Help[edit]

Hello, it appears that you need some help. Could you please describe exactly what content you find objectionable? Thanks! Bestagon ⬡ 19:07, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks so much for your reply, I really appreciate it. It is not that I find the current content objectionable, because the copy that made no sense has now been taken down (again, thank you). What I find objectionable is that a user know as Toddy1 is repeatedly editing Danielle's page (which I am working on on behalf of Danielle, with her permission). I added some trivia yesterday, which she should like on the page, along with a cited source (IMDB - the information was added by her agent) and he has removed it. He has been pestering her in this manner for years and both myself and Danielle would like him blocked from endlessly editing her page. He doesn't know Danielle and has no link to her. Having to constantly monitor her page in case Toddy1 has changed things is causing some distress. Daniellenavy (talk) 16:25, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
IMDB is not a reliable source. Please see WP:IMDB. Likewise, knowing Danielle does not help you as you have a connection to her. Writing about someone you know is discouraged. Trivia is discouraged. What we require in an article is information gleaned from reliable and independent sources. Please read the information at those links to start becoming more familiar with our policies. - UtherSRG (talk) 18:30, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm an administrator here. Please read about conflict of interest. It is more accurate to think of this as a Wikipedia article about Danielle, not "her page". Danielle(or her representatives) have no more rights to the article than any other editor(see WP:OWN), even as the subject, any more than Danielle could dictate what The New York Times or CNN choose to write about her.
What a subject wants on the article about them is not irrelevant, but they may not exclusively dictate what appears there, unlike social media. Article content is determined by a consensus among editors, preferably based in Wikipedia guidelines. If Danielle/her representatives would like to see something edited into the article, they should first begin a discussion on the talk page, in the form of an edit request, detailing what they wish to do and seeking consensus.
IMDB is not considered an acceptable source on Wikipedia, as it is user-editable, so it was correctly removed. Wikipedia does not host "trivia", it summarizes what independent reliable sources say about a topic.
There is no requirement that someone know an article subject personally in order to edit about it. In fact, there are more rules if people want to contribute about a subject they are personally involved in(the aforementioned conflict of interest policy). Users are not blocked from an article merely to prevent them from contributing to it, there must be demonstratable disruption such as vandalism or edit warring, which isn't the case here. You need to work with anyone interested in the article to get a consensus. 331dot (talk) 18:33, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
'IMDB is not considered an acceptable source on Wikipedia, as it is user-editable (AS IS WIKIPEDIA?), so it was correctly removed. Wikipedia does not host "trivia", it summarizes what independent reliable sources say about a topic.'
It is not trivia, it is factual. Also, I would suggest that Danielle herself is a reliable source? Daniellenavy (talk) 13:30, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely not. People often don't recall or related the details of their lives accurately. Please familiarize yourself with our policies before making further edits. Did you read WP:IMDB linked above? Did you read reliable sources or independent sources, two of our most foundational policies? Did you read conflict of interest linked above? You should not be editing the article directly at this point since you have stated that you are Bux's representative; ie you have a conflict of interest. You should instead be suggesting edits on the talk page of the article, using the {{edit COI}} template. UtherSRG (talk) 13:50, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I have already done this.

Are you kidding me? I am working directly to help the person whose page is being repeatedly changed by any another user, who she keeps editing her page. I have not made a single disruptive edit. If I have please can you let me know what it is? I removed a source linked to a very old interview about something she was asked about recently in a professional capacity. She asked me personally to remove it because she found it very distressing. In the same way literally anyone can add what they like to people's Wikipedia pages, why should the subject not remove something they are finding upsetting? Daniellenavy (talk) 00:30, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am not her representative. I am her friend, trying to protect her from the distress a source on her page is causing her, as well as what I would consider to be a troll who has written untrue things about her. If you re-read what I originally wrote you will note that at no point did I say I was her representative. So a complete stranger can write things that she finds upsetting, and a yet a friend trying to help her cannot? Daniellenavy (talk) 00:34, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please see the original message I sent and highlight where I have referred to myself as her representative? I am merely trying to help her out and now I am being punished! I find this all incredible shocking. Daniellenavy (talk) 00:36, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
