Thanks

Thanks for attention in an article Corbin Bleu. But, Can you put this picture in 2012, in the Infobox. Thank you! --77.31.83.202 (talk) 00:07, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Not a problem, glad to help. Also changed up that picture too since it's more recent and both were essentially headshots. Cheers! — -dainomite   00:11, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

U1 deletion

Hi, I deleted the user subpage, but the talk page for that subpage (User talk:Dainomite/United States Air Force Special Tactics Officer) was not tagged for deletion. Would you like this deleted as well? Best, SpencerT♦C 05:11, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

@Spencer: Oh shoot, yes please if you would be so kind. Thank you very much for hastily responding to the delete request. Cheers, — -dainomite   05:13, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Military history coordinator election

Greetings from WikiProject Military history! As a member of the project, you are invited to take part in our annual project coordinator election, which will determine our coordinators for the next twelve months. If you wish to cast a vote, please do so on the election page by 23:59 (UTC) on 28 September! Kirill [talk] 16:20, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

Archive.is

On this, see the current ANI discussion. The archiving link was added by an unauthorized bot over an open proxy. I personally have no problem with you reinstating it, but have a look at the discussion, in case you were wondering what the hell my recent contributions were all about. :) Drmies (talk) 18:06, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Yeah I was guessing that you did a mass rollback or some such, no worries. I've seen a ton of these IPs adding archive.is to USAF articles over the past couple days and thought it was strange but I figured since it was adding archive links it wasn't bad. But that's tough when an unauthorized bot adds at-a-glance useful additions of archive URL links. :3 Thanks for the hasty explanation though Drmies! Cheers, — -dainomite   18:11, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
Sure thing. I tried listening to this during the rollback, but it was too much too handle for my computer, having dozens of rollback screens opening up at the same time. Drmies (talk) 18:13, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
Holy toledo that link is nifty Drmies. I see from that AN/I discussion that people are pretty unhappy about what happened. Is the issue at hand that someone did this using an unapproved bot despite most of the edits appearing to be useful additions of archive.is? — -dainomite   18:17, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes, that's pretty much what it is. I can't speak for Kww, but it seems to me that an archive link, as useful as it is, is also an ad for the archiving company--stands to reason, if one thinks of it as a useful service. Linking that hundreds or thousands of times increases the footprint, and at some point service turns into advertisement. In addition, it appears to have been via open proxies, which is a no-no, and the "original" linker was blocked for running an unapproved bot adding those links. So it's first of all the methods that are the problem here; again, I can't speak for Kevin, but I think he'd agree with that. BTW, my notifications are blowing up with reverts, especially by Bzuk (whom I'm pinging here as a matter of convenience). I repeat that I believe that archived links are in principle useful, and I'll leave it at that. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 18:27, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
That's pretty much it, Drmies. It's possible that we would decide the individual links were good, but trying to anonymously blast them in from all over the world is bad.—Kww(talk) 18:31, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

AM category

Good job on cleaning up those lower level medal categories. I'm not clear on the process, but I see Category:Recipients of the Achievement Medal still has people listed. Does the bot come along and clean them out? – S. Rich (talk) 22:57, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks S. Rich. All ten categories were empty for me when I checked a bit ago. I saw that User:Armbrust used his bot to clean out the categories from articles that had them. Cheers, — -dainomite   01:16, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks and other stuff

Thank you for the Chevrons. I see you've gussied up your talk page, too.

While editing the 506th Air Refueling Squadron I found that its predecessor was cited in the Order of the Day by the Belgian Army. I couldn't put this in the awards table because the first field (streamer) is a mandatory entry and I couldn't leave it blank. Can the table be changed to accept a blank in that box? That brought to mind two other foreign unit awards, the Belgian and French Fourragères. These are awarded for units cited twice in the order of the day. Unfortunately, the image doesn't fit neatly into the table for the French and I didn't see one for the Belgian. Back in the pre-1966 days when USAF uniform regulations were a bit more like the Army's, folks used to wear unit awards earned by their unit of assignment, even if not assigned at the time the award was earned (had to take them off on reassignment). I sometimes visited Mather AFB, where the folks in the 320th Bomb Wg wore the Belgian Fourragere on their uniforms. --Lineagegeek (talk) 14:47, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
Got the template fixed and working Lineagegeek. Would you mind giving Template:Unit awards table/legend a quick peruse to make sure the legend looks good as far as verbatim of the three new awards? Basically what I did was add in a transparent image to have the template display that instead of the "Invalid parameter" display even though nothing is seen in the end. This trick works for any time an award doesn't have an image or for one that is too difficult to display, as in the case of the Belgian and French Fourragères. In regards to the Chevrons, I think you more than deserve it for your hard work, focus and dedication in a relatively narrow field in the grand scope of the Military History WikiProject. —  dainomite   03:57, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Major template problem

Hi Daino, you are my resident template expert ... there is a major problem at Template:2008 Big Ten football standings such that it is causing results such as those at 2008 Penn State Nittany Lions football team and 2008 Ohio State Buckeyes football team ... I don't know how to fix it. Would you mind taking a look? It seems as if it is a template issue, as it occurs on multiple pages, but I don't know what it is. Thanks. Go Phightins! 03:37, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Never mind; it was something that a recent revision did ... I reverted. If you know why it broke it, I would be interested. Go Phightins! 03:41, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
No worries GP. I think you reverted it right before I saw it, but! I see what happened in the history. When the IP made this edit they left an unclosed <nowiki> tag in the template (they removed the closing nowiki tag but left the opening tag in there) which would be transcluded to any article which the template was used, thus mucking everything up. —  dainomite   03:49, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
Ahh, I see. Thanks; you have an eye for code that I don't :-) Go Phightins! 03:50, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
No worries GP, I'm not a good content writer and I appreciate any help I get in that department. p.s. I hope Penn State whoops Ohio State this weekend. Give the Badgers a bit of help in our division to go to the Big Ten championship game for the third year in a row. Although if Ohio State and Wisconsin had the same conference record at the end of the season would OSU still be the Leaders division representative in the 2013 Big Ten Football Championship Game being that the Badgers have a non-conference loss? Even though we lost because of the lack of officiating from pac-12 officials and not of our own fault... —  dainomite   03:57, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

How 'bout them Lions?

The Consolation Prize
Well Dainomite,

Your Badgers fell victim to my Lions, so forgive me for feeling a compulsive need to plaster your talk page with a Nittany Lion . I was convinced to the end we would, as we have all season long, find a way to lose, but it all turned out OK. Good game, and you still have a bowl ahead of you, just perhaps not a BCS one. The Capital One Bowl isn't that bad :-). Go Phightins! 17:26, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Lol congrats on the win Go Phightins!. You guys definitely deserved it. We were playing like crap! I think on most plays my response to what the Badgers would do was "What the fuck are you doing <name>?" or something to that effect haha. Our playcalling was atrocious too... I distinctly remember one play when Gordon was lined up as a WR and Stave threw to him instead of an open Abbrederis, and once again I was like "what the fuck!?", lol. Gordon only had one career reception in his three years... why they ran that play I have no idea. Sometime in the third quarter, probably after yet another Stave interception I just turned it to the Auburn-Bama game and I have no regrets, that was an amazing game. I wanted Auburn to win since every Bama fan I know is insanely smug about their program. But ya, do you think you guys will get to a Bowl game since you're eligible now? If we do end up going to the Capital One Bowl then I might have to check out some ticket pricing...   dainomite   21:19, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
Well, to the 2014 Capital One Bowl you go. I have selected that article as one of the bowl articles on which I will work this season (Some of last year's samples), so hopefully, in time, it will become a good article. Go Phightins! 03:07, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
Holy toledo, thanks for working on the Capital One Bowl. I'm sure it will be written very well and if there's anything I can do to help I wouldn't mind at all. What do you think of all these rumors floating around about Bill O'Brien and the NFL? Also, congrats on your two Big Ten Players of the Year! Eeeeeee. Thanks GP! Feels good to get my first GA. Jeez that was a lot of work for this slow poke. Only took eight months from start to finish, probably a lot of that was procrastination and whatnot since I didn't set out to get it to GA initially. Anywho, thanks again and Merry Christmas to you too! —  dainomite   16:58, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

I've hit the wall

Been a long time since I've had a problem with your unit decorations template. Then I started working on the 909th Air Refueling Squadron, which has 2 DUCs, 2 AFOUA with V, 1 VN Gallantry Cross with Palm, and 19 AFOUA. The table will only display the first 19 decorations. Can it be kicked up to 25? I dare not even look at former 3rd Bomb Group squadrons. --Lineagegeek (talk) 17:43, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Hey there Lineagegeek. Sorry I didn't get to this sooner. I added ten more rows to the template. Hollar at me if you need some more. Cheers, —  dainomite   08:53, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll see how it looks. --Lineagegeek (talk) 19:31, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Dainomite, do you think Natalia's article needs page protection to limit to only autoconfirmed users? starship.paint (talk | ctrb) 01:13, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Eh, I don't think it does right now. If it gets to be a lot worse then maybe request temporary page protection at WP:RPP. Right now it just seems to be fans saying "waifu" a lot.... lol. Just my opinion though.   dainomite   01:18, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
Yeah I meant temporary page protection. I'll wait and see. starship.paint (talk | ctrb) 01:21, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
@Starship.paint: yep... went ahead and put in a request at RPP. I don't think it's going to stop anytime soon and there's a backlog at RPP anyway so i imagine it will be a day or two before it gets protected. —  dainomite   02:43, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

I have no preference at all! I just like the design and the negative contrast! Mrfrobinson (talk) 19:04, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

I'm going to throw a lot of questions at you here to gauge what you would like your signature to be/look like since it's supposed to identify you as an individual... being your signature and all :p There probably won't be enough space to do all of these so pick ones you want that you think would go well together. Do you only want links to your User Page and your User Talk Page? Some people also include a link to their contributions or Special:EmailUser as well. Do you want your name with some sort of a colored background behind it. Would you want a black border or no border at all? Curved edges or straight for the background/border? Do you want any specific colors for your background, username or talk links? Do you want a different font then the default one? Would you want there to be a shadow behind the fonts? Do you want any unicode characters in it? (see here for examples of unicode characters) For example the unicode character ✉ is often used in place of a talk link. Also check out User:Dainomite/sandbox#Sig_work for other random things/ideas. Below are some examples too.

Signature, Pt. 2

Hey Dainomite, If you are in the business of new signature design, I could probably use a new one; my current one has been in use for a long time now. If not, it will still work, but I would appreciate your creative and technical skill if you don't mind. Go Phightins! 22:11, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

Hey there GP, I would be more than happy to help you out. I asked a whole plethora of questions in the other #Signature section if you wouldn't mind taking a look up there for some ideas and then list what you want down here. This is so I can see what you want in your signature in terms of what links or any particular design feature you want that I mention up there. I'll be off my computer for a couple hours for our game against Kentucky tonight but after that I will be able to get back here if you've picked out some things you like and/or want. Then we can go from there. Nice seeing you again! Cheers, —  dainomite   23:34, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
Well, I would be open to an alternate font, whether serif or script, and I am open to a background as well, however I don't think I want a shadow. I think simplicity is key; I don't want it to be too esoteric, convoluted, or "fancy", but something cool is fine :-) Unicode characters, meh; take 'em or leave 'em. No real opinion. My current signature is based on the Phillies' colors (red, blue, and green on St. Patrick's Day), and I like those colors. If it is possible to link to my user, talk, and contributions page, that would be ideal, I think. No rush. Thanks a lot! Go Phightins! 23:42, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
Hrmm, would you mind taking a look at User:Dainomite/sandbox#Sig_work to check out the fonts I have there to see if you prefer one over any of them. I assume you would like the links to be incorporated in your username like you have now as opposed to your username linking only to your userpage then additional characters linking to your talk and contribs (by that I mean something like this "Go Phightins! (talk • contribs) <timestamp>"). I'll whip up a couple test signatures later, some with and some without backgrounds of various styles to see what you like most. I do like the idea of keeping the phillies colors for the signature.   dainomite   23:57, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

@Go Phightins!: Alrighty, I tinkered around a bit this morning and made a couple signature variations for you that you can see at User:Dainomite/sandbox#For GoPhightins sig. Would you mind telling me what you think so far and let me know if you like any or would like me to tweak any to get more desirable results? Regards, —  dainomite   13:32, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

Thanks a lot. Hmm. Well, I like #2 the best I think, but I cannot discern the alternate fonts shown in the ones that have alternate fonts, possibly because I overrided the new font garbage WMF imposed on us, so I can no longer see any alternate fonts. Thanks for your work; I will probably change it to one of those in the near future. Sorry about your Badgers; I was rooting for them (as was my dog - he got excited and started jumping on me every time I would cheer ...), but I fell asleep towards the end. Oh well. Maybe next year. Go Phightins! 17:15, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
Which #2? there's three of 'em Yeah i was disappointed in the game. The refs definitely took the game away from us with all 95 of those foul calls but whatever, it's in the past now, no sense in crying over spilled milk. Just pick up the jug and whatnot. I'm glad Dekker and Kaminsky are staying with the badgers for next season. —  dainomite   00:33, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
The second one of all of them (#2 #1 =p). Thanks again for all your help. Until we meet again, God bless, and happy editing! Go Phightins! 01:27, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Hey no worries, anytime, it was my pleasure to give you a hand. I'm sure we'll cross paths relatively shortly on some college football articles... assuming I don't start editting articles related to the Milwaukee Brewers first   dainomite   03:16, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Signature, Pt. 3

My signature situation is a little bit different from those above. I'd like to know how to design my signature to alternate, so that it changes from post to post with several different variations. Is this something you can help me with? Northern Antarctica () 02:50, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Hey AS, I assume you mean something similar to how the font-color of "dain" in my signature changes from orange to blue every 24 hours? Assuming it's along those lines... getting it to display alternate signatures every other time you sign is something that I can look into if you're interested... but it's not something I already know how to do, I'm not sure how it would detect the last signature used in order for it to know what signature is next, etc. I'm sure it could be done, but I'd have to do some investigation and picking some brains. However, there's more than one way to skin a cat. The easiest way (and the way I do it because I'm lazy) is based on time, At X time it switches from Y to Z or for example I know someone that has a signature that is based on what day of the week it is and a different signature for each day. You could do something similar to what's done with Template:Statustop but that requires something being entered manually for each different triggered result (similar to how you manually enter your status on a subpage for template:statustop to display that status on your talk page) that would coincide with one of the aforementioned signatures which... on one hand seems like a pain in the butt to have to edit a page every time you want to swap your signature to a different one. However, with that you pick your signature and it stays that way until you decide to change it again. It all depends on how you want to go forward with this I spose. I hope this helps and is not too confusing. Regards, —  dainomite   03:13, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I basically meant something similar to what your signature does. It sounds like basing it on time is probably the best option. Could I trouble you for more information on how to do that? Northern Antarctica 03:17, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Surely, would you mind me asking how many signature variants you plan on using first? Just so I have an idea going forward. —  dainomite   03:24, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Let's start small with 3. Northern Antarctica 03:28, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Alrighty, this will all take place at User:Northern Antarctica/signature of course; what code are you looking to swap out every 24 hours in your signature? Are you looking to change the entire signature or just minute aspects of it like, for instance the font-color while everything else stays the same. We're going to be using the #TIME Parser Function if you're familiar with that at all. Also, coming from someone who was warned in the past about sig length, if someone wanted to be a dbag to you they could tell you that your signature is too long since it's over 256 characters and you'd have to change it since it's policy I'm not saying you have to change it... because I don't care ... but you know there are just those people on WP who seem to like pissing in other folks cheerios. Pardon my crude language... lol —  dainomite   03:53, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
I've updated my signature page with the two other alternates I want to use. Northern Antarctica (talk) 04:09, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Alrighty, since you're only changing the text-shadow color this will be the easiest it would've ever been. How do you want to proceed from here? Do you want me to just implement it on your signature subpage? Or do you want me to kinda explain it here first what we'll be doing and how it works? —  dainomite   04:32, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
I actually just changed my mind and decided to change two of the three alternates because I wanted more variety. Will that cause any problems? Northern Antarctica () 04:34, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Sure won't. We'll just have each sig be its own expression instead of having the one signature where the text-shadow colors would be the different expressions within the signature. Which will probably be easier for you to edit in the future if you ever want to change something up. Because the three signatures wont have any code in the middle of them. This way it will be like "PARSER FUNCTION STUFF |0=<code for signature one>|1=<code for signature two>|2=<code for signature three> STUFF" instead of "<sig beginning> PARSER FUNCTION STUFF |0=<shadow color one>|1=<shadow color two>|2=<shadow color three> END PARSER FUNCTION <rest of signature>". I hope this simplistic example makes sense . —  dainomite   04:45, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Yes, that makes sense (I think ). If it's not too much trouble, I'd appreciate it if you could do the implementing for me. Northern Antarctica () 04:49, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
It's no trouble at all. Done I made sure it will display all three signatures and then restart the "cycle" if you will, so you should be all set. If you ever need tinkering with it and can't figure it out just give me a shout. —  dainomite   05:09, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Just one question: how often will the signature change? Northern Antarctica 05:15, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Every 24 hours and they change at 0000 UTC. Did you want some other amount of time? —  dainomite   05:32, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

That's fine for now, but in case I wanted to change it in the future, what would I need to adjust? Northern Antarctica 14:56, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
You can go to this link over at the Mediawiki wiki and take a gander at the variables for the #TIME Parser Function and in the parser function coding on your signature subpage it currently has #time:z}} mod 3}} the "z" after the time function if you look in the table says "Day of the month, not zero-padded" so you can swap "z" out for anything really in the table on the mediawiki page so long as you get it to work properly. So for example you could do #time:U}} / 86400) mod 3}} which if you look at the table you see "U" is seconds and 86400 being the seconds of the day and it would be the effectively the exact same as you have it right now. Or half it to have it change every twelve hours and such. So there's lots of things you could tinker with using #TIME for getting it to display different signatures. you can change it to twelve hours using the aforementioned method then do "mod 4" and add another signature in there and it would be one signature every twelve hours with it repeating after 48 hours. Make sense? —  dainomite   00:41, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
I think I got it. Thanks again for being so helpful. Northern Antarctica () 02:36, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Military help

Dainomite, my Eagles just signed Alejandro Villanueva, an Army Ranger who has served three tours in Afghanistan. I created an article about him (at the prior link), and was hoping you would be able to help me sift through his numerous commendations for meritorious service and compile them into an infobox. They are listed in the Eagles' press release, which is the article's first reference. Thank you in advance! By the way, this is a slam dunk DYK, and I would be more than happy to share credit with you if you can help me with this. Thanks again! Go Phightins! 21:51, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

Sure, I'd love to help out! —  dainomite   22:07, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
How does the awards/badges section look? I tried to keep it relatively small/light so it wouldn't be dis-proportionally larger than the prose. Want me to see about a "military service" section if I can find some more info on him? I'd say there's a good start in that press release but if you have other organization plans for sections and whatnot then that's okay too. Cheers! —  dainomite   22:51, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, eventually we'll need prose on the military section, if you want to help with that, I'd appreciate it; you're more qualified than I :-) Go Phightins! 01:25, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
Surely, I'll see what I can come up with. Question regarding the infoboxes... wasn't there some way to combine people infoboxes and essentially "stitch" them together? I could've swore there was but I can't remember. —  dainomite   01:41, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
I think there might be a way; I'll ask around. Go Phightins! 01:43, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
Roger dodger! Also, I flushed out his military career section a bit. I can't find anything that isn't a regurgitation of the Eagles article already though. I was hoping there would be an odd picture or two from some military .gov/.mil sites but I struck out there aswell. :/ —  dainomite   02:40, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
Hmm. As for images, army images are all public domain, correct? So would the image here, an "army photo", the photo here from the website for the Army Black Knights, or one of these images, "labeled for reuse with modification", perhaps work? Go Phightins! 19:15, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
Well the good news here is that first image is in the public domain because it says "Army photo" directly under it; and any pictures labeled as such are indeed in the public domain, huzzah! :p The other ones don't have photo credit attributing to the Army or anything so chances are they aren't in the public domain. I did message guy on flickr who took this picture asking him to change the license to CC-BY-SA or something so we can use it but I haven't heard back from him yet. *crossing my fingers* —  dainomite   19:58, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
I nominated it for DYK, and will take care of the QPQ. Thanks for all your help. Go Phightins! 02:33, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
Sounds good, thank you for putting me on the DYK, awfully kind of you. I must admit I am a DYK noob, so I have no idea what a QDQ is . I've only ever gone through the process twice; once about a year ago and the last one a few weeks ago. This last time was about the easiest, fastest and most pain-free that I think a DYK could possibly go. I wish I was a content creating machine but I seem to be a Wikisloth in almost all aspects; it annoys me when I have rather large tasks that I know I should do but end up not doing (like using my extensive collection of books about the Norman conquest of southern Italy to provide inline citations throughout the whole article). Oh, congrats on your Eagles pick of Marcus Smith a few hours ago. Well now... apparently I meandered off onto a few different tangents there... lol. —  dainomite   05:28, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

QPQ = quid pro quo - once you have I think it's 5 DYKs, you have to do a QPQ review to help reduce the backlog. Anyway, I know little about any of the players the Eagles drafted; I did not spend much time at all learning about draft prospects this year for several reasons, not the least of which was an engaging book I was reading, but I digress. Anyway, off to bed for me - 8 AM church tomorrow comes earlier than I would like at times, but I suppose there are few better things to wake up early for :-) Do you follow an NFL team? Go Phightins! 01:58, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

Oh gotcha, well I spose that only makes sense to help reduce the backlog. I did watchlist the DYK so if there's anything I might have to answer regarding his military stuff I could render some assistance. I don't read about draft prospects either because there's just too many individuals to read about. The only knowledge I have of them would be my existing CFB knowledge pretty much. The only Eagles draftee I know is Beau Allen, the Badgers Nose Tackle that y'all drafted; I hope he develops nicely for you guys. He served the Badgers well. I'm a Green Bay fan. I only knew of two of our picks, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (S) from 'bama and Jared Abbrederis (WR) from Wisconsin. I was insanely happy that we grabbed Abbrederis too because he did wonders for the Badgers and he's a stellar individual. I was sad we didn't get Chris Borland, but beggars can't be choosers. I wish he went to a team I didn't mind but he just had to go to the 49'ers, grr. But yeah. Interesting and odd draft overall I think. Apparently some people are saying us Packers had a good draft so that works for me. —  dainomite   02:45, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week, for excellent work in the military subject area among other fine endeavors. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Go Phightins! submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate Dainomite as Editor of the Week for fantastic work in a variety of areas. From helping technical klutzes like me do cool things with templates, to working on articles about important military figures such as Bryan D. Brown or American football topics such as our collaboration on Alejandro Villanueva, he is a fine editor, not to mention a fine American; he is a combat veteran from the United States Air Force. Moreover, he embodies an ideal collegial spirit in his interactions with other editors, showing a commitment to helping them however he can, such as helping them revamp their signatures. For these reasons as well as the fact that he does not seem to receive much recognition for his outstanding work, I nominate him as editor of the week. Keep it up, Dainomite; thanks for all you do!

Signature, pt 4

Hi Dainomite, since you seem the go to person regarding signatures... Would it be possible for me to have a signature that alternated every 24 hours (as yours does) between two colour schemes? Thanks, Matty.007 16:15, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi there matty. Surely, I don't mind. Just be aware that this will require substituting a subspage (like User:Matty.007/signature) and using that technique in for your signature you are required to be vigilant of your signature every time you sign something; to ensure your signature subpage hasn't been vandalized (per WP:SIG#NT). With you knowing that :p What are you thinking color-wise? That being said, do you want to keep your current signature and just have it alternate font-colors? —  dainomite   17:38, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
(As a note, you just pinged some poor random editor...) No problem with creating a subpage. Probably current (Matty.007) and the original (Matty.007). Thanks, Matty.007 17:57, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
Hah! Apparently I did ping someone else xD copy&paste fail on my part. I'm pretty busy tonight and tomorrow so the earliest I will have some free time will be tuesday afternoon US time. —  dainomite   23:59, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

@Matty.007: Sorry for the huge delay matt, RL has been crazy lately. I made your signature subpage so all you have to do is go to your preferences and for "signature" put {{SUBST:User:Matty.007/signature}}. Hey!! thanks a lot, I appreciate it :) I haven't changed mine in a month or so. Mine alternates between this teal color and yellow every 24 hrs though :) It used to switch between dark blue and dark orange for the "dain" font color but as was pointed out to me, the contrast between the font color and black background wasn't color-blind compliant (WP:COLOR) so I changed it to these colors. Thanks again Matty! —  dainomite   18:59, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

Nigel Hayes page

Hello, I had created a page for Wisconsin Badgers basketball star Nigel Hayes and now it has been proposed for deletion because it does not have enough sources. If there is anything you can help to make the page more notable, it would be much appreciated. Thank you. GO BADGERS!!! Destiny7awaits (talk) 02:11, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

The odds

If the odds are "Wisconsin -4.5", that means that Wisconsin is favored to win, and the "point spread" is 4.5 points. So if you went to a sports betting place in Las Vegas and bet on Wisconsin, you would win the bet if Wisconsin won the game by five points or more; if Wisconsin lost, tied, or won by four points or less, they would not "cover the spread" and you would lose the bet. To say the same thing a different way, the odds makers think that Wisconsin will win by four and a half points -- or to put it more precisely, they think that's the outcome with the median probability. Of course there are no half points in football, but they usually do it with half points so that the bettor either wins or loses. See also: Spread betting Mudwater (Talk) 18:06, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Well, I sure hope you didn't bet on Wisconsin. Mudwater (Talk) 13:57, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@Mudwater: I didn't bet on the game, but I should've invested in Miller. My friends and I probably made their stock go up 2 whole points. Before the game started we settled on a jovial game of "drink every time Melvin Gordon gets more than 5 yards, finish your beer if he scores a touchdown" but that game was very quickly replaced with "drink every time Stave misses a pass and Gordon doesn't make 5 yards on a carry". But seriously, thanks for the explanation. Now, if you don't mind me I'll be going to my dark closet to cry myself back to sleep. *sobs* —  dainomite   14:23, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Gosh, I'm so glad the Big Ten is doing good in Bowl Games too. If we had another crappy year for the Big Ten that would just suck but we definitely made a comeback as a conference in this Bowl Season. We finally won a bowl game after losing four in a row too, and against one of those "SEC West" teams the media loves talking about no less. I saw your Lions won their bowl game too, that's a good way to end the season despite most of the regular season being pretty rough on yall.
