"Hi there Cam, I recently joined Wikipedia and only discovered Wikipedia Adoption earlier today. I would dearly love to be adopted and you seem to be my best bet. I'm on Wikipedia every day from around 3:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. Thank you! TopGearFreak (talk) 17:31, 30 October 2008 (UTC)"
Certainly. Cam(Chat) 05:16, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(e/c)Images that have a free license will make it clear that they are free. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/All for a list of public domain and other free content licenses. If it is fair-use, it will be very clear on the page explaining the copyright situation, and there should be a fair-use rationale explaining why this copyrighted image can be used in the article. {{helpme}} I now know that the picture I want to put on my UserPage has a little symbol at the bottom like this (c) . Can I put it on my UserPage? TopGearFreakTalk 18:39, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No. Out of curiosity, which image is this? Hersfold(t/a/c) 18:42, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Copyright symbol - you can't use these pictures on userpages
To clarify, a copyrighted (fair use) image will usually have a red box on it, with a red copyright symbol such as the one at right. Free-licensed pictures, which you can use, will usually have a gray box. There's more information on this at User:Hersfold/Adopt/Copyright if you're interested. Hersfold(t/a/c) 18:48, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, our messages crossed. Usually, images you find online through Google are copyrighted, and can't be used here. In this case, I can almost definitely tell you that image wouldn't be acceptable, because it wouldn't be that difficult to get a freely licensed version of essentially the same thing. {{helpme}} Is there any place on the Internet where I can find pictures that I can put on my userpage? TopGearFreakTalk 19:47, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Wikimedia Commons is a repository of free images, all of which you can easily use on Wikipedia. Hersfold(t/a/c) 19:49, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
{{helpme}} How doI make an archive of my Talk Page? TopGearFreakTalk 18:16, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The most popular automatic method seems to be ClueBot III. It's what I use. Just follow the directions. [ roux ] [x] 18:20, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
{{helpme}} Yesterday I saw a list of Users who were on a Trout Slap list. I can't remember what I typed to find it and would like to look at it again. TopGearFreakTalk 17:52, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, just to let you know, this makes things kind of difficult. If anyone clicks on 'new section' (or '+'), the new section is automatically put at the bottom of the page. And if you're notified about anything by any automated processes, those automatically go at the bottom of the page too. But if you take what I put below, and put it at the top of the page, everything should work fine :) [ roux ] [x] 18:27, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! If you think I've done something awesome and you want to give me a cookie, a barnstar, or any other kind of award, could you please put it on my awards page and not here? Thanks!
Thanks so much for that, Roux. I had thought of that, but I didn't know how to fix it, so I just let it go. :) TopGearFreakTalk 16:49, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. [ roux ] [x] 17:36, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi TGF. I notice you use the {{helpme}} tag a lot, and a lot of the time for things that could be found pretty quickly by visiting the help pages. Or you could get them answered by asking your adopter, which is sort of the point of the adoption program. Nobody's mad at you or anything, it's just that there are probably better ways of getting answers than using {{helpme}} every time. [ roux ] [x] 18:04, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, TopGearFreak. I've seen you around, and I was wondering if you'd like me to "coach" you in a program known as adoption, so I can teach you the basics of editing. If you accept, we can create a sub-page at User:TopGearFreak/Coaching. Cheers, –JuliancoltonTropicalCyclone 19:12, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then, create User talk:TopGearFreak/Archive 1, cut and paste your talk-page contents to that new page, and then you're ready to go. Hope that helps. Cam(Chat) 23:33, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, and welcome to the Novels WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to fiction books often referred to as "Novels".

Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the members, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! —Ed17(Talk / Contribs) 17:54, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
WikiProject Novels • (inc. novellas, novelettes & short stories) Announcements and open tasks
Recently a new worklist had been created and quietly arrived, the Cleanup listing which gives a fairly comprehensive hit list of "novels" related articles that have been tagged for something or other.
Since then a new Article alerts listing has also been added of more topic and "urgent" items worthy of our attention.
I think you can use it, but I am far from an expert on image use rules, so don't quote me on that. [ roux ] [x] 20:05, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
can you recommend someone who is an expert on picture licences? TopGearFreakTalk 20:27, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That was not an insult!! Topgearfreak give him another warning sign! That vandal is getting on my nerves!!--Spittlespat 18:42, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All vandals get on my nerves. Haven't any of them ever heard of a 'history' tab?? TopGearFreakTalk 18:45, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
First of all my edit was not vandalism but a valid content edit. Maybe you disagree with it but that hardly makes it vandalism!
Secondly, placing the warning there was a breach of WP:AGF as my edit was not clearly vandalism, it was insulting to "welcome" an established editor.
Thirdly, restoring it was harassment and calling me vandal here and elsewhere is clearly a violation of WP:NPA.
Summary, if you show up again on my talk page, I will report you. Str1977(talk) 18:49, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
TGF, forgiven and forgotten. In my last posting I addressed the both of you hence the sentences regarding the reverting apply of course only to Spittlespat. Bye, Str1977(talk) 18:58, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Whoah guys! Maybe you should take a look at this. And BTW, don't forget to be civil at all times and with everyone (yep, even vandals). Telling a vandal that they're getting on your nerves is a sure way to enrage him and it'd encourage him to vandalize even more. And anyway, being umm.. 'harsh' with a new editor might scare them away from contributing constructively to Wikipedia in the future. Chamaltalk 13:44, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It has all boiled down now. I saw what I thought was vandalism, reverted it and put a warning on his Talk page. It wasn't bandalism at all, the editor was quite right to delete the warning. Then Spittle reverted it without realising that it shouldn't have been there at all. We are forgiven, anyway. Spittle didn't realise the circumsdances, if he had he wouldn't have said anything and this wouldn't have happened. Let's just forgive and forget. TopGearFreakTalk 15:17, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And I didn't know he was an experienced editor. TopGearFreakTalk 15:19, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for your vandal-fighting work. Just a reminder that vandals often do several vandal-edits in a row, and you should try to get all of them when reverting, otherwise people who watchlist the articles may miss the fact that some of the vandalism hasn't been fixed. Regards, looie496 (talk) 19:04, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yay, I found it, I found it! Look at the message on your hidden page's talk page. I see La Pianista has mentioned the link right here, I should have read that before spending time looking for it. Would have saved me a lot of time :) Chamaltalk 14:35, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the barnstar! You don't need appointments, just walk in any time ;) Chamaltalk 15:10, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you're challenging me to find it, I just need to ask one question, do you have any sub-pages? Reason being is that I can look through them if I can't find it on your mainpage and/or talkage. >:| Blooded Edge (T•C•A) 20:00, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've a bucketload of SubPages, and there are links to all of them. So you don't need to use search. But that's cheating, isn't it? TopGearFreakTalk 21:16, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, I don't use the search bar if that is what you're referring to. Knowing the existance of sub-pages means that if I can't find the link on a particular page, I'll know that you've meticulously hidden it somewhere else. More of a morale-boosting thing really, at least I know its somewhere. Get it? Blooded Edge (T•C•A) 21:36, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. Pianista and Chamal found it, so it's not impossible to find. TopGearFreakTalk 21:37, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK :) Blooded Edge (T•C•A) 22:20, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Thanks for helping my Criticism of Tpo gear page. Do you think it's in a suitable condition to be moved out of a sub page and into it's own article yet? Looneyman (talk) 12:07, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think it's ready. Well done :) TopGearFreakTalk 15:29, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad to see you've improved a lot since you joined just a few weeks ago. I saw you've participated in WP:AFD as well as some other important areas. Though you'll need to learn a tiny bit about !voting (don't say things that make it look like you want to keep an article just because you feel sorry for the creator) you're coming along nicely. Keep it up, and if you manage to impress me (which is very hard btw ;D) you've got a barnstar on the way. Chamaltalk 15:35, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Could you consider changing your vote in the AFD for this entry to redirect. Doing so allows people to easily find the duplicate information in the character list you pointed out and discourages recreation. - Mgm|(talk) 20:21, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello TopGearFreak, I have granted your account rollback in accordance with your request. Please remember that rollback is for reverting vandalism, and that misuse of the tool, either by revert-warring with other users, or simply reverting edits you disagree with, can lead to it being removed. For practice, you may wish to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. Good luck. Acalamari 18:26, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TGF- What may I ask was your motives for reverting my comments in the DISCUSSION page of the Volt WP?? FYI Mr. Locock and I were discussing the merits of certain recent events that may or may not affect the content within the Volt wiki, (as AFAIK that's what the discussion page was/is for) and then to have the gall of posting some sort of rubber-stamp "thanks for crap" comment in my talk page! What gives? In any case Mr.Locock himself has restored my comments and our DISCUSSION continues. If you would like to discuss something regarding the Volt or the Volt WP I suggest you jump in and contribute instead of making arbitrary reverts in the discussion page.WopOnTour (talk) 03:00, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for correcting VILLIAN to VILLAN-however! it was the direct spelling from a 1959 newspaper-that is how they have it spelled.
