Please note that the cited reference ([1]) makes it clear that Ryan used the M1 carbine at the filling station, not the AK-47. The cited reference is the official police report into the shootings, and it is notable that in the recent BBC documentary about the event, Ryan was shown using this weapon in this particular instance.
