re: Charlotte's Web[edit]

With no direct claim to notability they would rely on independent coverage. The current article mostly sources from Party Fears (looks like it's a zine (ie.not considered a reliable source), is that right) with help from the Australian Rock Database (would imo not pass a close look as a reliable source) so currently questions at AFD this would not do well. Whether anyone would nominate it is another question. Spencer's Who's Who of Australian Rock doesn't help much, it only lists two seperate lineups and a release or two with no description or sourced comment. You've probaly heard from Shaidar cuebiyar that McFarlane doesn't help. Duffbeerforme (talk) 13:25, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Trophy Night, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Trophy Night. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Joe Chill (talk) 02:39, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Better Late Than Never[edit]

While trawling through websites for my editing at Skyhooks I came across an interesting database... Remember The Who's Who of Australian Rock by Chris Spencer from 1989? It went through additional editions and collected more authors/contributors including Paul McHenry and Zbig Nowara not to mention Ed Nimmervoll. Well, it went on-line back in 2007 (see here).

What's the point of all this I hear you cry? Well, it is reliable and you could search to find...

  1. Love Pump
  2. Charlottes Web (yeah I know, apostrophe is missing).

Note: it gives non-musicians & non-members too, and links to other bands per common personnel.

Meanwhile, I'm going back to Skyhooking, I've got to update some band members...shaidar cuebiyar ( talk | contribs ) 08:56, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For the "THE" bands, try something like Marigolds, The. Now back to regular Skyhookments...shaidar cuebiyar ( talk | contribs ) 09:17, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note about CW - sorry for the delay in replying. I've forwarded your request to Kym. I like the look of your sandbox draft so far. Davidcohen (talk) 23:32, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again - this from Kym: I was in the band until stumps, so not sure where the 1990 bit came from. Jeff Lowe, me and Nathan Jarvis (Bob's Lovechild) formed 'The Indian Givers' after the Web disbanded. Laurie may have been part of that, I can't remember. And the accident was post CW ( May 18, 1992), and we were both hit by a car. Jeff injured to a lesser extent! Flick, Kym, Jill Burt, Liz Dear, Alison ??, Joanne ???(David McComb's GF) and one other had a couple of shows as 'Wild Honey', playing covers. I'm now a Registered Vet Nurse. Releases & "Downtime"[edit]

IMO: MusicBrainz as an EL is sufficient for a release's existence, individual ref not needed for B-class unless there's a claim about the release's notability ie charting or cert. Checked spelling/grammar. Have queries re: names of some people. Sally Zwartz and Jonathon Swatz. Both last names are similar & I'm not sure whether they're related (seems likely with such a rare name and both in Wellington with Morris but no OR allowed).

See here for Jonathon Zwartz. See also other ex-Crocs there. Sally Zwartz was an editor of Wellington Uni's student newspaper in 1984 and wrote a an article on Anne Kennedy in 1986. Can't tell if its same woman.

Also Rick/Ricky/Rikki Morris? Is he related to Jenny?shaidar cuebiyar ( talk | contribs ) 08:36, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Boys (Australian band)[edit]

Hi Dan, I'm a bit concerned about the page The Boys (Australian band) being polished up for promotional reasons. Since you've been working on the page I thought I'd get your opinion before taking anything further. The user I'm concerned about is BOYS MANAGEMENT (Not the most subtle name) who appears to be editing in a promotional way and removing other's edits without providing sufficient reason why. Do you think this is an issue worth taking further? cheers Clovis Sangrail (talk) 11:15, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, I only came across the Boys while recent page patrolling, since early on it was having links and cut-and-paste text from the user. Their edits are more content related now, and I'm unfamiliar with the band and am struggling to get hard facts from outside sources which is why I queried you. I think you summarise it on their talk page. (Though as an edit patroller their edit summaries are a bit frustrating) Cheers Clovis Sangrail (talk) 06:13, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Had fun and found it at Battye in the Western Mail "make sure you note the title, date and author - either us can then help with preparing the reference citation". Title: Last Wave Farewell, Date: Weekend Feb 1-2, 1986, Author: Martin Black also Title: Don't Cry For Me, says Reyne, same date and author. What do I do now? and thank you.Woddawik (talk) 16:01, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's a Souvenir Edition 4 page wrap, front and back page with a poster on the inside. I have them as Pdfs and Jpgs but I don't know how I can show you? Yes it says, "Australian Crawl perform their last ever concert tonight at the Perth Entertainment Centre, ending an unique era in Australian Music." The final words of the back page article James Reyne is quoted, "We really enjoy Perth, and have a lot of friends there, so it was a conscious decision to play our final show there. Besides, everybody expected us to play the last show back in Melbourne, so stuff 'em." Exactly what should I do? Oh, btw the radio station corrected their error on air this morning. DYK for Cattle and Cane[edit]

Updated DYK query On March 25, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Cattle and Cane, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

PK for FA[edit]

Interesting idea but that'll mean a lot of work. I suggest we wait till JM is GA.

  • Preliminary ideas on PK
  1. From the JM PR: we've probably got too many refs in the Lead. Elsewhere we'll have to go through line by line and try to amalgamate and update each ref.
    1. I've moved the refs out of the Lead, checked/updated them and found problems as listed below. I also moved all the refs to the Specific section leaving behind only tabs. Further work on refs will be needed as ALLCAPS in titles (unless acronyms e.g. ARIA) have to be converted to Allcaps or AllCaps.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:36, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Too many quotes in places with different styles used.
  3. Check each photo. Others for each era would help.
  4. Consider separate sections with descriptions of: music styles, songwriting, stage and album artwork, costumes, charities/good works, controversies.
    1. Started section on Musical style and song writing.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:36, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Sound samples: I don't know how to do these.
    1. I'm now a novice at this so bear with me as I get this done.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:36, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Personal life: This section should be expanded. Additionally, I'd like more info on: first wife, end of their marriage & his move to Sydney. Was he actually married to Fairfax? (I'm seeing domestic partner a lot). While growing up, did Declan live with his mother mainly or with PK? Did getting his jaw broken affect his long term singing style? Which of PK's brothers is father of Dan K? Some of these may be unanswerable by a Reliable Source.
  7. We need a fresh set of eyes, so probably a PR before going for FAN.shaidar cuebiyar ( talk | contribs ) 06:59, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

PMK4FA[edit]

Got bored of waiting. JM is still at GAN, #35 at moment. So I've started on my sandbox copy at PMK4FA. I'm moving all full refs to the specific section at bottom of article leaving only ref tabs in the upper edit zones. Next I'll move all refs out of the Lead. Then I'll trim them back—no more than two per spot where possible. While moving the refs I'm updating them and expanding where possible. Jump in whenever & wherever.shaidar cuebiyar (talk ) 10:31, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Finished work on this and transferred to main article: will continue working there.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:36, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help![edit]

Checking the current ref [10] which was entered as on 9 November 2008 and I have updated as

Currently I get a re-direct to here, Street Press Australia homepage. Can't find the article there. Aside: more work might be needed on publisher in ref above to indicate Street Press?

Using wayback machine, I get here The Drum Media Perth frontpage but can't see the article there either.

Help needed, I can't find the Jeff Jenkins article using a search string on Google &c.

The article is cited in the Lead and elsewhere that you quoted from.

Note: I have moved all refs in PK to specific refs sectn at bottom of article leaving behind only ref tabs. I'm currently vetting all the refs on the sandbox copy at PMK4FA: if you find the article update that copy.

Meanwhile I'm checking ref [11], only 100+ to go.shaidar cuebiyar (talk ) 21:30, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jeff Jenkins quotes Kelly in ref [18], chapter title is similar to Drum Media article but I'm not sure if its the same content: I'll have to check to see that each quote is there.shaidar cuebiyar (talk ) 22:30, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Appears to be different—no support for the quotes there.shaidar cuebiyar (talk ) 22:36, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Billboard/Allmusic problems[edit]

One of the general refs, points to Nimmervoll's Allmusic entry. It contains the error and Dirt in 2006. when describing recent releases. What's worse is that the adjacent summary section shows he died in 1995!

More problems occur with ref [13] in Charts & Awards tab for Billboard singles: it gives six singles from 1973–1976 on the R&B Singles chart.

Billboard itself here is no help. Aside: check photos, by No. 4 he looks very different! There is no charting information here and the bio is a carbon copy of Allmusic's including Dirt released in 2006 and died in 1995.

All of these problems relate to confusion with other Paul Kelly(s) and may present a problem in using these refs to support our claims in the PK article. We can use Nimmervoll's Howlspace entry to cover the Allmusic bio but need a better ref for Billboard charting.shaidar cuebiyar (talk ) 22:08, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More ref problems[edit]

Current ref numbers (as per this version) & problems with PMK4FA:

  1. See above. Vital for citing quotes. Must be fixed, replaced or deleted (if latter then the quotes it cites have to go too.)
  2. See above. Clutters issue with so much false information present at his Allmusic entries.
  3. Gone? Deletable since 104 does same.
  4. Gone? Deletable since 106 does same.
  5. Gone? Deletable since 110 does same.
  6. Gone? Problem, need to verify contents of video collection.
  7. Gone? Deletable since 113 does same for both places.
  8. Gone? Problem, need to verify current band line-up: may need to be replaced by more recent information.

I'm now going to move all refs out of the Lead.--shaidar cuebiyar (talk ) 07:14, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

PMK[edit]

Recent edits about Any Given Sunday appear to be good faith edits—rather than vandalism—but are about a different Paul Kelly: a US film score composer.

Meanwhile, how is the search for those refs going? Current problems with [20], [38], [109], [112] and [122].

I've put two sound samples in the article so for: "Billy Baxter" for PK&tD and "To Her Door" for PK&tCG. Probably need two more: one for later 'solo' work and one by another artist singing his song.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 21:31, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. You'll have to fix the url then. What about making a scan of your hard copy of the article, and quote it when suitably archived on-line?
  2. I don't object to AllMusic per se just their entries on PK and all the errors they contain. I'm certain that Nimmervoll would know that PK was not dead in 1995. Ed probably knows that PK didn't release Dirt in 2006 or that PK didn't have hits with "Come Lay Some Lovin' on Me" and "Don't Burn Me" in 1973 on the Billboard R&B charts.
    1. I still see the old & incorrect information at AllMusic.
  3. I get a short note describing the article (but does not mention PK) and the following message: Flash player required. Click here to download the latest flash player Even after I downloaded the latest flash player I get this same message and no further. This may be a browser problem but it needs to be fixed/described for all casual readers who may not have flash player installed/working properly.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:33, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    1. That means it is a browser problem: Grrrr I hate those.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 08:22, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Forster ref is a good find, well done Dan. It can be used in the Musical style section to verify some of the claims there. The tours can be added in the appropriate chronological positions with suitable reffing.

What did you think of the last two sound samples? I'm using a mac app called Garage Band to record and then trim the original file. Its then saved as an .ogg file by another app: I'm sure someone else could probably do it a lot more efficiently. I don't know how it would be done on Windows 7 or Vista.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 08:22, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB[edit]

Check all these refs: can we replace any of these with other sources? Some reviewers dispute IMDB's reliability. I'm not sure if his Allmovie entry has all the ones we want and/or if it has extra from other Paul Kellys.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:09, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Cliffe[edit]

Dan,

I really have little idea about how to update these pages, but I notice you created the Cliffe site. I've recently tracked downa copy of the POST newspaper articles from 11 July 1995 where architect Marcus Collins is quoted talkig about the state of the house in 1995 at the time iot was purchased by the Creasys. I think it is an imprtant comment given the controversy around the delisting of the house because iof it state of repair. I don't know if I can incorporate that into the Cliffe entry because their is no on-line source of the document. The POST's on-line archive doesn't go back that far.

The full text of the article is here.

POST Newspapers 11 July 1995 Grove landmark under threat Mining magnate Mark Creasy wants to demolish The Cliffe - one of Peppermint Grove's most outstanding homes. He has applied to the Peppermint Grove council for permission to demolish the National Trust-listed, 100-year-old historic timber mansion he bought recently. But the Heritage Council has stepped in and Heritage Minister Richard Lewis has placed a 42-day conservation order on the property. The order should prevent the demolition of the house or any major works taking place before the Heritage Council has completed an assessment. The Cliffe stands at 25 Bindaring Parade, on Devil's Elbow. Until last week, the Creasys refused the Heritage Council access to the house. But after the conservation order was effected and the Heritage Council further discussed the issue with Mr Creasy's wife, Sharon, the Creasys agreed to an inside inspection. The inspection is expected to take place this week. Mr Creasy of Daglish, became one of Australia's richest men this year when he was paid $117 million for his gold mining leases in the eastern Goldfields. Award-wining Subiaco architect Marcus Collins recently inspected the home on the invitation of the Creasys. Mr Collins recently won two prizes from the Institute of Architects - for his heritage restoration of Notre Dame University and his work overall. He described The Cliffe as one of the most outstanding, exceptional residential properties he had ever seen. Mr Collins is particularly familiar with the house. As a teenager, he visited his friend's grandparents, the Brisbanes, who then lived at the home. The thought of demolishing the house "appalled" him. Much of it was still how he remembered it as a child. "It's an essential part of the architectural history of the sate." he said. "The house is in outstanding condition. "It's absolutely beautiful. The original kitchen and bathroom fitting are still there." The walls, ceilings, skirting and tiling were largely original. "Until the Creasys bought the property it was occupied by a family and it's in wonderful condition. "If someone wanted to restore it or adapt it to more modern living it would not take much work.' "I've had a chat with the Creasys and get the impression they do not like the idea of living in a weatherboard house. "But The Cliffe is so historically important. "Neil McNeil, one of the original founders of Peppermint Grove was The Cliffe's original owner. "The house's architect was Talbot Hobbs." Peppermint Grove council is not able to give Mr Creasy permission to demolish the house while the conservation order stands.

I do have a photocopy of the article. Is it possible to include the bold quote above?

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

KMR vs ARIA[edit]

KMR until mid-1988 then ARIA.

Noiseworks was released mid-1987 and charted on KMR (actually called AMR) to #2, it appears to still be #37 by the following year when ARIA takes over. Aus-charts only gives ARIA info from week ending 26 Jun 1988: it does not give higher chart peak if it occurred before that date.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:03, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

John Butler Triffids?[edit]

Something weird is happening with John Butler Trio discography it's starting to looking like The Triffids discography. Did the two join together? Can you apply your fixing skills to sort all this out?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:27, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've had a brief edit on your sandbox. While talking triffs, can you have a look at:
  1. List of The Triffids Compact Cassettes too. Check names of each subheading per tape: there's disagreement between Tape #1 vs 1st etc. Given the Title of the article why aren't the last three, Dungeon Tape, Son of Dungeon Tape and Jack Brabham mentioned? Even if one or more is a compilation of the previous cassettes they should still be mentioned in this article.
  2. Now consider Jack Brabham Tape itself: is the cassette called Jack Brabham or is the word tape part of its title but not appearing on its cover? Is 82–87 part of the title or does it just appear on the cover?
Have fun.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 21:58, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2010 ARIA HoF[edit]

Order of priority seems to be The Loved Ones, Johnny Young, The Church and The Models. I've just started working on Savage Garden but I'll swing over to the HoFers for awhile.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:29, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Loved Ones[edit]

Confusing. I went with Milesago's order here for Astor A 7297 (yeah it disagrees with the other page on same site which you cited). It clearly describes the first single as "Ever Lovin' Man" being released by Astor early in 1966 (not 1975) with "Loved One" released in May and then "Ever Lovin' Man" being re-released in July.

Perhaps you should ask 'Dunks' himself? Both Nimmervoll and McFarlane have "Loved One" as first single.

While being confused, was Anderson ex-The Wild Cherries too? Or was it only Lovett? Different sources have varied information.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:46, 28 September 2010 (UTC) Tweakshaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:57, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, will wait for Dunks' replies before we change "Ever Lovin'" order.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:48, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi guys - thanks for the heads-up on this, happy to help out if I can. The Milesago article was done years ago; my source info back then was pretty scant and there were several errors. To the best of my knowledge (today):
- "The Loved One" was *definitely* the debut single, originally released in May 1966 on W&G's pop subsidiary In Records
- "Ever Lovin' Man" was the second single; it was reissued by the Astor label in 1975 (by which time W&G/In labels had folded)
- Gavin Anderson was not a member of the Wild Cherries as far as I know
I've amended the Loved Ones page to reflect these corrections - hope that's OK?
Dunks (talk) 13:36, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Which way to go? I've seen a lot of Ever lovin' and don't know why but I've preferred Everlovin'. What does Dan say?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:24, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not such a simple question. Labels can get things wrong, e.g. some early labels got Gerry's last name incorrect (extra 'e' in there). The Loved One's Magic Box album song list has both Ever lovin' and Everlovin' depending on record company and year of issue. APRA has both but doesn't show apsotrophe. McF, Milesago, ARDb, Long Way To the Top likes no space while Nimmervoll goes for both depending on his article vs discography. This discography at NFSA goes for both (space for the single not spaced for album track?).shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:05, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Another EP?[edit]

While looking through the NFSA pdf. I noticed W&G EP E-2744 called Loved Ones with "Sad Dark Eyes", "A Love Like Ours", "The Loverly Car", and "Love Song". This looks to be another EP, which was released in 1967? Article history here shows it was deleted on 12 April 2010. Can you find any another source for this second EP?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:26, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, the one you're talking about was W&G EP E-2712 and like you say is sometimes listed as The Loved Ones but is also known as Blueberry Hill for the new track on it. It was released in late 1966 and Go-Set chart ref lists it as Blueberry Hill EP in summer of 1966–1967. Milesago, McF, Nimmervoll and Holmgren all use Blueberry Hill for this EP. The one I'm talking about is called Loved Ones and has a different catalogue number and the four different tracks listed above. It would have been released after Lynch left in May 1967 (two of its tracks are co-written with De Lacy), possibly after "Love Song" was released in August 1967. However, none of Milesago, McF, Nimmervoll or Holmgren list this second EP. Too bad Spencer website no longer works: could have checked there: do you have access to his book?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:45, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dates of birth[edit]

I haven't found a source for any of the dates of birth. I've mostly tried to track Gerry's dob the initial editor was Eric A. Warbuton in the form of 19/7/44 back in 16 March 2006. However different years of birth are implied for Gerry by Milesago obituary, Patrick Donovan at The Age obituary and so on. I've put a query on Dunks page. Do you have any further info on their dobs?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:12, 6 October 2010 (UTC) Tweakshaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:33, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Cruel Sea, The Honeymoon Is Over[edit]

Dan, rumour has it that ARIA awarded a 'Producer of the Year' to Tony Cohen in 1994 for his work on The Cruel Sea's album, The Honeymoon Is Over. However as the ARIA website has no information on any winners of 'Producer of the Year' in the years, 1989 to 1994 I did not include them in the wikipedia article(s). Cohen wins the award in 1995 but his work(s) are not specified for that year. References for the 1994 award win for Cohen/The Cruel Sea are available at:

  1. Australian Music Awards, where Ron Jeff lists other winners as Doug Brady (1989), Alan Wright (1990), Doug Brady and David Nicholas (1991), Simon Hussey for Slave by James Reyne (1992), and Simon Hussey (1993). Cohen is credited with the 1994 win but no further details are available here.
  2. Billboard magazine on 16 April 1994, has the article, "New Artists, Indie Labels Dominate Australian Music Awards" written by Glenn A. Baker with the following quote, "Innovative alternative band the Cruel Sea, unknown to the mainstream even a year ago, took home statues in five of the record-setting 10 categories in which it was nominated: best group, best album, best single, song of the year, and producer of the year for Tony Cohen, all for the album The Honeymoon Is Over and its title track". As far as I'm concerned this nails it for the award win. Note that the ARIA website entry for 1994 only has four wins for The Cruel Sea from seven nominations. On 11 June, Baker (and Thom Duffy) tell us that they received two nominations in the same category (not specified) see Billboard article p 8 and p 88.

I don't know why ARIA fails to list 'Producer of the Year' winners for those missing years. Also, if Cohen's win in 1995 was for work with The Cruel Sea (he was their producer for Three Legged Dog) then they should be credited with another award win.

Could you provide your learned opinion, to determine whether we should adjust the ARIA awards pages, and The Cruel Sea, Tony Cohen and The Honeymoon Is Over articles.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 20:43, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Another ref, if you need further convincing, is at the Soulshine profile on The Cruel Sea.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:20, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Art vs. Science[edit]

Ha, no worries - I'll fix them up if you don't beat me to it. I know how to do them :) Teachingwedge (talk) 05:58, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What is their second single? "Hollywood" or "Parlez-Vous Francais?"? For that matter, what is their first single? Inquiring minds want to know.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:00, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think technically, according to the charts, their first "Single" is their EP, "Art vs Science"... although I agree that this isn't a satisfactory answer. The problem is that they've all received air-play on JJJ, and so it's hard to know what, if any, song was released as a single irrespective the EP. There are certainly no sources on the internet which I can readily find to answer this question. I think that the current list of "singles" in the article is correct. That is, I don't think Hollywood was released as a single. However, this is entirely my own opinion and I have no facts to support this (although note it was not me that inserted the current list of "singles"). Also, note on the article for the Art vs. Science EP that Parles vous francais is listed as the first single. Finally, I would note that the AVS official website notes that they have a "new single" being "Friend in the Field" - so at least there if a reference for that as a single. Sorry this isn't much help, but unfortunately I think the best options we have are:
  1. Delete the reference to singles and be satisfied with the references to EPs; or
  2. Keep what we already have in there and hope some references can turn up for the first or second single.

Teachingwedge (talk) 01:16, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Guys, I've moved part of this to the AVS talk page so we can continue the discussion there. Teachingwedge (talk) 01:42, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dave Graney[edit]

I've already started working on Dave Graney but there's a lot of extraneous material under the Discography section (from Dave_Graney#with The White Buffaloes onwards) that should be greatly reduced or spun off into separate articles per album. If you have time, could you swing by to assist? I'm going to tackle the main text (I had wandered off for awhile) from Night of the Wolverine onwards.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:36, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good, as you can see I've already started working on the Biography sectn. It can be further sub-divided. Some of the remaining Biog sectn requires further Tone & NPOV work. I moved the Moodists info from the discog sectn to the Moodists own article.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 09:20, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've got a problem with a last name for Tony: is it Mahony or Mahoney? ARIA has both! ABC has Mahoney. But Graney's website has Mahony. I've already changed it from Mahony to Mahoney after I saw the ABC article but now I'm not so sure.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:08, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

APRA changes its search engine[edit]

The changes are mostly for the good, with searches possible by artist and writer not just song title. However the given url is not useful for Wikipedia when identifying a specific song: it goes to the last one searched for or to the generic search engine.

e.g. http://www.apra.com.au/cms/worksearch/worksearch.srvlt?action=workSearch#

or http://www.apra.com.au/cms/worksearch/worksearch.srvlt#GW07192646

Using these urls means that further details need to then be added or selected by the user. The ref with a more specific url e.g.

(Dave Graney) – 3:45

seems to work. When you have time can you use the new APRA engine to verify the song's writers at You Wanna Be There But You Don't Wanna Travel. Some GA/FA reviewers may want a direct url rather than the generic url where the user has to supply further information.

Maximum output for a search is now 750, e.g. try "Rain", you should get 1371 hits. Refining search by adding performer: DRAGON get you a more manageable four returns. I don't know how to specify this in the url.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 21:08, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Main article needs more work[edit]

BTW, the main article is still a work in progress with much of the commentary in the latter half of discography sectn to be deleted or subsumed into main txt. Also check out the quote for Music: I believe it is Lord Byron describing Beau Brummell in the early 1800s and has no direct relevance to Graney. I can't find a reliable source for it. As it is the quote just hangs there with no description of its relation to Graney: it probably needs to be deleted.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 20:58, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List of active drive-in theatres in Australia[edit]

Good job with the sourcing. I still think it'd be better to merge it to the Drive-in theater article since that article presently covers only American drive-ins. This would preserve the most valid info and remove the debatable directory listing — precedent in the List of active drive-ins article was that we should not have a directory of active drive-ins because there was no feasible way to verify it, nor is Wikipedia a directory.  Done, now at User:Dan arndt/Nonzero Records. You are right, it would not have hurt for the discussion to run a little bit longer - but why don't you take this opportunity now to first work on improving the sourcing and referencing standards of the page in this draft space, for now, in order to have that quality improvement itself argue for satisfying WP:NOTE. JB now B but could be G?[edit]

Done my JB bit. If you're going for GA, you'll need to do more: further verifying of claims, three (not more) sound samples, quotes from others about his style of music/songwriting (but not too many or too long) and more relevant details of his personal life. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:25, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quro[edit]

Hi Dan, noticed you added 'Quro' to the notable artist list for Australian Hip Hop, this category is already out of hand and I feel a lot of these marginal entries should probably be left out unless absolutely necessary, the category is only going to grow not shrink with the current policy (that is - any article, even a stub, constitutes notability) and in this case I think with the potential for an AFD for that article on the cards it's best to leave it out for neatness and continuities sake. File permission problem with File:Cat Empire (Darwin).jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Cat Empire (Darwin).jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Logan Talk Contributions 23:55, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dialectrix[edit]

thanks Dan, I've added some references and info to the article. (it prob still needs some formatting work) I'm not sure where I should help argue the case. the talk page? he has collabed on M-Phazes album which won an Aria, and he was in DUB Crew who were first hip hop crew to win triple j's unearthed comp back in 2004. not sure if these are relevant. & his releases are on Obese (he's in Gully Platoon also with Pegz who runs Obese - they're friends). on Wikipedia:MUSIC, Criteria for musicians and ensembles I think he'd match these ones:

  1. 5. Has released two or more albums on a major label or on one of the more important indie labels (i.e., an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of whom are notable). (Obese would be the largest independent Australian hip hop label & he's had 2x solo albums + the gully platoon album)
  2. 9. Has won or placed in a major music competition. (if triple j unearthed 2004 counts as this? I think for independent Australian music it's one of the few awards available to artists)

I found a few reviews with intro/profiles. none in the academic publications (yet), so not sure if they'd count for #1. hope this helps. will take another look over the weekend Kathodonnell (talk) 16:00, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for your words Dan :) I think you're doing a great job too - very inspiring! I've seen your name on many of the articles I've come across. I like reading the books and have some at home so figured it would be useful to use them for articles if I see something relevant. and some friends-of-friends know some of the people, so I can ask around and see if they have media clippings which sometimes points in the right direction for finding articles if my own searching isn't finding much. love Trove too - it searches all the libraries for me - a true national library treasure! is there an easy way to keep across which of the Aus music articles go up for AfD? I'm watching some but maybe there's more. I'm happy to help with anything you need a hand with too. just sometimes away from my books/libraries when on work trips. PK per FAC: round 2[edit]

Where's the year gone? It's now a year later, time to pick ourselves up off the mat, take the eight count and get back into the bout. I still think PK deserves to be FA. No AUSMUS article has been made FA for over two years! If you're interested then lets have another go at it. As I see it the first step is to webcite everything that can be webcited and hasn't been otherwise Archived. Then send the article to Copy Editors, then Peer Review, then check refs again, and finally go for FA. The whole process will take considerable time and commitment: so what do you say, Dan?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:00, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WebCite[edit]

I'm currently Webciting the non-archived refs to prevent link rot. I updated the Infobox (a slightly different template with slightly different styles required). Jump on-board whenever you can.shaidar cuebiyar ([[User talk:Shaidar cuebiyar

Other archives?[edit]

I've tried WebCite for all non-archived refs but found that some are not easily archived. This appears to occur particularly on websites that redirect to sub-pages: the sub-pages don't always appear on the WebCite image. Examples include about half of the ARIA refs and one of the Billboard refs. There may be more that need archiving: could you check all url links to see how they work and whether any have problems.

Next steps[edit]

  1. After finishing WebCiting, I added a little information on Hilary Brown from Kelly's memoir. Check it carefully for relevance and clarity.
  2. I'm going to run an AusEng spelling/grammar check later today or next day or so.
  3. Once we're happy with its current shape. Put it up at CopyEditors, then Peer Review, then finally up for FAC.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:46, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Add APRA now or wait?[edit]

Great news! If you're going to add it now, don't forget to Webcite the ref.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:11, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help with archiving needed[edit]

The following refs are currently not archived. Could you have a try to see if you can do so?

  1. General ref: Doyle. Chapter 10. Original is at Google books but it does not always display the required pages.
  2. General ref: Leser. Its a PDF.
  3. Ref no. [58] ARIA website is changed fairly regularly and in some cases information goes missing (e.g. see HoF below, where the main site only listed those from 2010 back to 1999). This ref gives all of his ARIA noms & wins.
  4. Ref no. [83]. This is the one I replaced with an older file (2008 version) which does give PK as HoF. Does not need to be changed.
  5. Ref no. [92]. Trove search results.
  6. Ref no. [100]. Billboard one I have trouble with.
  7. Ref no. [106]. Speigeltent ref.
  8. Ref no. [134]. I have trouble here, it just tells me a list exists but I can't access it.
  9. Ref no. [168]. Another ARIA prob, this time for DanK.
  10. Ref no. [169]. ARIA HoF prob. Pandora archive worked.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:19, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How's the refs going?[edit]

Just checking to see how the refs are going? Aside from the above, any new material needs archiving too. As you know, I've been working on Eskimo Joe while waiting for PK.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:22, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on others' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. notifying users who clearly are going to vote the same way as you is clearly canvassing. WAMi refs?[edit]

Jebediah needs some WAMi refs. I've got a ref for their 2011 award but the earlier ones back to 1996 are harder to track on-line. The official WAMi website only gives info back to 2009. Can you help find a reliable source for the early ones?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:39, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Further PR comments from Ruhrfisch: I think I've covered all of these but could you run your eye over them to see whether we have any more to do. If you think its okay, then we can put it up for FA when you are ready to jump in.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:20, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
