Space Mountain

Hi ... I wanted to let you know that your recent changes to Space Mountain (Magic Kingdom) were undone. Rumor websites, such as Screamscape (a website I read often, myself), are not considered reliable for the purposes of Wikipedia. On the occasion when Screamscape includes a link to a newspaper or similar website, then that particular information could be used for an article, provided the link to the reliable site is used for the citation. I believe you're working in good faith, so don't consider this a warning or anything like that. St. Peter's Basilica

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to St. Peter's Basilica, without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. We have some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. There was no discussion to move the page and "New St. Peter's Basilica" is neither a widely used name nor the actual name. London Underground

Please don't alter London Underground historic railway names to modern line names - the line names were only used from the mid-1930s onward, so are quite unsuitable when discussing earlier events. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:54, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Couple of other things. As per Wikipedia:TIES and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (spelling) the UK style of spelling should be used. Changing it to the US style will get some editors very upset, even it's done by accident. Also if you look at Category:London Underground lines you will see that for whatever reason they all use the small line rather than the capital Line. Not sure why but there is probably a discussion on it somewhere. Enter CBW, waits for audience applause, not a sausage. 22:50, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Station name changes reverted

I have reverted your recent changes to New York City Subway station article names, as they contravene the naming convention.

Most distressingly, I see that several other editors have pointed out this convention before, and you seem to keep renaming articles in spite of that, without first proposing the change or seeking input from your fellow editors.

In addition, I see that others have pointed out that we use en-dashes, not pure hyphens, and you seem to be ignoring that too. It would be nice if you could channel your obvious enthusiasm without running afoul of established editing conventions.

Renaming a station article name, and doing it correctly, takes a lot of work. You not only need to change the article name itself; you have to find all the places that referred to it by the former name, and change them too. You also need to correct all of the double-redirects that rae created. This is one of the many reasons why this should only be done when there is a clear consensus in favor of it. Mansion House

What is the reasoning behind this edit? It screws up the routeboxes for the District on station articles such as Windsor, Slough, Langley, etc. all the way to West Ealing. At the time that the District ran a service west of Ealing Broadway, those services went no further east than Mansion House, and their other services went no further east than Whitechapel - so no way should Upminster be shown, and High Street Ken is highly dubious. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:24, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Windsor

Following on from the above: why this change, and this one? At the time that the District ran to that station (1883-85), it was named plain "Windsor". It became "Windsor & Eton" in 1904, after District services had ceased, and didn't become "Windsor & Eton Central" until 1949. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:30, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Just a warning: Unfortunately, the articles Mr. Monk and the Astronaut and Mr. Monk Gets Hypnotized is up for deletion, due to the fact that they not very notable. I think they can be saved, if a "Reception" section and possibly a "Production" section are added. Unfortunately, I don't have much time this week. Individual Monk Articles

I believe that Monk, and every other show, should have an article for every episode. House, The Office, Seinfeld, and many others do. Unfortunately, for some reason, not all shows are allowed to. (I understand the notability rules, but come on, not every single episode of House is that memorable). Anyway, I like the idea of making more articles for Monk, we just need to figure out which ones are worth attempting. I've seen every episode of the show at least 4 times (no joke), so I can help a lot with the process if you'd like me to. These are the ones I think would not be immediately marked for deletion:

Of the above, a few of them would probably get deleted, but probably not all of them. Unfortunately, some episodes you specified (such as Mr. Monk Is On the Air) probably wouldn't make the cut. Just because an episode has a unique connection to another star (Tony Shalhoub and Steven Weber on Wings) doesn't mean it's notable (though I still argue that every episode deserves an article).

The most important thing with all of this is establishing notability. If we can show multiple critics' views on this, and show that people will still remember the episodes, the articles will be fine. Most of those sound good. In any that we do, we have to add a Reception section. A Production section would be very useful too, if we can find anything on it. I suggest we start the articles in our Userspace, that way people don't delete them while we're working on them. (If you don't know how, you just start an article called, for example, User:DReifGalaxyM31/Mr. Monk and the Panic Room.) I guess we can just split them down the middle. Since there are more notable episodes in recent years, how about you take Seasons 1-5 and I'll take 6-8? Kevinbrogers (talk) 23:37, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I've looked over User:DReifGalaxyM31/Mr. Monk and the Panic Room. It's looking good so far, and I've made a couple minor changes. A couple things I want to clear up, though: 1) When listing episode titles, do we italicize or put in quotes? I honestly don't know. I've always done italics. And, if quotes, does a comma go inside them or outside? 2) When creating redirect pages (if we ever need to), let's always put #REDIRECT [[Monk (season 1)#ep1]] with the numbers replaced (this way, it will redirect to the episode description). 3) Let's try to keep the plotlines shorter than a few paragraphs. Too much description can kind of get hard to read. 4) If possible, I'd like to put a picture on each article. I can do it later if you'd like me to. I think that's everything... keep up the good work. I'll get started on "Biggest Fan" later on. I'll file my articles under User:Kevinbrogers/Sandbox/Monk articles once I get started. I've also made a template page HERE to help out. When you get there, click on the "Edit" tab and copy and paste the contents into a new page. I created the season articles with the links because we were talking about doing that on some other discussion page. I had to go somewhere and I wasn't done yet, so that's why I created them in the Sandbox. Also, I voted "delete" on the nominated articles because those particular episodes aren't very notable, and they were just plot. As far as "Mr. Monk and the Astronaut" and "Mr. Monk Goes to the Dentist", I didn't know those were up for deletion. The only ones I voted "delete" on were "Mr. Monk Goes to the Carnival", "Mr. Monk Goes To The Asylum" (memorable, but nothing more than plot on the article), and "Mr. Monk And The Billionaire Mugger". I'd be willing to change my vote on "Asylum" if more is added to the article, though. Kevinbrogers (talk) 22:49, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Also, something that was said at the "Billionaire Mugger" discussion inspired me. It seems that it is possible to create an article for every single episode, as long as it is well sourced and has Reception and Production sections. Shows such as "Family Guy" (see this episode) and "The Office" (see this episode) have articles for every episode, even though some aren't that memorable. Apparently, even if they aren't memorable, they can still be proved notable. "House" is another show with an article for every episode, but doesn't have anything but plot on some of them (see this episode). However, there was a "scare" a few weeks ago in which someone deleted every article. Anyway, it appears that it doesn't matter if people remember it, it's just that people saw it in the first place. I think we can create an article for every episode, but we have to put a lot of work into it. Kevinbrogers (talk) 23:05, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Most articles are only a lengthy plot summary. Someone found them and deleted them all without even a discussion. (S)he was attacked by several other editors who apparently love House, and they put them all back up. Kevinbrogers (talk) 23:10, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
I'm considering adding IMDB links for each episode. "Mr. Monk Goes to the Dentist" will be the first one I do that on. And another thing, consider adding season articles with external links for seasons 5-8, if you haven't done those already. DReifGalaxyM31 (talk) 23:13, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Station moves

Just a note. Stratford station is sometimes Stratford Regional so the move was okay i guess. With stations such as West Hampstead Thameslink and City Thameslink, Thameslink is actually part of their names and have not been added on here just to distinguish between services. When making future page moves with railway stations which is rather contested, unless official name changes have been announced or there is consensus within the community, could you please leave a note on the article talk page, WT:TWP or WT:UKRAIL on the move? Why so angry? WP:ILIKEIT is true, but if notability can be established, it should be kept. That was my reasoning on voting "Keep" for that article. em-dash spacing

Hi,

With regard to your changes to the 12 Angry Men (1957 film) article, I see that you have added spacing around the em-dashes used. For future reference, you should be aware that the Wikipedia Manual of Style entry on en- and em-dashes states that only en-dashes should have surrounding spaces – like this – but that em-dashes should be flush—like this—to the preceding and following words.

Monk book plots

Hi. I've been looking at you extensive work on the Monk books. Could I suggest a few things?

  • You should read this essay on plots. It's not a guideline, but it has sound advice about plot summaries. The plot summaries on the Monk books are really way too long, and go into every single event in a way that swamp the rest of the article. Really, if you were to read these summaries all the way through there would be no point to reading the book. So you have to ask, who's going to read them? Those who do want to read the book won't want to, as it will ruin the book for them. Those who don't want to read the book won't want to, as they are far too detailed. Those who have read the book don't need reminded of all these details.
  • These articles really need cites to verify what is being said on them. Particularly when it comes to the content that adds analysis or commentary. The article are generally lacking any kind of cites, and too much of the articles are unverifiable in a way that makes it appear to be primarily original research.
  • The various "Notes", "Goofs", "Allusions", "Additional facts", "Similarities and differences" sections are, on the other hand, almost certainly all original research. It's core policy that Wikipedia does not record original research. They also appear to be mostly material of interest only to hardcore fans and should really be on a fan website, not Wikipedia.
  • The "Author" section at the end is non-standard and unnecessary. There's a link to the author in the lead.

I have stopped by, coincidentally wanting to make the same points as above.
This is a general encyclopedia, not a Monk fansite. Plot summaries this detailed belong there, not here.
You have to be judicious. A summary of War and Peace is never going to be a substitute for reading War and Peace. Not every item needs to be noted.
A plot involves several parallel subplots. Isolate those, and touch on key events along those threads. That is all that's required.
Interested parties are always free to watch the episodes.
The points above about OR, trivia, cruft, they are all valid.
Many editors here are of the slash and burn variety.
If the articles were more modest and manageable with better documentation (TV Guide?) then there is a greater likelihood for survival.
I hope that is plain enough.

NYCS Temporary Construction Templates

Please do not create construction service templates for the New York City Subway like this one. They are absolutely unnecessary since the construction is temporary and only affects 1-2 stations. This is the third time I have nominated a template you created for deletion and it will likely be deleted. We only create templates for normal service. If you want to know how to edit subway station infoboxes to display temporary closures or changes, take a look at what User:Acps110 did to Carroll Street and Fourth Avenue / Ninth Street. Re: Monk

I've noticed many of the articles are, sadly, disappearing. I'll look for sources on existing articles soon. Usually what I do is go to Google and do an advanced search for the episode name and then narrow it down to "News" and then even further by searching only for articles published within a week of the episode's first airing. This gives all news articles a week before and a week after the episode airs, and gives guest star casting sources, a few sources on production, and various sources on reviews and the number of viewers.

I hope this helps, and I should be able to find enough free time in the near future to help out a little more. I haven't had much time lately to make many major edits, unfortunately. Kevinbrogers (talk) 01:13, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Plot summaries

Hi there,

I see this had been pointed out to you in the past, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that WP:TVPLOT asks that plot summaries on TV episode articles be between 200 and 500 words long. If a plot summary is too long and detailed, it can risk being a copyright violation of the original work.

You recently extended the plot summary on "A Study in Pink" from being slightly too long (890 words) to much too long (4,019 words). I have reverted your extensions to that and the other two Sherlock episode plot summaries. Improving plot summaries is great, but please do so without extending their length, especially to such a radical degree.

I'm sorry, but we need secondary sources for things such as filming locations, even if you recognize a given location, and the source cited at the end of the passage does not support the material you added. Please stop adding unsourced material to the Gotham City article. While the sources you cited do contain some of the information you added, much of the material is not mentioned at all by them. They make no mention of "undisguised New York City Subway station entrances"; the bridges that are destroyed by Bane's explosives or which are added digitally; Fifth Avenue as the location of rich Gothamites dragged from their apartments (the source says Park Avenue around 84th Street); or the use of the NLR tunnels for the shots of policemen entering the sewers.
In addition, consecutive citations of the same source in the same paragraph is overkill. If consecutive sentences in a paragraph are all supported by the same source, then one citation of it at the end of the last one is sufficient. We don't need an individual citation for each sentence.
Lastly, remember when using citation templates that certain values in the template must be filled in, or they will result in citation errors, like the one seen at the bottom of this section, which was caused by not including the source title. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 10:12, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
