Hello, D.Novosibirsk, and welcome to Wikipedia!

Edits on OnePlus

[edit]

Your edits on OnePlus could be more appropriate on OnePlus 5, but make sure you use reliable sources and write from a neutral point of view. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 12:27, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Emir of Wikipedia: Thank you for the welcome and the swift reply! I have edited Wiki before, but I am new as a reg. user. I am a bit familiar with how editing works and I fail to see why my edits to OnePlus page were reverted: 1) Info added was true and relevant. 2) It is also not much different in nature from paragraphs already on there, e.g.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OnePlus#OnePlus_2_software_updates https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OnePlus#OnePlus_2_launch_invite_issue 3) I was trying to be neutral and objective. Maybe the word "weird" is off (this word is from The Verge article), but are there any other issues with objectivity or neutral voice? 4) Sources are well established

@Emir of Wikipedia:: Made a new update where I took your comments into consideration.

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at OnePlus. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:09, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Robert McClenon:. Thank you for letting me know. What exactly is the issue?

Let's look at what happened:

  1. I made an edit, i.e. added some information to OnePlus Wikipedia page.
  2. The edit got reverted, with explanation TW. It is highly unclear how my edit was a twinkle.
  3. I reverted it back (revert #1), because it seemed like a rogue algorithm. Explanation didn't make sense so it seemed to be a misunderstanding.
  4. Emir of Wikipedia, who made the initial revert left a comment on my page.
  5. The comment said that: (a) the information would be more appropriate on OnePlus 5; (b) needs reliable sources; (c) a neutral point of view.
  6. information concerns the company, not individual product, therefore it is appropriate where it was. Furthermore, information of identical nature is already on OnePlus page (b) it had reliable sources and (c) point of view was factual, not opinionated and it was neutral.
  7. I rewrite the text, add new information and take Emir of Wikipedia comments into account.
  8. The edit gets reverted again, with no explanation whatshowever and I now receive a warning.

So, once again, what exactly is the problem?

Talk:OnePlus

[edit]

The changes you made to the article deleted text that had been replied to by others and messages that had been left by others. As a result, I have restored the discussion. —C.Fred (talk) 20:01, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The very same users are who replied in the old version are tagged in the new version. Seriously, 7 paragraphs to answer one question is illogical and unnecessarily complicated. Therefore, I changed 7 paragraphs to two:

  • suggested change
  • question to other users

We need to answer if the suggested changes can be approved. Two paragraphs are much more suited for that. Please revert back to the newer version :)

D.Novosibirsk (talk) 20:04, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@C.Fred:, what's the best way to get others' input/opinions on suggested changes? This is about OnePlus page. I would like other users to greenlight the suggestions or show why they should not be included (or should be edited).
