@DWBarbour just realised we already had a discussion about this back in September! Sorry for not remembering.
I do think this article may work, it's just the referencing now that is off. We need in-line citations; that is a hard requirement for biographies of living people.
If you're having trouble, let me know and I'll try and help. Qcne (talk) 21:55, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@DWBarbour I've just had another look and I think you're having real trouble with the referencing, which is where you're stumbling on this draft and the other two drafts on this person.
I am going to take some time to try and fix up the referencing for you, if you don't mind? It'll likely be over the course of this week, but I'll let you know when I am done.
Again, any questions at all just click Reply here. Qcne (talk) 22:01, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for offering to help. I've seen the in-line referencing. Am I correct that I need to provide a clickable link for each of the references included in the piece? If that's the case, I think I can do that. DWBarbour (talk) 22:22, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you can help me, that would be terrific. Can you let me know what I should do next? Thanks DWBarbour (talk) 22:25, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

David Young draft improvements

[edit]

Hi @DWBarbour, I thought I'd make a new topic here to discuss my changes to Draft:David_Young_(poet).

Notability

[edit]

David does merit an article on Wikipedia. His notability is not in doubt as he easily passes our WP:NACADEMIC criteria. The issue is now getting the draft up to scratch so it is ready for publication. I want to help you with that (even if it means doing most of the editing myself!)

Formatting

[edit]

I have firstly gone through and made some formatting changes: adding bullets throughout, proper headings, and links to existing wikipedia articles.

Citations needed

[edit]

Now onto the referencing which is going to be the biggest challenge. Firstly, I've added little Citation needed tags throughout the draft where I feel we need a citation that backs up the statement. As I said previously this is a hard requirement for biographies. I have added quite a lot, so it may look a little overwhelming at first - but you can repeat references if a single source can hit multiple statements, and as David is inherently notable we can use primary sources for quite a lot of the statements.

The biggest amount of citation needed tags is the Awards section, which only has a couple of citations. Unfortunately we do need a citation for every award, or you could just remove the awards without citations.

The existing references

[edit]

For the existing 12 references you have provided, could you please supply me URLs if they are online references, or ISBN numbers if they are books. You can drop them as a reply here, and I can then format them properly onto the draft.

Next Steps

[edit]

1) If you have any new references for any of the citations needed tags, let me know here by providing a full URL or ISBN number, etc.

2) Get me the full URLs etc and of the existing 12 references.

3) I will create proper in-line citations and add any references to replace any citation needed tags. I'm a little busy this week but will endeavour to drop in in the evenings (UK time) to have a look at this draft and make improvements.

Again, let me know here if you have any questions! Qcne (talk) 22:36, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll have to pull them together and send them ASAP. DWBarbour (talk) 23:00, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @DWBarbour, sorry for the delay in replying. Been a busy week for me in real life. I will have a look at these this evening for you my time. :) Qcne (talk) 14:45, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I am eternally grateful. 173.52.223.33 (talk) 16:15, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@DWBarbour great, I've added all those citations in properly now - other than #9 where you have copy and pasted Mahjong classic! Would you mind giving me the correct link? :)
Now we just need to sort out the citation needed tags. I've gone ahead and done my own research and added a bunch where relevant. The ones missing are a lot of the Awards, the full date of birth, the early education (you can use a primary source for these).
I also have a who said tag to what people feel the poetry is: if this is a direct quote from somewhere we just need to link it. Qcne (talk) 18:18, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my God, I'm sorry about that. Here is number 9

I'll take a look at the rest. Thanks! DWBarbour (talk) 17:32, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, its no bother. I enjoy Mahjong. Let me know if you can get sources for the rest of the bits, and I can add them if so, and then I think its about ready for publication. Qcne (talk) 17:44, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there. Sorry for the delayed reply. My life has been way too crazy. I have the additional citations for the David Young entry. Here they are. If you need additional explication, or if they don't work, let me know and I'll look for additional supporting references. Again, thanks so much for your assistance:
