It's the 4th of September, and I've just submitted my first post. It's possible it will also be my first post to be deleted, since it's pretty close to the fringe of medical advice. I'm hoping that there's enough of a difference in asking how to make a decision, rather than asking for the decision itself, that it can stand. --DaHorsesMouth (talk) 23:53, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your kid's schedule

[edit]

I thought this would get lost in all the other conversation, so I'm posting it here...

That is the craziest school schedule I have ever seen! It's a good thing your kid is in school. They need an education just to figure out what class they should be in from minute to minute! Dismas|(talk) 04:52, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I posted my reply on my talkpage. — Kpalion(talk) 10:24, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see that looking at your SUL entry, the German Wikipedia account is still showing as "unattached" - but at least your English Wikipedia account is showing as "Account created here". May I suggest that you contact meta at the link I provided on the Help Page to ask about the problem with the German Wikipedia?

If you find a solution, I'd be grateful if you'd let me know, for future reference! Also, how did you get it changed from "???" on the English Wikipedia status to "Account created here"?

Honestly, I didn't DO anything myself. I intended to, but before I could write it up my home computer caught the worst virus I've ever encountered, and thus I've been offline for most of last week.
So, if something actually changed in that timeframe, it's not my fault :-)

Steve: There is motion, but I'm not sure if it's progress or not. (For details, please look at this Unified Login help.)
Apparently, I /did/ create a login on dewiki back in 2008, before all this unified login stuff got into production. So, I pushed the button for a Password Reset (on dewiki), and I got the resulting email. Then, I reset the password in both places (dewiki and enwiki), but I still can't autologin to dewiki.
  • Does this bring us back to more familiar territory for you?
  • Is it possible that unified login simply doesn't work for dewiki?
Thanks, DaHorsesMouth (talk) 03:38, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still stumped! I can't remember if I advised this (I don't think I did), but as well as asking on meta like you did, you could also ask on de:Wikipedia:Fragen zur Wikipedia which is the German Wikipedia's Help Desk - although you'll have to leave you query in German! - or de:Wikipedia:Fragen von Neulingen which is their New Contributors' Help Page. Also, keep an eye on the meta query, as someone might still reply there - I don't think it's as regularly patrolled as the Wikipedias' Help Desks. Sorry I can't be more help - but do let me know if (when!) you get an answer! -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 08:12, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SOLVED! What was finally necessary was:

  1. Log in to enwiki
  2. Log in to dewiki (simultaneously -- new tab or whatever)
  3. FROM dewiki, navigate to Spezial:MergeAccount, the German equivalent of Special:MergeAccount.

At that point, dewiki recognises that you have an unattached global login, and prompts for the last step in the process.

Something to do with some combination of (1) having a pre-2009 username (2) with a non-matching password (3) on a site where my user page had been deleted. The business with sending myself an email may have been helpful too? Your guess is as good as mine! DaHorsesMouth (talk) 21:52, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you got it sorted! I'm thinking it is most likely to be the non-matching password, myself - the MergeAccount couldn't connect to your German account for verification if it didn't have the password! Anyway, it's sorted out - the SUL utility shows that you are unified! -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 22:27, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the kind words....

I appreciated your comment on my talk page. In my travels through the reference desk (I try to read through it once a day), there aren't many Latter-day Saints ("Mormons") that post regularly, so I feel like I can bring a unique perspective to some of the questions. I try my best to sound tolerant, polite, and intelligent. If you ever have any questions about the LDS Church, I'd love the chance to take a whack. Thanks again, and have a great day!
