Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Crocker Park

[edit]

I added some references from reliable sources to Crocker Park. You may want to revisit Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Crocker Park. You could remove the list of stores, but the list gives a good idea of what type of mall it is. -- Eastmain (talk) 06:07, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

[edit]

Hi Cyclonenim. Just wanted to let you know that I added you to Wikipedia:RD regulars. Hope that's okay. Zain Ebrahim (talk) 15:04, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:MED

[edit]

I'm sorry, I don't do sarcasm well in written form. That was 100% not an insinuation that you were patronizing me, it was a little (failed) attempt at self-deprecating humor (i.e. I really should have thought to look on the project page, but didn't). Thank you for the suggestion, it was exactly what I was asking for. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:34, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coaching

[edit]

Hi there - I've added a few deliberately open-ended questions to your coaching page. Please feel free to take as long as you need to think about the answers you give (there is no 'correct' answer by the way), and let me know when you feel you've completed them. I have the coaching page watchlisted but as my watchlist is pretty congested, it might take awhile to check on your process sometimes; I apologise in advance for this. Lankiveil (speak to me) 04:05, 7 December 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Nothing, it's just that most users don't understand its application. Malinaccier (talk) 21:34, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I've followed up on one of your answers. Note that I'm not very active Mondays and Tuesdays (Brisbane time), but there's a few more follow-ups I'd like to pursue with you later this week. Don't be discouraged, your answers were pretty solid and you seem to know your stuff pretty well, although there is still a little room for fine-tuning. talkback

[edit]

I don't know if you noticed it or not, but I had responded to your query about multiple noms. It can currently be found here---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 07:38, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I left the note was because I moved it to my talk archive and didn't know if you had noticed the move (or watchlisted the archive page.)---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 14:51, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CIVIL reminder

[edit]

This is in regards to this edit you made on Balloonman's talk page. Please remember to be civil and avoid making any rude remarks such as shut up. Your point that follows was pretty convincing and it really was unnecessary to be offensive. Thank you for your cooperation, and happy editing. BlueAg09 (Talk) 15:34, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry if you found it offensive, I was a little cranky since I'd just woken up. I do, however, stand by the fact that sometimes blunt remarks are necessary to prevent further escalation. Both your and Balloonman's remarks were getting increasingly more aggressive and sometimes it takes a brutal hand to put things back on track to where they belong. Thanks for your comment though, and happy editing! —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 19:20, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thankspam

[edit]
Thank you for your participation in my recent RfA, which failed with 61/52/7; whether you supported, opposed or remained neutral.

Special thanks go out to Wizardman and Malinaccier for nominating me, and I will try to take everyone's comments on board.

Thanks again for the trust the community has placed in me. A special Christmas song for you all can be found at the right hand side of this message!

Apologies if you don't like RfA thankspam, this message was delivered by a bot which can't tell whether you want it or not. Feel free to remove it. Dendodge TalkContribs, 17:21, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

new user trying to get a minor change to feature article!

[edit]

only started this a few days ago - how do you suggest a get a minor change on a protected medical page.

I want to simply add a link from the schizophrenia page to my early intervention in psychosis article, and as below

from this

The most widely used form of preventative health care for schizophrenia takes the form of public education campaigns that provide information on risk factors, early detection and early treatment options.[156]

to this

or even the new paragraph as per the schizophrenia discussion

Your DYK

[edit]

Regarding your message at DYK, actually we are still taking all kinds of DYKs; there is a special section for holiday-related ones that we're saving, but most of the page is still general interest DYK (the holiday stuff is just optional). While we do sometimes have holiday-themed stuff, to the best of my knowledge we've never required themed DYKs to the exclusion of everything else. My apologies if this was unclear at the suggestion page; I'll try to see if anything can be done to clarify that we're still accepting all topics (and always will be!). So anyway, you're welcome to nominate anything you like! —Politizer talk/contribs 16:52, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! And, since you did the expansion today, you can post the nomination at the top of the section Articles created/expanded on December 21. The easiest way is to paste in the following code (without a section header or ~~~~ or any of that; just the code below):
{{subst:DYKsug
 | article= Vascular myelopathy
 | expander= Cyclonenim
 | hook = ... that .....?
}}
And then just replace the "....." with whatever you'd like the hook to be (with the main article linked and bolded). We generally have the newest nominations at the top and the oldest at the bottom (with the exception of the special holiday section), and gradually work our way up from the bottom (to get the old ones done with before they expire). Best, —Politizer talk/contribs 16:59, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Haha...that's ok, DYK has been going through a lot of changes lately so it confuses pretty much everyone...especially with this new nominating template we've been starting to use. I'm still working on trying to make it a little more transparent and user-friendly, so if you have any suggestions about what could be improved, what you found confusing, etc., don't hesitate to leave me suggestions! —Politizer talk/contribs 17:06, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(outdent) It's guaranteed that they'll all be checked; the only way a nomination can get removed without being looked at is if we screw up (and if that happens you're more than welcome to put it back). Generally, the vast majority of nominations that get reviewed ultimately make it to the main page; the only times an article doesn't make it are usually when it a) hopelessly fails one of the criteria (for example, if the article is only 500 characters long); b) is totally unreferenced; or c) there's a significant concern about notability, POV disputes, or other concerns that may make it inappropriate for the front page. When articles are close but not quite ready (for example, if it's 100 characters too short, or doesn't have quite enough references) we usually work with the nominator to clean the article up quickly and get it to the main page if possible. So you don't have to worry about your nomination getting deleted without being looked at; it's guaranteed to be looked at, and more likely than not to get put on the main page...it just might take a couple days, especially right now since we're pretty backlogged and don't have as many people as usual reviewing (or, at least, those of us who are reviewing aren't spending as much time as usual). But once we get to it (we generally work from t he bottom up) you can be sure it'll get the attention it deserves :). —Politizer talk/contribs 23:47, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, we're moving pretty slowly right now! Sorry about that, —Politizer talk/contribs 23:53, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, anyone can review nominations at DYK! That's actually how I got started...one of the first times I nominated an article, I was getting antsy for someone to review it, so I just jumped in and reviewed as many of the articles as I could that were in front of mine, hoping that it would get mine reviewed faster. Anyway, you're welcome to join in; we can always use an extra hand! Let me know if you have any questions. —Politizer talk/contribs 00:01, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cyclonenim -- I've closed the AfD for you, as you've formally withdrawn. It's not so much the professorship, though full professors at top-class universities are nearly always kept at AfD, as the fact that citations are the main way to determine whether the academic's work has been built on by the academic community, as explained in WP:PROF. Google Scholar is a quick and dirty substitute for library citation-counting tools which works quite well for recent computer scientists. The number of citations that's considered "high" varies considerably from field to field and between reviews and research papers, but more than 100 is generally considered pretty high. It's important to search on initial(s) eg "S Drossopoulou" as most academic research doesn't include the first name. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 22:12, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I fear the medicine articles here drove me screaming into the hills a couple of years ago. By the way, I'm probably the least clued-up admin of the bunch, but if you're interested in an RfA in the next couple of months, then you might want to be extra careful in bringing articles to AfD. By definition, AfD is for articles where there's likely to be dispute, which means there's always someone who's going to be offended! If you don't already, you might consider hanging out on one of the many deletion sorting lists and trying to rescue a few poor-quality articles on notable topics by expanding & sourcing reliably. Best of luck, Espresso Addict (talk) 20:23, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed you were in Malinaccier's tender hands! The medicine delsort is usually pretty quiet; biographies of medics tend to go on academics & educators, which is usually quite busy. Solsticial greetings, Espresso Addict (talk) 22:15, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stress & stroke

[edit]

You recently posted on the reference desk about the links between chronic stress and stroke. This new study says it may be mostly because of behavioral factors. Thought you'd be interested. Cheers - Draeco (talk) 18:08, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Father Christmas sent me...

[edit]

And now, for Fvasconcellos' traditional nonsectarian holiday greeting!

Wherever you are, and whether you're celebrating something or not, there is always a reason to spread the holiday spirit! So, may you have a great day, and may all your wishes be fulfilled in 2009! Fvasconcellos (t·c) 14:27, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is this a combination of my Christmas greeting from 2006 and my New Year's greeting from last year? Why, it most certainly is! Hey, if it ain't broke...

Merry Christmas!

Citing online sources

[edit]

With regard to Wikipedia:WikiProject_Medicine/Dermatology_task_force/Sources#Citing_online_sources, is this information about citing online sources already posted somewhere else on the medicine project pages? If so, can we simply link to it? kilbad (talk) 16:34, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Vascular myelopathy

[edit]
Updated DYK query On 29 December, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Vascular myelopathy, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Hi Cyclonenim,

I wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about our goal :) I am planning to take on an in depth review of the PPS article in the next couple of days. A brief glance shows it has been vastly improved. Thanks!--DO11.10 (talk) 17:47, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
