSS? whichever, if youd like to join WP:WSS wed be glad to see you there! will do :) BL Lacertae - kiss the lizard 00:53, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A follow-up from another member of WP:WSS - please note that any new stub templates and categories are proposed first at WP:WSS/P for debate for a week or so prior to making them, so that we can iron out any problems and discuss whether they'd really be useful. In this case you made on that had been proposed, but that looks like it was pure chance! Grutness...wha? 05:42, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Crzrussian,

I've relisted the debate for Divei Ilai, there is insufficient consensus for me to make a conclusion for this VfD. Hope you won't mind about it. :)

Riverbend Mall

[edit]

Go ahead and AfD it. It might help set a new precedent on distressed malls. Cheers. youngamerican (talk) 21:44, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, a centralized discussion is where the wikipedia community discusses whats valid for inclusion and what is not. There have been discussions on topics ranging from high schools to bible verses to area codes. There should probably be some criteria for what makes a shopping mall notable, but there isnt really anything yet, save the gut feelings of wikipedians. youngamerican (talk) 22:02, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orr (surname)

[edit]

Thanks for your suggestion. I had actually considered removing the individuals from the disambig page, in contrast to what you've suggested. ChinesePod deletion

[edit]

Hi, I saw you marked my ChinesePod article for deletion. I added some sources attesting to the relevance of the article, so perhaps you could review those and tell me what you think. Thanks!--Daveswagon 02:39, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You mean I should add the reason for removing the tag to the Talk page of the article? I wasn't sure--hence my delay in doing that.--Daveswagon 03:44, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Zdrostvuitye! I saw your name on an AfD, and thought it was awesome. I see from your user page you studied in Yeshiva...where at may I ask? More on that damn mall

[edit]

Well, it looks like we've opened up a big can of worms here. This debate looks like another no consensus that is starting to lack civility on both sides. This is where I am coming from on the need for a centralized policy discussion. Cheers. youngamerican (talk) 19:07, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits to the Gay cruising articles

[edit]

Why have you removed the lists of gay cruising grounds? How do these lists differ, say, fromthe lists of gay neighbourhoods in other articles?

Also, why have you altered the To be written links so that they are no longer links? Exploding Boy 21:30, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. I still don't think your edits were warranted. Wikipedia may not be a "yellow pages," but the lists you removed were not "yellow pages-style" lists. They do not provide directions or recommendations, they provide information, in which they are the same as the countless other lists on Wikipedia, or perhaps a little more encyclopaedic, given that they are contained within articles rather than being free-standing lists. Exploding Boy 21:47, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Divei Ilai

[edit]

you deleted my article about divei ilai and i have no idea why. I thought this to be an encylopedia where everybody can tribute and the more is in it, the better. I don't understand why this was deleted as well as all other articles I liked to this them, like Keresh. Seems to be a nice community of "free knowledge" here. Cuba-geo-stub

[edit]

Thanks for the comments on my exhibition (if you want to see what the paintings look like, have a look here and here. You asked: How can you tell how many Cuba-stubs are out there? You're saying it's close to 65 - did you count them by hand? I bet not. You bet wrong! I counted all the geo-stubs way back about a year ago, and keep a spreadsheet of them which I update every couple of weeks. It simply means checking the handful of new ones in each category every time, so doesn't take much work (the initial count was pretty rough, though). There are ways of doing searches based on a combination of the stub templates and words in the article, but they're not nearly as accurate as doing it the hard way. Re:St. Kilda Nocturne

[edit]

Glad you like it! If you mean Nocturne (prelude), it went for about $600 NZ (that's about $450 US). That one isn't in the exhibition, BTW - it sold late last year. Grutness...wha? 06:44, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mean

[edit]

Dear Crazy Russian,

I'm sorry, Ok? I'm actually a very nice person and not mean at all. But I have a hard time believing you are serious. I mean imagine if everyone formatted their AFD messages any way they wanted,

centered
right justified,

different coloured fonts or text

sizes. Imagine what a mess that would be. Therefore, in my opinion,

centered text

is not very cool for those discussions and since the look (not the content) reminded me of a blog, I put it in my edit summary.

Still friends?-- JJay 18:09, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A8 Copyvio? I agree. So fix it! Doesn't mean that the dude can't have his own little non-copyvio stub. Deletion is not the issue. I happen to think he's NN and I prodded him for it before, but A8 should not result in deletion here, but in So Fix It. I posted {hangon}. Thanks. - the.crazy.russian (T) (C) (E) 19:30, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I listed it at CV and started the rewrite at the temp page. Looks notable to me. The rewrite needs further work to distance our version from the copyrighted website version. A8 was shorter than listing at CV. Anyways, feel free to work on Harvey phillips/Temp. RJFJR 20:52, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
