Peter Gavin -please take out that I have an OAM and have added some small additions of my overall career[edit]

Hi I do not have the OAM. That was awarded to my father in 1981 because he had been the mayor Of Coburg a few times. He finished his career as mayor on 4 occasions. Someone should write about him. More interesting than I am. I have no idea who wrote the article on me. Please take that section re OAM out and may I suggest the following below. It fills in a little of my career (I could write a few pages, but probably very boring). I have been the secretary of the Melbourne Celtic Club 2000 -2014, the Gladstone Park Tennis Club 1993-1998 and 2003-2008, and Eureka Australia Descendants and Supporters Inc. 2016 -2020 and held other minor position in all those organisations so that is why I was granted their life memberships. Am still the secretary of Eureka Australia Descendants and Supporters Inc.

Regards Peter Gavin (Cultural Heritage Comm (talk) 07:28, 12 October 2020 (UTC))[reply]

He was born in Melbourne to James Murray Gavin and Amy Gullock, both public servants. He attended Catholic schools in Melbourne before studying at La Trobe University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Business Administration. He joined the Labor Party in 1967, and in that capacity was involved in student politics on La Trobe University's Student Representative Council. He worked for the Commonwealth Department of Labour and National Service from 1971 which changed its name to the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations in 1973. He was the secretary of the Joint Consultative Council for the Department from 1976 to 1978. From 1973 to 1974 he was secretary of the Pascoe Vale-West Coburg branch of the Labor Party, and from 1975 to 1978 was founding secretary of the North Coburg-Merlynston branch, becoming its president in 1979. In 1979 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Coburg. In Parliament, he was a member of the Economic and Budget Review Committee from 1982 - 1992 and chaired the Estimates Committee 1990 -1992. For the 1992 election Gavin was forced to move to contest the seat of Tullamarine after Tom Roper, whose seat had been abolished, laid claim to Coburg, as at the time of ALP preselections it was titled Brunswick - the name was changed back to Coburg after the ALP preselections; Gavin was defeated. Gavin worked in many consulting and community jobs post parliament and has been granted life membership of the following: the Victorian ALP, the Melbourne Celtic Club, the Gladstone Park Tennis Club, and Eureka Australia Descendants and Supporters Inc.(Cultural Heritage Comm (talk) 07:28, 12 October 2020 (UTC))[reply]
