Request for opinion[edit]

Hi DGaxiola: Sorry to trouble you, but I could not help but notice your expression of affection for TOS on the Wikipedians who like Star Trek: The Original Series page, and so I would be curious of your thoughts on the notability of a Star Trek author for whom I just created a Wikipedia article -- which may be promptly destined for the trash pile. As a newcomer here at Wikipedia, my first article attempt was indeed recommended for deletion within hours of its creation by a senior user named JzG who seems to me to be overly hostile and dismissive of Star Trek, calling it fancruft (= trivial, obscure, of importance to just a tiny group of fanatics) . Since you are a Trek fan, if it is also your good faith opinion that my subject is in no way deserving of an article on this site; and you could let me know, I would feel much more comfortable with the justice of the pending deletion action. My proposed article may be seen here, assuming you visit the page soon enough ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Gurian Kind Regards. Tosresearcher (talk) 05:23, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tosresearcher: I looked at the article about Gerald Gurian and I'm not sure it warrants inclusion. While I don't agree with the fancruft statement, I think it would be much better to have an article about the To Boldly Go book series as that is what most people will be interested in at this time. The first paragraph focuses on that in any case and could be expanded / sectioned for a dedicated article which would meet the notability guidelines. Also, it would fit well in the existing Category:Star_Trek_reference_books list and List_of_Star_Trek_reference_books page. A short bio on Gerald could be included in the To Boldly Go article, I would think. CoachOta (talk) 06:58, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
