Zombies on the Airwaves of Paris

I noticed that you reverted my edit on this album page. Just to let you know, according to WikiProject Albums, track titles should be in quotes (and albums in italics). You can find this formatting convention and much more on the Project page. --Fisherjs 08:20, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Album Format

Thanks for the advice - will try and ensure i maintain the standard format - maybe you can help did some editing/creating entry for Kevin Mitchell (musician) in respect to his two albums Suburban Kid & Suburban Songbook unfortunately they are under the wrong titles but I am not certain how to change them so the album info is under the correct heading - can you help Dan arndt 05:37, 19 October 2006 (UTC) Whilst the link to the album Suburban Kid is now correct - the link to Suburban Songbook just directs it to Suburban Kid. Can anyone help with re-establishing the correct links to the correct pages Dan arndt 08:44, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Where do you want that link to aim? --ais523 13:45, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
I see you moved the pages. I don't remove the redirection on Suburban Songbook or that article would be deleted since it is empty. You can use this link to edit the page. Hope that helps! I remove the helpme tag :) Don't hesitate to contact me or someone else if you need some more help. Happy Editing! -- lucasbfr talk 15:04, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Oh I just understood what you meant. I'm going to look into this and either do the changes or ask an admin to play :) -- lucasbfr talk 16:50, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Ok an admin is looking into it and will probably move Suburban Kid* to Kid, and Kid to Songbook shortly. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask me or put the helpme tag back :) -- lucasbfr talk 16:59, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Dan, I think this article is going to have to be deleted because most of the content in it is copied from here. Their legal page indicates the content is copyrighted in a way that's not compatible with wikipedia's license. Did I miss something? You can reply here.--Kchase T 06:12, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Are you going to respond?--Kchase T 06:25, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

I actually didn't source it for there originally but from their MySpace website which has some similar content - I have tried to edit it sufficiently so that it isn't infringing in any way but am prepared to change it further if necessary. Dan arndt

Well, the secondary problem is that the band probably isn't well enough known to meet our standards for music and bands. Give WP:MUSIC a read and let me know what you think. I can't delete it myself (it asserts enough notability or importance that you're entitled to a wider forum for discussion on the band's notability). But if you don't think it meets WP:MUSIC, you can give me permission to delete it. Give WP:MUSIC a read and let me know if you want a wider forum for discussion. You can reply here.--Kchase T 06:36, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Did check WP:MUSIC and would like to think that it meets a number of the criteria, generally as follows (but if you need me to clarify or you think that the 'grounds' are shaky let me know:

  1. can cite a number of Australian press reviews of the band and their releases if necessary (these articles are not press releases but independent reviews).
  2. the band have toured nationally on several occassions
  3. depends on whether you cite Redline Records (the label established by members of the band, Jebediah) or Shock records as a major indie label or not.
  4. Simon Struthers from the band is now a notable record producer as well working with a number of up and coming bands and artists, notably Bob Evans (who's latest album has been nationall recognised)
  5. the band in 1998 won a national competion for unsigned bands run by the Australian Broadcasting Commission
  6. the drummer from the band also won a West Australian Music Industry Award in 2003(which after the ARIAs) are one of the more nationally recognised music awards in Australia.
  7. the band have also recieved national coverage on the Australia Youth radio Station, Triple J.

does this assist? Dan arndt

Yeah, I'm actually surprised how many ways it meets MUSIC that I missed. I'm not going to bother with a trip to articles for deletion. Just clean up the copyvio issues and it's fine. Thanks for your kind attention to this.--Kchase T 08:34, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

thanks for your assistance - rather than just deleting the article - will make sure that i clean up the article to ensure no copyright infringements occur Dan arndt

No problem. Sorry for being so demanding above.--Kchase T 08:42, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Its Ok - kept me on my feet & made me think about the content more than I probably would have Dan arndt

Eskimo Joe

Thanks for bringing the spelling of Temperley's name to my attention. (Oddly, I used to have a teacher with this surname!) I was able to confirm your observation on a number of reliable sites, so went with it. I've fixed the spelling and all links to it so that they point to the right page. Image:Rollerskates.jpg listed for deletion

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Rollerskates.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. —Pilotguy (ptt) 03:51, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Nrfb.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Nrfb.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 00:18, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Have uploaded new promotional picture from NRFB myspace webpage - which checking with other abnd pics seems to be a reasonable 'fair use rationale' in that it is a picture from the band's own website promoting the band (this rationale appears to have been extensively used on other wikipedia articles) - let me know if I am wrong about this Dan arndt 08:51, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Drones-tmd.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Drones-tmd.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Thanks for uploading Image:Nrfb.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

The image reaches the fair use criteria in that

No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information. The picture is not being used in a manner that would likely replace the original market role of the original copyrighted media - the picture is currently only available from the band's myspace website (although is likely to also be available on the band's offical website which is currently under construction) The picture has been published on the band's offical myspace website. The picture only relates to the article describing the band, its history, members (which the picture illustrates) & discography The picture meets the media-specific policy requirements. The picture is to be used in the article on the band. The picture contributes significantly to the article (e.g. clearly identifies the subject of an article). The image is only being used in the article namespace. It is not linked, nor inlined, from the talk pages The image or media description page contains: Proper attribution of the source of the material. An appropriate fair use tag indicating which Wikipedia policy provision permitting the use is claimed. The picture is one of several prictures that the band has had taken for promotional press releases - there are currently no other free equivalent images of the band available - the image is only being used in respect to an article on the band Dan arndt 05:46, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_talk:Nrfb.jpg"

The problem is it is break rule number one, which is the most important one; someone can capture this band/group at a show/concert quite easily since the band performs live on a regular basis and freely release it. Also, the pictures section of the Myspace page is only available to people who sign up for myspace, which is another problem. Finally, the band must label the appropriate picture to be released under the GFDL but, again, since this is a band that currently performs, this image is replaceable. -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 18:25, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I guess I would have to disagree in that as the picture is a promotional picture released by the band it does constitute a freely available image of the band - and based on your 'narrow' interpretation almost all images on wikipedia would have to be removed. At this stage there are no other 'free' images of the band available - given that most venues actively discourage or prohibit the taking of pictures or video it becomes extremely unlikely that someone could/would take a picture of the band performing live and then mave it freely available - I would contend that the best source of any image of a band is directly from the band itself - which is the case here Dan arndt 23:54, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Poster rockit05.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Poster rockit05.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

List of Western Australian Musicians

Hi, in line with the general push at the List of Australian people - where a number of lists have been nominated for deletion, I have placed a prod at the list - it is suggested that the list would be better served by a category of theose articles which are already started. The list contains a significant number of red links - and it is likely that those names will simply drop off in the event of a change to a category.

Please feel free to leave comment at the list talk page - please also note I am not trying to in any way criticise your hard work - I am simply putting up an alternative that looks like a better way to go. SatuSuro 13:40, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that - really appreciate the hard work you put in - hey! SatuSuro 00:22, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
There is a strong push to push it - as part of a big project from the east to reduce lists of people - if you wanna keep it as is - create a sub page of your own user page and /de-link the items - if you want help let me know - SatuSuro 00:30, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah there is an article about that - Australian regional rivalries
Re the list - the prod that was suggested to me - was suggested under the assumption that it might not work. :) However - the process of making it a sub page to work on - what you do is go to your user page, and create the equivalent of a talk page archive - that is, you must have your user name in the title of the page so it dosnt get lost in wiki space - if you want clues go to my user page and see my strangely named sub pages - to see how they work. Anyways - copy the list (ie best to go to list in edit mode- to get stuff) into the red link sub page (call it whatever -list) - and save there. Then vip - put : a colon at the beginning of each blue linked item - so that the articles dont link to your subn page - there you have a working list - which you can work from without being harassed by all and sundry. If all this is as clear as mud - if you like I could do it for you - but only with your permission. cheers SatuSuro 00:44, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
If you could do that for me that would be great - have got to get back and strat doing some real work Dan arndt 01:00, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
I have not been able to de-link them - ran out of time - they need the : in to keep fthem from linking unnecssarily.... will try later - maybe you can too... SatuSuro 01:42, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Being born in the 1950's means that my 16 year old might know some of the stuff you write about... VIP - we must delink them! SatuSuro 04:25, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for going in there and letting them know - well worth finding out how the engines of afd/prod and etc all work - at the oz project level SatuSuro 08:36, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Got ot go out in a second - will need to get back later tonight about the process, unless someone else can help you before then... sorry - gotta rush! SatuSuro 09:24, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi. I spotted your last question on user talk:SatuSuro. The short answer is "yes". To put articles in a category, you need to add the category to the bottom of each article. If the category name shoows up red (it does for a new category), you need to then edit that page to put the new category into the category graph by adding it to some other categories, and it's often helpful to also give the category a short description. Remember that WP:BLP says you shouldn't just add categories to people articles if the text doesn't explain why they're in that category (unlikely problem for the categories I think you're talking about, but still needs to be said). In fact, that's a good guideline to follow anyway. --Scott Davis Talk 23:46, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
From an expert - I have taken note of that as welll :) SatuSuro 02:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Apparently my 'notion' of delinking was incorrect - my apologies - pointed out by scott on his talk page - his argument is if that they are linked the more experienced editor will see you are at 'what links here' and may well check up with you about details - bit a like free publicity/contact. Hope its going ok - remember the WP Music project criteria for notability when you are doing new ones - and if anyone ever challenges you over a new one - refer them to those criteria - if you follow scott's talk - he is of the opinion that anyone with a guitar and a friend with a cd can put themselves up - its good to have skeptics - keeps us all honest - but you just have to make sure you keep to that criteria when putting up new articles ! SatuSuro 02:54, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Unless someone else suggests otherwise - I'd stay with musicians category for the moment - unless you have 20 + articles that are notable reasonable beyond stub good quality that could fit into that SatuSuro 03:25, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Well ask yourself - if they are indeed separate from the musicians - youve been given the lowdown by scott above - you could remember to put wp australia perth = yes in the talk page of each - and youre on your way! hope to see it when its populated as we say... make sure you qualify who how when in the category page itself SatuSuro 04:05, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Indie musicians

Hi Dan. You sound like someone who could comment at talk:Lists of Australians#Arts-related lists about the article List of Australian independent bands, 1976-1992. Is it likely to be useful to Wikipedia, or should it be moved to user or project space as a checklist of groups that don't have articles yet? Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 13:37, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

xfd

Voting fine - but be very careful with comments like that - we are all quite frustrated by a number of younger members in WP WA - even though there is a cop out clause of humour - we have to be very careful how we conduct ourselves lest someone does a WP Civility or WP Wikiquette on to us - similar to claims of wikistalking - I have had the comment of the latter from a guy who actually does it himself - the article of base level of everything here is good faith, civility - and from that we somehow keep this - the great goldfish bowl in the ether running... and everything - even in our archives and sub pages is so rapidly seen on google you wouldnt imagine how fast. So I am old boy from one of the rival schools - and I felt that way during my teen years - but now we are here on WP - we gotta tread carefully - even with our humour! cheers - trust the categories are filling up ok

  • if you havent worked it out - our local admins (whom we see the most - there are a couple of 'invisible ones' ) here in Perth are Hesperian, Gnangarra, Orderinchaos and Moondyne -all good help on all things - we now have the four hose-persons of the apocalypse! SatuSuro 08:52, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Actually when or if you ever venture into rabid edit wars, come face to face with death wish vandals, or similar travails - the notion of hose persons of the apocalypse a pun maybe - its great when they come to the rescue ansd hose down the offenders! :) SatuSuro 23:25, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I have met for and can vouch for all for of them - they are real human beings with good sense of humour and understanding of the wa project - and great contributors as well - always worth a message about the smallest of anything that might trouble you - dosnt matter how trivial.
The thing is you never really expect it and then one day on your watch list you find the cockroaches have been at one of your articles (oops we never 'own them but) putting 'poo' on it, or blanking it for fun :( - it is worth knowing before you ever have to - knowing about warning template for the little dears who love to see their mess - WP:TT - you dont have to know or be able to use it all - but its well worth having a look - it can also make sense of some messages you may find on vandals talk pages..SatuSuro 23:43, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Could you please source your comments regarding chart placement and radio airplay on this article? You are it's only contributor to date. Garrie 00:05, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

If you could add references to the other lash songs that would be equally appreciated.Garrie 00:06, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
I didn't mean links to more websites like youtube (WP:EL - don't link to it as an external link). I meant references like news articles or other press coverage confirming chart listings, release dates etc.Garrie 01:32, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Triffids catalogue

Hi Dan, Good work on the Triffids catalogue. Two points: (1) Are you able to create Wiki articles for any of these albums in the style of artists' albums, complete with composers, song lengths, infobox etc? I don't have any of these albums, otherwise I'd do it meself. (2) I'm uncertain of the status of the two Dungeon Tapes albums -- were they legitimate releases by the Triffids? Again, without specific entries for each of these albums it's a bit hard to work out what they are, but I'm not aware of them and from memory they don't appear on the Triffids' website as proper releases. If they were, for example, cassette-only releases in limited edition, they might be better listed as a separate category in the discography. Thanks, Grimhim 10:37, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Great work. Two minor criticisms: (1) The links on the album infoboxes that should flow from one album to another. In the Treeless Plain infobox the "next" album in the chronology should be either Love in Bright Landscapes or, better, the second true studio album, Born Sandy Devotional. Sticking an EP in as the "next" album prevents you from clicking the "next album" link repeatedly that would take you through the whole sequence. If you get what I mean. And (2) do you have composer credits for albums past Treeless Plain? Keep it up. Grimhim 06:11, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:Wpa-roaringdays.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you uploaded the same image twice: as Image:Wpa-roaringdays.jpg and also as Image:Wpa- roaringdays.jpg. The latter copy of the file has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and remember exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 01:26, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Recordings 2003-2005.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Recordings 2003-2005.jpg.

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Homebake 2004.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Homebake 2004.jpg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 16:58, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Dan. I added the above band to your list. I hope that's OK. Great editing BTW. —Moondyne 12:20, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Appreciated? You bet. A while back I posted this [1] and didn't get a definite answer but have since decided that 'Winstons' is the correct spelling. Would you happen to know by any chance? —Moondyne 02:10, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Have you thought about moving your list into the article space? —Moondyne 02:12, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

I'll give it some thought. To justify a list, you really need to include data which is more than what a category does. eg., group by genre, perhaps member names, era, associations. Let me think about it. —Moondyne 04:59, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Category

Hi, I'm not quite sure how to do that but you're more than welcome to ! Thanks for your help with populating the categories. If you know of any other venues, festivals or events with articles please don't hesitate to pop them in the relevant Culture in... (Western Australia or Perth, Western Australia) category as well as I am trying to populate those too. Zivko85 14:40, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

i wouldnt worry about details... if it looks cultural, throw it in and we can always reorganise it later :) i put in some sub cats under Culture in Western Australia to do with music and so on, i sort of used the rationale "if it applies to WA then it should be in WA"... like most perth bands are really WA bands being that they often play at mandurah, bunbury etc Zivko85 10:20, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikiproject proposal

Hi Dan, there's a current proposal to start up a new WikiProject covering Australian music. See here. I thought you may be interested. Cheers —Moondyne 12:34, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi , saw your message over at Steve's and have removed the tag. In general, be bold and remove any cleanup tags like that yourself once you are satisfied they are no longer needed. Well done in getting it referenced so quickly. Cheers, Mattinbgn/ talk 01:22, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

While I am here, can you have a look at Calerway and see if it can be fixed to meet WP:BAND. A new editor is struggling with finding sources. Thanks, Mattinbgn/ talk 01:27, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

    • Thanks for taking a look for me. I was the original nominator, and when the editor came to me for help with some info he had not included in the article, I had a chance to rethink my nomination. Another reason why I should stay away from music articles. :-) Cheers, Mattinbgn/ talk 04:18, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Have provided the following justification for the fair use of the picture:

Whilst there has been no offical announcement that the band has disbanded they have not played any significant gigs together for over two years. Simon Struthers has tended to focus on producing other bands records, Matt Maguire is playing almost full time with the Tucker B's and Andrew Ryan is playing with Fall Electric. It is highly unlikely that anyone (in the foreseeable future) will ever be able to take a picture of the band again. It should be noted the picture used included Geoff Symons who has since left the band. Dan arndt 00:49, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Valet Records

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Valet Records, by Bsnowball, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Valet Records seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Valet Records, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Valet Records itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 06:17, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Preytells.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Preytells.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 11:54, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair Use images in The Stems

Fair use images are considered decorative when added to a list like you did in The Stems and therefore are not allowed. I have re-removed the images from the article. ~ BigrTex 16:05, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

He's correct. I've just removed a fair use image from the article at Geelong, Victoria for the exact same reason. Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia, and fair use images are usually copyrighted to others, therefore can't be used under a free licence. Further to this, you may be able to claim fair usage of an album cover image in an article about the album itself, but fair usage does not extend to lists as such. WP:FU has more information if you wish to read up on the details of fair usage. -- Longhair\talk 00:45, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
The article The Stems is an article about the band. Fair usage of an album cover image would not apply in this article. You could only use the album cover image claiming fair usage in an article about the album itself. -- Longhair\talk 00:57, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
I'm not so sure about that image specifically, as it appears to not be of an album cover but rather a montage of pics of the band members. The whole fair-use and non-free image policy has just recently been turned on its head with a ruling by the Wikimedia Foundation that these images can only be used for critical commentary purposes. Which to me means that that album covers etc. cannot be used in 'list' articles, but can be used in an article which specifically discusses the album or the subject which the image represents. Image:The Stems.jpg seems OK by this criteria. I see its been marked for review by the 'experts', so thats fine. —Moondyne 00:59, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
I'm afraid that another aspect of the Foundation ruling is that fair use images much be irreplaceable by a free version, which has been interpreted as a virtual blanket ban on fair use images of living people. So that image is very likely to be deleted. Hesperian 01:37, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
These two guys are those who have a good understanding of it- take careful note what they say - they are more or less what we have for good knowledge of what is cheers SatuSuro 01:06, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
It's easy to be caught out. Things have always been this way, but it's only of late that the rules are being enforced as such :) -- Longhair\talk 01:32, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
One more thing -- don't forget to include a rationale on the image description page why you believe the image is usable under fair usage. Failing to do this will see the image deleted. -- Longhair\talk 01:35, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
As you can see from the above I have already had several reminders of that Dan arndt 01:38, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
As far as I'm concerned, be very careful about taking any notice of anything I say - it's probably wrong ;). Top article by the way, I had forgotten about that band completely but do remember seeing them at the Shent's several times a long time ago. Great stuff.
BTW, you can tag any of your many many article talk pages with {{WP Australia|WA=yes|music=yes|class= }} which will add them into the WA and Music projects. —Moondyne 01:41, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
