Tripping the SPI abuse filter

Obviously you have no power over this, but the two times I've tried to report a suspected sockpuppet I've triggered the abuse filter. From your own experience, what would you say am I not quite getting when making a report? Do I need to bump the wordcount up a bit more? Thepenguin9 (talk) 18:25, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

@Thepenguin9online: I won't say too much, but once your account is older you won't trigger it anymore. Dat GuyTalkContribs 12:52, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
I shall lay off for a while then and let some other sorry soul report them. Thanks! Thepenguin9 (talk) 12:55, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Updating WikiWork for WikiProject assessment tables?

Hello! According to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:WP_1.0_bot/WikiWork/all&offset=&limit=500&action=history it looks like DatBot was being used to update the WikiWork table for WP1.0 WikiProject project assessment tables. As of June 2019 that seemed to stop, and WikiWork is not mentioned on the bot's page. Was this stoppage intentional? Can you point me to some of the discussion around why updates were halted? And do you have the code available that performed this work in the past, so that I could potentially resurrect it? Thanks, audiodude (talk) 22:42, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

@Audiodude: Error seems to have started when I moved projects from Python2 to Python3. I'll rewrite the code and re enable the task when it's done. Dat GuyTalkContribs 10:46, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
Audiodude The number 4400 is hardcoded for something but I'm not sure what. Does it ring a bell? Dat GuyTalkContribs 14:42, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
No 4400 doesn't mean anything to me, but I never worked on the original WikiWork calculations. There are about 2500 projects, I know that. audiodude (talk) 20:38, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

JPEG artifacts during non-free content size reduction

I've noticed that DatBot seems to introduce JPEG artifacts when reducing the size of a non-free file, such as here (file is not available as an SVG, alas). Is there any way to minimize this? Sdkb (talk) 19:47, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

@Sdkb: Three days ago I increased the quality of jpeg files, to hopefully try and make resized text more readable. If you see more obvious cases of artifacts, mention me and I'll undo the change. Dat GuyTalkContribs 20:29, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

File:"Try To Remember" nondominant seventh chords.png

The grand staff has two five line staffs, top and bottom

The File:"Try To Remember" nondominant seventh chords.png has been reduced in size so that the notation is not fully depicted and thus not fully legible. Specifically, the lines of the bottom stave are completely gone. Is there something we could to fix this? For instance, I could upload the image with only Roman numeral analysis (omitting the chord symbols above the score) if that would help. Hyacinth (talk) 11:19, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

@Hyacinth: You're saying the resize cropped some of the image? That's weird. Do you have a reference to the original? Dat GuyTalkContribs 13:47, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
Original — JJMC89(T·C) 18:46, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
No, the problem is not that the image was cropped, but that part of the image has been erased. Akin to:
A line of text
and
A line
I created the image and I own the book that is cited as the source of the image on Nondominant seventh chord. Hyacinth (talk) 00:15, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
@Hyacinth: I believe I've found and fixed the issue, the problem was with the resizing filter: "If you're resizing to 1/5 of the original size for example, it will output one pixel and throw out the next 4 - a one-pixel wide line has only a 1 out of 5 chance of showing up at all in the result." Dat GuyTalkContribs 14:18, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
You have found the cause, but the image isn't fixed or changed in anyway. Hyacinth (talk) 03:15, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
@JJMC89:, could you revert to the last correct version and let the bot run again? Thanks. Dat GuyTalkContribs 07:37, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
 Done — JJMC89(T·C) 21:48, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
Nice. I thank you both. Hyacinth (talk) 19:51, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

Ten times bigger

Please take a look File:Pimania in-game screenshot (ZX81 version).png#filehistory — Preceding unsigned comment added by Polluks (talkcontribs) 18:26, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

I have moved this file to File:Pimania screenshot (ZX81).png due to Commons shadowing, FYI. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 02:03, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
@Polluks: Unfortunately due to the filter I use now I must convert all images to rgb. Is there something inherently wrong with the file size being a bit bigger? Dat GuyTalkContribs 08:38, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
Well, let's call it suboptimal. Maybe you can make it grayscale again after converting? -- Polluks 10:30, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

Background changes when reducing

When DatBot reduced File:Armée Patriotique Rwandaise BC logo.png it also changed the background from transparent to black. — JJMC89(T·C) 00:14, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

The background of File:FC Isle of Man crest.png was changed too. — JJMC89(T·C) 00:19, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
There were a few of them and I've manually processed the ones I spoted. Some backgrounds were black, some are dark green. It looks like whatever went wrong happened after March 15th, because the uploads on that day were fine. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 01:46, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Should all be fixed for next run. Dat GuyTalkContribs 13:39, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
This is still an issue so I've disabled the task. Example: File:Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne logo.png — JJMC89(T·C) 03:46, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
@JJMC89: So, the transparency mask doesn't get transferred. What I've done now is only enabled it for 1-bit black and white pixel images, 8-pit b&w, and 8-bit specific colour palette. However, it does mean that it may increase file size on CMYK and other more uncommon colour modes. If that's satisfactory I'll let you re-enable the task. Dat GuyTalkContribs 13:23, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
Let's see how it goes. — JJMC89(T·C) 00:05, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
File:FC Sydvest 05 logo.png had also its transparent background changed to black. I reverted the edit.Jonteemil (talk) 15:40, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

There seems to be quite a lot of files so I just gonna list them all:

I also found a few files that DatBot made green:

Jonteemil (talk) 15:45, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

I've fixed three of the above — JJMC89(T·C) 00:01, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
@JJMC89: Perfect. I've reverted the rest so I guess the bot will have another try when it's up and running again.Jonteemil (talk) 11:17, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
Hello! There are also a few files that DatBot has made white, which I have reverted, see Special:ListFiles/Jonteemil. These have previous versions suppressed and have white background so they might have been incorrectly scaled down:
- Jonteemil (talk) 11:57, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
I've fixed all but two. Those two were not originally transparent. — JJMC89(T·C) 23:54, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
