Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Dear DA Tardis: welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user talk (discussion) page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. A third option is to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator.

One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD!   - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 20:19, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

{{help me}}

Is it okay to add a picture?

That depends on the copyright licence of the picture. Wikipedia can only accept images (and text, for that matter, but it comes up less often) which are licenced under a free use licence (except in some special cases). If you're adding a picture that you own the copyright to (for instance, one you made yourself), you can licence it in a way that Wikipedia can use by selecting one of the self-made licences on the 'upload file' form; if you don't own the copyright and you don't know the licence, it probably isn't a legally usable image. See Wikipedia:Uploading images and Wikipedia:Image tutorial for more information. --ais523 13:30, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Brother[edit]

Hello, I've justed added that we're brothers to your user page. Lradrama 13:08, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Userboxes[edit]

  • First of all, read mine at Lradrama.
  • Then, go to Wikipedia:User boxes.
  • In the pale blue contents box, select Gallery.
  • There you'll find different sections relating to different types of userboxes; sift through them at leisure.
  • You'll see that the example user box is listed at the right hand side of things, with the code in the {{ }} brackets to the left.
  • Highlight the code using the left mouse button, and right click and select COPY.
  • Go to your userpage, edit, go under one of your existing user boxes (not userbox bottom) and paste it (Edit - Paste). Repeat and repeat and repeat. Lradrama 10:06, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User page content[edit]

I know I seem a real kill-joy in saying this, but if you read Wikipedia:Userpages, you'll find that excessive amounts on non-Wikipedia related material is frowned upon. You've got rather a lot of stuff that isn't Wikipedia-related, so I'll advise you not to put any more on.

I know I myself have some stuff on about me, but I'm not going to add any more, and what's there may well get condensed in the not-too-distant future.

Just thought I'd point that out before people come knocking... Lradrama 18:09, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've got rid of some 'excessive non-Wikipedia related information' off my user page now. Lradrama 19:53, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dalek Television Section[edit]

Hi, I have removed the Television section, because there is a set of links at the bottom of page which leads to all of televised or yet to be televised dalek stories. You should be able to see it, if you can't, click on the "show" button. Glenn Browne 18:11, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the section. As seen as it was closed up, I didn't notice the 'Television Appearances' section. Woops!!! Thankyou for notifying me!DA Tardis 18:57, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The funnyman's barnstar................[edit]

The Barnstar of Good Humor
Despite the fact you get some of your edits deleted, and you wonder why, you keep the good humour up (see the Talk:Cyberman page). Keep this up! Lradrama 19:14, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Response[edit]

I suppose the Cyberman TV section has to go, but I personally don't won't to get into a mess with other editors, wondering what the deletion was all for. Also I'm not a main contributor to the Cyberman article. That's really all I can say for the time being. Glenn Browne 18:03, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seen as no-one else is taking note of your question, delete it and explain why - make sure you give valid reasons, and don't start a war! Lradrama 18:17, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New article guidelines[edit]

Well done for deciding to create a new article on Wikipedia and well done even more for decidng to do it on a sandbox of your first. This is good because it won't get frowned upon before you've finished it ;-) .

Here's how I'd go about the creation of it:

  • make a template stating the sections that are going to feature in the article
  • Start on the easiest sections to complete to save time. If you do a lot of work and decide it doesn't fit it'll be tugging one's hair out time...
  • Leave the introduction till last - this is meant to be a summary of the whole article.
  • I'll tell you about references and external links after that.
  • Enjoy yourself! Lradrama 17:46, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Before you start, take a look at other articles on Doctor Who monters to see what sort of headings they have - your article should preferably follow similar formats to other articles.

DON'T copy text from the internet, books, CD Roms, TV or film transcripts because this violates copyright and the text will be deleted, which will be an almighty shame. Good luck. Lradrama 18:37, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here are some headings that should be used in your article, and in the order they should appear. And this time, TAKE NOTE
  • Physical appearance
  • Technology (e.g. weapons)
  • History (as character)
  • Appearances within Doctor Who
  • Other appearances?
  • Merchandising (toys / computer games)
Like I've said before, look at other articles to see what the content is like. You also might want a 'see also' section and you must have references and external links, which I'll explain later. Make sure you follow my advice. Lradrama 09:43, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: (User talk:ais523) Secret Subpages[edit]

For the record, yes, it is possible (and at least one Wikipedia user has done so). However, such activity tends to detract from encyclopedia-building; one former secret page was successfully deleted at Miscellany for deletion (the reason was that as the MfD had happened, the page wasn't secret any more). Also, it wouldn't be a good idea to tell you how on a publically-visible User talk page, even if I was going to tell you how. If you want a clue, though, think about one of the reasons why WP:CSD#U2 exists. --ais523 08:16, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

I am thinking of starting a 'blackburn corporation electric tramways' page in my sandbox. I want to upload a picture of one of the MILNES 35-75 CLASS trams on the page. the only pictures are on websites and in books, and no self created images are available. Is that a valid reason for uploading a copyright image, or do I have to get permission or what? Advise most helpful DA Tardis (talk) 16:00, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible but your situation probably does not meet the requirements. See WP:NFC for more info. GtstrickyTalk or C 16:04, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
