[edit]

Are you planning on creating a page for her? Her name was intentionally left unlinked, along with the other production designers' names: they're not notable, and don't deserve Wikipedia articles. In any case, the first mention of her name should be the one linked, and that is in the section above. Cheers! Robert K S 00:54, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

Heh, thanks for the tip. I'm wavering on it. I try to avoid vandalism involving PA's — unless they're really off the wall. I haven't decided how high leprechauns score on the bizarre scale for me yet. Anyway, thanks for sending it my way, I got a laugh out of it. Tijuana Brass 01:26, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD

[edit]

Thank you for your help and support in the AfD discussion for Heinen's Fine Foods. Recently reviewing this article, which I originally created, I was completely shocked to learn that it was nominated for deletion. About 7 months ago, I spent a great deal of time and energy putting the article together, fighting for its presence in Wikipedia, and lastly editing it to meet aspects of both neutrality and notability. I cannot believe that it could so quickly be nominated for deletion and even considered by some as possible db-spam. I agree that perhaps parts of the article were written in a way that lacked neutrality, but I do not think the additional sections were pieces of advertisement. I especially find it ridiculous that once again others tried to support its deletion, claiming non-notability. However, I understand the relative difficulty in meeting Wikipedia standards and I understand that it is not uncommon for members to challenge the presence of an article. Dealing with the issue of advertisement, though, I do not see the reasoning behind the removal of the advertising slogan or the unique (uncommon to many grocery stores) services offered. As much as I should avoid comparing one article to others, I must point out that numerous articles dealing with grocery chains (national and local alike) provide information related to advertising, branding, and in-store services. Perhaps these parts of the Heinen's Fine Foods article were written incorrectly, and perhaps rewriting these sections would prove to settle the dispute behind the neutrality of the article. I am just afraid that in the condition it is in right now, the article will be nominated to AfD again for supposed non-notability. I read your suggestions in integrating the deleted information and I appreciate your support in the matter. The article needs some deal of work in the information it contains and in its overall structure. Any further support or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again. Orphaned non-free image (Image:PerrysburgOhioSeal.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:PerrysburgOhioSeal.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 03:56, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, DangApricot. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:DivisionOfLiquorControl.PNG) was found at the following location: User:DangApricot. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 00:43, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I followed a link from Image:FairfieldOhioSeal.png (the city seal of Fairfield, Ohio) to your user page where I found that you have a whole gallery of seals. I'm not sure if you're aware, but according to the Non-free content criteria policy, fair use images aren't allowed on user pages. There are copyright issues involved and it's not a case of Wikipedia (or me!) just making arbitrary rules. I know you're proud of the images you've uploaded, but you should really erase that gallery from your user page. Sorry to have to tell you about this. —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 17:39, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FairfieldOhioSeal.png removed from your user page

[edit]
An image or media file, Image:FairfieldOhioSeal.png, has been removed from your userpage or user talk page because it was licensed as fair use. Wikipedia's fair use policy states that fair use images should only be used in the article namespace. As a result, although users are often given a great amount of latitude in the type of content that is allowed on their user pages, it is requested that you abide by this policy. Feel free, however, to add images and media files licensed under other terms. For more information, see Wikipedia's fair use policy and an accompanying essay on the removal of fair use images. Thank you for your cooperation.

I'm not going to clutter up your talk page with all of them, but I have changed all the images of seals used on your page into links people can click to see the images. Thank you for your understanding, and my apologies for having to mess around with your user page. —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 14:53, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Stow-Kent Shopping Center

I have nominated Stow-Kent Shopping Center, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stow-Kent Shopping Center. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. WikiProject Ohio Newsletter

Issue II - May 2008
From the editor:

Here's Issue II of the project newsletter. We're trying to decide if this is sinking or floating. If you would like to contribute to next month's newsletter please jump right in at the News Desk! Have a great May.

The Ohio Portal

The maintainers of the Ohio Portal are looking to get it to featured status. They would like to ask all project members to help improve it any way they can. What needs to be done most is the supplying of selected articles and images.

Selected Article: Indian Head Rock

There is a eight ton rock in Ohio that was removed from the Ohio River. This rock is known as the Indian Head Rock Dating back to the early 1800’s, this rock was seen sticking out of the Ohio River and used as a navigational mark for barges along the river. The names of citizens from the town of Portsmouth, Ohio are carved into the rock from the late nineteenth a early twentieth centuries. Some of the names were of well known families from Ohio. They would swim out to the rock, have their picture taken with it or simply carve their names into it.
With the advent of the Locks and Dams along the Ohio River, the rock eventually was submerged, but the legend lived on. A gentleman from Ironton, Ohio located the rock after searching a very long time for it, and he and a crew of scuba divers recovered the rock and took it to the shore to be donated to Ohio for historical value.
After hearing the news about the rock being removed, Kentucky introduced legislation against the removal of the rock. They also want the diver who found it to be prosecuted for removing the rock. Kentucky owns the greatest part of the land the river runs on. Even the Army Corp. of Engineers got involved as to how to move the rock without damaging it. Kentucky wants to have it returned to the river.

Getting the Project Moving
  • WikiProject Ohio as an entity doesn't have as much action as other state projects. For this reason it has been proposed that the inactive WikiProject Ohio Townships be added as our taskforce. There is a !poll going on at WT:OH and your opinion is essential in the matter!
  • Stepshep has also proposed sending an invite to everyone in Category:Wikipedians in Ohio with an invite to join the project. If you are already a member you would not receive the notice of course. Once again, please note your opinion on the project talkpage.

The Central Avenue Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located at 201 to 338 Central Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. It consists of late 19th and 20th Century Revival-style houses as well as late Victorian-style houses, which were all originally single-family residences.

On December 16, 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Each month a new Ohio related stub is the selected article. If you have a new stub created feel free to nominate it at the NewsDesk.

Please join the discussion at the link below and share your thoughts. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Bloomingdale's locations It is my opinion that these lists, as long as they are not extremely long (more than 100 stores or so) and can be sourced, are a great addition to the article. Hopefully, we can build a consensus that agrees with us. PanzaM22 (talk) 19:17, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Mike[reply]

Raleigh Haberdasher list

[edit]

Thank you for readding the former locations for Raleigh Haberdasher that were deleted under the "Wikipedia is not a directory" dictum. It took me many hours of research in historical newspapers to compile that list and to see to suddenly disappear without any notice was quite a surprise to me!! Best wishes ... Ted--Pubdog (talk) 01:00, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Unfortunately it looks like we have lost in this push to have lists of former locations published on Wikipedia in the name of history. In the future I suggest citing your newspaper findings so it has something to fall back on when you are accused of original research. --DangApricot (talk) 19:04, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:HillsboroOhioSeal.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:HillsboroOhioSeal.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:03, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Store lists

[edit]

I very much appreciate your resurrecting the discussion of store lists. The crux of their argument seems to be what the scope is ... i.e. does Wikipedia really need a list of all the Sears locations, or former Circuit City stores? Now, it seems to have shifted to issues of documentation. My reason for listing Hecht's, AM&A's, Hengerer's and other defunct department store locations was to document them and their successor stores at various mall and other locations. It seemed to me to be a piece of retail history that was not well documented, with memories of these defunct chains quickly disappearing in this retail monolith we now call "Macys." This argument unfortunately seems to have fallen on deaf ears by the likes of Schuminweb and Tenpoundhammer. They seem to be hell bent on interprenting whatever the Bloomingdale conclusion was in favor of their opinion. I read the discussion and in my eyes it was inconclusive. You win some and lose some. I have had a much more positive and satisfying experience working on NRHP sites. Best wishes--Pubdog (talk) 00:04, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:NewLebanonOhioSeal.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:NewLebanonOhioSeal.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Cliff Hangers is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cliff Hangers (3rd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Ohio Wikimedians User Group - Invitation

[edit]

Hi DangApricot,

I'm Kevin, one of the founding members of the Ohio Wikimedians User Group. Created in July 2016, we're working to be a central group of Ohio Wikimedians who organize and support offline events, promote the Wikimedia movement in Ohio, build connections throughout our state, and above all, support each other. We already have a handful of members and have worked to support multiple events, including Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States and several Art+Feminism edit-a-thons at universities throughout Ohio.

I wanted to reach out to you and invite you to join the Ohio Wikimedians User Group. Being a part of the user group will allow easy communication between active Ohio editors, notifications of upcoming events in the Ohio area, and, if you're interested, the opportunity to help organize events such as edit-a-thons or workshops. Some notes:

  • All members receive a monthly newsletter with recent happenings, upcoming events, and more. Check out our April newsletter here.
  • This Thursday at 8:30 EST, we're having our first online meeting. Check out our meeting page here for more details, an agenda, and a section to sign up if you'd like to join us. Topics will include introductions and brainstorming for future projects.

Right now we have a Wikipedia Takes Columbus photo event going on, a Wiknic coming up this summer, and opportunities to attend the upcoming Ohio Private Academic Libraries Conference. If you're interested in joining us, feel free to add your name here - and feel free to reach out to me (or post on the user group's talk page) with questions or discussions. A tag has been placed on Category:Official seals of places in Vermont requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion".
