This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Lomond Roads Cycling Club, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.lomondroadscyclingclub.org.uk/aboutUs.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Lomond Roads Cycling Club requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. CactusWriter (talk) 00:55, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Lomond Roads Cycling Club requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. TeapotgeorgeTalk 09:53, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Group?[edit]

Are you one person or a group? Please see WP:NOSHARE. PamD (talk) 16:33, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pam. Sorry, yes we are a group. Should we delete this account? If so, will that affect the article we created? Cs104group8 (talk) 20:47, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Each of you should set up your own username as an individual, because that's how Wikipedia works. As it says at WP:NOSHARE and the paragraphs just above that section, you can't actually delete an account: just abandon it. (And actually it ought to be blocked as a jointly-used account, if you read WP:NOSHARE). The article you started will not be affected. PamD (talk) 23:04, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see that the article has now been deleted anyway on grounds of non-notability (Criteria for Speedy Deletion A7: "An article about a[n] ... organization (e.g. ... club...), ... that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant."), so you will need to start again. To avoid "speedy deletion" you need to indicate why the club is important or significant (eg "the oldest cycling club in Scotland" or "the club which has provided 90% of the Scottish cyclists for the Commonwealth Games" or "the 2010 winner of the xyz competition", etc - all invented by me as examples. Not just the fact that it exists.) Remember that the subject of an article must be "notable" in Wikipedia's terms. Look at WP:Notability and in this case Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) to see how this is to be accomplished. The main criterion is "significant coverage in reliable independent secondary sources". So your cycling club will qualify if you can cite significant coverage of it in books, newspapers, journal articles, authoritative websites. Is there a book on the history of cycling in Scotland which has a section about it? Or a profile of the club in the local (or preferably a national) newspaper? That's the sort of thing - not necessarily online sources. Not just the club's own website (note "independent"). But as this is a university project you should be capable of finding all this out for yourselves anyway! Good luck. PamD (talk) 23:24, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

University project[edit]

You said on the article's talk page that it was a university project, but as the article and its associated talk page have been deleted you've lost the advice you were given there so I'll repeat it here: make sure that you and your tutor have read Wikipedia:School and university projects and Wikipedia:WikiProject Classroom coordination. Good luck with your editing after this dodgy start. PamD (talk) 07:32, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia offers assistance to instructors, teachers and students, but it is highly recommended that WP:SUP is consulted before the course starts. Your instructor (and you) may want to take a look at various support materials and advice available at that page. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 16:25, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
