One good way to organize userboxes so you don't get them jumbled up is to keep spaces between them, and you might even want to keep the {{userboxtop}} and {{userboxbottom}} tags unsubsted so it's clear where the userboxes begin and end. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 16:22, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

How do you create links to other pages, easy! Just put two square brackets on each side like this [[User talk:Glen S]] - that comes out User talk:Glen S! These are called wikilinks. If it is a link outside Wikipedia use one square bracket on each side and list the whole URL like [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Glen_S] which comes out [1]! (Note even tho I linked to the same page here, you can put any website in between the brackets :) Note, if that a wikilink is red like User talk:Glen S/Red link --> it means it hasnt been created yet. To do that, just press the red link, and hit edit at the top! Simple!

Okay! Basically, to help get you settled in, I've added a few links that you might find useful. Here are some policy pages all about how things work here (yes they are a bit boring but they'll really help you!)

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

Here's a couple of more fun places for new users to start:

Esperanza - an awesome group of really friendly editors (like me!) :)
The Welcoming committee - good chance to meet new users like yourself
Wikipedia:Department of Fun - name says it all!

"Popping up"[edit]

Hi again -- when you say, "how do I get a new page to pop up", do you mean in a new window? Because I'm really not sure how to do that on here, if it's even possible. In regular HTML, you would use a target tag like so:

uhhh- gues who had a fun afternoon with all their bobbleheads. Hi - could you please tone down your signature a few nothches? At the moment, it is far too long and garish, and in mulitple violations of WP:SIG. Please will you sort this out - it's an annoying waste of space for many users, when you can be just as contactable (infact, more contactable) using a simple sig. If you are to lazzy to look through the article, here is where I feel the violation is.

Your signature should not blink, or otherwise inconvenience or be annoying to other editors.

Markup such as <big> tags (which produce big text), or line breaks ( tags) are to be avoided, since they disrupt the way that surrounding text displays
Be sparing with superscript or subscript. In some cases, this type of script can also affect the way that surrounding text is displayed
Avoid making your signature so small that it is difficult to read
In consideration of users with vision problems, be sparing with color. If you must use different colors in your signature, please ensure that the result will be readable by people with color blindness.
