Not a problem. It is better, though, to get someone else to do edits that involve your personal research. I did look over the one article at greater depth, and felt that at least your prose and ability to communicate was superior to what was there, however, because of the strong presence of spammers on Wikipedia, I felt, as I explained in the edit, that it was necessary to just revert it. Done my best, any further assistance, welcome! DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 02:14, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello, DASonnenfeld, I saw that you have recently made some worthy contributions to Marshall's article. Would you happen to have a third party source for these edits? Since the article is Featured, it is important that it retains its high quality; providing reliable sources for newly added information is therefore essential. Any help you can provide on this front would be greatly appreciated, as otherwise the information may be removed by someone who suspects it untrustworthy. Thanks! María (habla conmigo) 21:03, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Done, thanks! DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 02:13, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

SUNY-ESF/ Bob Marshall

Hi, DA Sonnenfeld, you're quite welcome. Hopefully the collection of anonymous IPs will want to discuss their additions before they revert to their messier version of the section. If not, the next step may be WP:ANI, which I admittedly have little experience with. I also know very little about the college, and am only familiar with it because of the research I've done for Bob Marshall's article, so I'm afraid I won't be much help if it's decided a separate article needs to be created. Still, I'll keep my eye on the main article to make sure that it doesn't degenerate. Thanks for your recent additions to Marshall's article, by the way! I'm glad to see others take an interest in such an important figure. :) María (habla conmigo) 17:53, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

  • Pleasure; Bob Marshall was a fascinating man who accomplished so much in his time. The several books that have been written about him to date, as interesting as they are, have just begun to tell his story.DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 09:24, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Louis Marshall

I'm afraid I'm not getting through to them. I'd actually removed the article from my watchlist, which is a shame, because with a little work it may actually be good enough for Good Article-status. How frustrating that they won't discuss anything! Ah, well, I'll keep my eye on it. María (habla conmigo) 13:22, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

It would seem that the warning message on the most recent IP's talk page is actually from four years ago; I'm guessing that it's affiliated with some sort of public area, like a school network, where people tend to log in and simply vandalize. The problem is, while the user clearly doesn't understand why their edits are being removed, or largely altered, they refuse to communicate. If they refuse to communicate, then dispute resolution steps such as WP:AN3 and WP:ANI will be of little use. Because they use a variety of IP addresses, it will be difficult to block them if they are found to be disruptive, because they can always find a new address. In short, I'm not sure what to do either; I also don't want the page(s) protected (which is what I think you mean by "frozen"), especially since that's usually a tactic taken to force users to discuss their issues rather than edit war... but that takes me back to my original point re: their inability to communicate. *sigh* I'll see if I can find an admin to maybe dish out some advice. María (habla conmigo) 14:18, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Okay, some progress has been made. The marvelous Moni3, who coincidentally has experience writing conservation-related articles, has semi-protected Marshall's article for two weeks. This means that anonymous IPs cannot edit in the meantime, but established editors like you and I can. While it may not hinder the obvious passion the anon IP has for the subject matter, it may teach them a lesson in the fine arts of communication and collaborative editing. Now may be a great time to fix up Marshall's article and remove previous superfluous additions. If needed, we can also semi-protect The History of NYSCF article in the same way. Let me know what you think, María (habla conmigo) 16:47, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Sociology Newsletter: II (April 2010)

Sociology ProjectNews • April 2010

The Sociology WikiProject is conducting a roll call (or min-census, if you prefer). More then five years down the road, we have over 50 members, but we don't know how many of them are still active in the sociology area. If you are or want to become once again an active contributor to the sociology content on Wikipedia, please move your name from the inactive to the active list on our roll call.

In other news, we have reactivated the newsletter :) At least, for this announcement. We also have a new, automated to do listing, an active tag and assess project (which has identified about 1,800 sociology articles on Wikipedia, and assessed about 1,3000 of them), and three new userboxes for your self-identification pleasure :) On a final note, I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Sociology page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions.

You have received this newsletter because you are listed as a participant at WikiProject Sociology. • signed Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 18:40, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
