Flagged Revs

Hi,

I noticed you voted oppose in the flag revs straw pole and would like to ask if you would mind adding User:Promethean/No to your user or talk page to make your position clear to people who visit your page :) - Thanks to Neurolysis for the template   «l| Ψrometheăn ™|l»  (talk) 06:38, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Reply, not at this time. I am basicly in favor of the test and concept, but NOT until the defaults notices are changed prior to any testing of any live pages; so that no IP user would have to deal with this during the testing stage. If the test is simply in a sandbox format, special test pages only, no live pages; I would vote in favor of the test at this time. My POV is that it needs to be as clear as possible to new users that they are looking at a older "approved"? page and not the current "draft" page; with clear directions on how to edit the "draft" page, if they want to edit. All these support pages need to be developed prior to any testing of live pages that the general public would be accessing as part of the encyclopedia. Dbiel (Talk) 21:04, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject).

I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.

If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!

If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.

Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 23:44, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

need help finding a history entry

{{helpme}}

I am trying to find the history entry for the following post

- CharlotteWebb 01:16, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

found at Wikipedia talk:Flagged revisions/Trial/Votes but have been unable to do so. It appears that a lot of the history has been deleted. I would like to confirm the edit summary, if any and if this is the entire original post, or if part of it got deleted as it got move one or more times. Thank you Dbiel (Talk) 03:18, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Dbiel. There's no deleted history, though I can understand why finding the post was difficult and you were led to believe there was. What happened is that the page was created via a copy and paste from another page with existing text (you can make this out from the earliest edit summary in the page's history, which states: "Votes page to make the talk less huge". This was not a properly done per the GFDL, which requires when we move text like this, just as in a merge, that the edit summary for the new page clearly state where it comes from and the edit summary on the original page is likewise supposed to state where the removed text is going. In any event, the prior page is Wikipedia talk:Flagged revisions/Trial and the diff for that edit is here. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:49, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the help. I see where I got lost. I went back to the wrong parent page. For some stupid reason, after not finding it at the new location, I went back to the main parent Wikipedia talk:Flagged revisions instead of the real parent Wikipedia talk:Flagged revisions/Trial Dbiel (Talk) 04:11, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Ken Pauls Milano

{{helpme}} I am afraid I do not know how to handle the following article Ken Pauls Milano it is definately a self promo piece. Its creator and primary editor (and probably only editor) is User:KPMilano as the only other editor is User:65.7.194.134; which I beleive to be the same person). Also the User:KPMilano user page has been turned into a redirect to the article page. Style and format are definately not Wikipedia. Tempted to put a speedy delete on it, but not sure that is the right approach. Dbiel (Talk) 11:28, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. I actually just came across that article too. I've nominated it for CSD under section G11 as blatant advertising. Your gut instinct was right. Best regards. --Chasingsol(talk) 11:40, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Dbiel

Hi Dbiel, thanks for your message. I will add a block message. Thanks -- Samir 07:33, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

I also replied at User talk:BettyStokes. I will try to find her newspaper articles, I started by asking for her to submit a full bibliography for them. The copyvio if of her own work, so I asked her to do the wikipedia let them know it is her work and she wants it two places online. I don't live in Kentucky, so will probably have to contact the library for the news articles in question, but she has tried to add awards and newsarticles in response to the request that weren't there originally, so maybe with all the awards and newspaper articles it may have a chance of survival...will see. Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 06:00, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Well I did what I could, eliminated direct copy vio of the history book Betty wrote, but referred to it in a citation, left her other content, however unverified unless the library contacts me. Maybe the article Trunnell Elementary School will survive, maybe not. SriMesh | talk 18:36, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Northwood School (Durban North, South Africa)

Regarding this edit to Northwood School (Durban North, South Africa): please see http://www.nwood.co.za/downloads.aspx?id=General and point the mouse to the list; they all point to http://www.northwoodschool.co.za/* . --Joshua Issac (talk) 13:17, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

It would appear that both domains are now valid duplicates, so it really does not matter which one you want to use as the official since there is no reference made to either site by the school as being official. But one point still leaning toward nwood.co.za as being the official site is the contact link found on the admissions page http://www.northwoodschool.co.za/pg.aspx?id=10 which opens up an email addressed to "marketing@nwood.co.za" So I would still tend to consider nwood as being official. Previously northwoodschool was redirecting to nwood so it may be that they are still in an transition process of changing the original official site to a new official site, or it could just be a duplicate or backup site. Anyway, if you wish to change it back, I have no objection. Posting both main links for reference below:

As outlined at Wikipedia:VIO#Instructions, if you mark an article with db-copyvio then you should not blank the page in this instance. This provides the admin with prompt access to the alleged offending page and allows for prompt deletion of the article if warranted. Blanking is only used where the speedy deletion criteria do not apply. Regards, WWGB (talk) 13:46, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on User:Gtdigital/Gordian Group, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because User:Gtdigital/Gordian Group is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting User:Gtdigital/Gordian Group, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Boys Town

{{helpme}} The following posting on my user page appears to have some merit, but I am not in position to address it at this time and I am not sure how to best handle this request. Any suggestions? Dbiel (Talk) 02:31, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi, My name is Pat Thoms & im a youth worker at Boys town Engadine.

I would like to request that the tittle be changed for "Boys Town" Engadine (juvenile detention centre)

Boys town Engadine is far from a Detention centre, It is a voluntary service for families at risk of family breakdown, who are committed to improving their relationships, Boys/family choose to be a part of the program & are not forced or advised by courts/laws.

Could it be changed to something like...

Boys Town (residential school for boys with behavioural issues) or

Boys Town (Residential Family Preservation and Restoration)

119.12.158.42 (talk) 14:11, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Pat Thoms

OK, I'm looking into this now, and will reply here in a few minutes.  Chzz  ►  02:33, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Question: What is the official name of the organisation? As far as I can tell from the website, it's just 'Boys town'? It's just that I find the other suggestions a bit long and cumbersome.
How about, simply Boys town (Engadine) ? Would you be happy with that?
Please reply below; I'll be watching for it.  Chzz  ►  02:42, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
P.S. Are you user:Dbiel ? If so, you were not logged in when you left your help request; please could you log in when you reply. Thanks,  Chzz  ►  03:12, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
P.P.S. Shouldn't it be Boys' town with the apostrophe? And/or capital T (real name) ? So Boys' Town (Engadine) ?  Chzz  ►  03:20, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

(unindent) After waiting a couple of hours, I decided to be bold and make the change.

The page Boys Town (juvenile detention centre) has been moved to Boys' Town (Engadine). The old name will redirect to the new page.

I will also modify the disambiguation page Boys Town.

I will no longer be 'watching' this page, so if you do require further help, or indeed if you could help us improve the article, please either;

AfD nomination of Jayen Varma

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Jayen Varma. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jayen Varma (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:04, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

  • Need your suggestion

Need Opinion

Please refer to the above matter. I may bring to your notice that I had translated the article Jayen Varma in to Malayalam language. The same article has translation in Italian language also. Few users say Record Holders Republic is not a genuine body. But the following articles reveal that Record Holders Republic is also acceptable in Wikipedia. Doug Pruden Yard (beer) David Straitjacket Mohammad Faisal Lucky’s Lake Swim Paddy Doyle Liquid Blue. The article in question is also very much neutral since it only says “…..According to Record Holders Republic he is the..……”. Since you may be familiar with this matter, I request you to please contribute your suggestions to keep this article alive. Thanks.--Musicindia1 (talk) 09:22, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Please have a look

I had requested for your opinion about the article Jayen Varma which was deleted just now after a discussion. Please look in to it and do the needful to repost the article since you know the subject better. Thanks. --Musicindia1 (talk) 13:00, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Please do not recreate

Dear User,,I was silently listening to the discussions in the 2nd nomination of deletion of the article Jayen Varma. The article is deleted now. Since you are a user who is able to recreate it, I was of the view that the user might approach your page for support. I am absolutely right now when i saw his post here. So let me tell you that the article was deleted after the discussion in india related topics. The man in the article is not a notable person. He is not even a lead guitarist. he is only a bass guitarist. One of the learned users has commented that."...Apart from which, 36 slaps per second? So what? That's gimmickry not music...." and its just slapping the guitar unduely only. The recordholdersrepublic website is a doubtful source as it accepts submissions from anyone. So please refrain from recreating it as its a topic related to India and was discussed in detail. Cheers from India. --Firensafety (talk) 07:39, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

article: Read (magazine)

I removed this link from the article but it is somewhat related as it is a site featuring the work of one of the contributors refered to in this article. I am not sure if it should be included or not. Feedback is desired. The other link removed I posted this on the talk page of the article but would like to get some feedback as to if the link should or should not be included in the article. Thank you Dbiel (Talk) 05:40, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

I wouldn't include it, as it's only half-related and the person probably fails GNG. — Kudu ~I/O~ 14:43, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
I agree, I wouldn't include the link. Samwb123T-C-E 15:56, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Can you believe it?

Not really, he was just upset that you replied to a post by him directed to me. He is sure not doing himself any favors by the way he is handling this whole mess. Personally I believe that all users should be registered and not posting using IP addresses, but that is just my POV. Dbiel (Talk) 04:07, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
That would be a good solution, but for now the only viable solution is to block it, do you know about an admin. who can do that? i mean, it even acussed us in the incident's board. Carnotaurus044 (talk) 04:15, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
The blocking rules are over my head, we have posted it on the correct board. There are enough admins that read that board, that if a block is justified one of them will do it. At this point it is a wait and see game. Sorry I can not be of more help. Dbiel (Talk) 04:20, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
OK let's wait, i wish i were an administrator. Carnotaurus044 (talk) 04:25, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Impact

{{helpme}} I am a bit concerned about how the article Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Impact is delveloping and if it should even be considered as an acceptable article in Wikipedia. First of all it appears to be more of an add for a product to be released in the near furture (October) The one external link Game website is a japanesee language page of near zero value in an english encyclopedia. The other external link: Saiyan Island is a workaround to a black listed web site by using an invalid address that resolves to a page that provides a link to the black listed site. Also many of the wiki links are to unrelated pages. Personally I think the whole page should be deleted, but that is just my opionon. Dbiel (Talk) 04:17, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Nothing wrong with an opinion. You have three choices...
  1. Suggest speedy delete - see WP:CSD
  2. Propose deletion - see WP:PROD
  3. Start a deletion talk - see WP:AfD
Both 1 & 2 can be stopped by any editor (except original author), No.3 has to run a course of 7 day discussion. If you have enabled Twinkle in your Gadgets section of preferences then there should be extra menu items to do all of these  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:24, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 February newsletter

Round 1 is now over. The top 64 scorers have progressed to round 2, where they have been randomly split into eight pools of eight. At the end of April, the top two from each pool, as well as the 16 highest scorers from those remaining, will progress to round 3. Commiserations to those eliminated; if you're interested in still being involved in the WikiCup, able and willing reviewers will always be needed, and if you're interested in getting involved with other collaborative projects, take a look at the WikiWomen's Month discussed below.

Round 1 saw 21 competitors with over 100 points, which is fantastic; that suggests that this year's competition is going to be highly competative. Our lower scores indicate this, too: A score of 19 was required to reach round 2, which was significantly higher than the 11 points required in 2012 and 8 points required in 2011. The score needed to reach round 3 will be higher, and may depend on pool groupings. In 2011, 41 points secured a round 3 place, while in 2012, 65 was needed. Our top three scorers in round 1 were:

  1. Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), primarily for an array of warship GAs.
  2. London Miyagawa (submissions), primarily for an array of did you knows and good articles, some of which were awarded bonus points.
  3. New South Wales Casliber (submissions), due in no small part to Canis Minor, a featured article awarded a total of 340 points. A joint submission with Alaska Keilana (submissions), this is the highest scoring single article yet submitted in this year's competition.

Other contributors of note include:

Featured topics have still played no part in this year's competition, but once again, a curious contribution has been offered by British Empire The C of E (submissions): did you know that there is a Shit Brook in Shropshire? With April Fools' Day during the next round, there will probably be a good chance of more unusual articles...

March sees the WikiWomen's History Month, a series of collaborative efforts to aid the women's history WikiProject to coincide with Women's History Month and International Women's Day. A number of WikiCup participants have already started to take part. The project has a to-do list of articles needing work on the topic of women's history. Those interested in helping out with the project can find articles in need of attention there, or, alternatively, add articles to the list. Those interested in collaborating on articles on women's history are also welcome to use the WikiCup talk page to find others willing to lend a helping hand. Another collaboration currently running is an an effort from WikiCup participants to coordinate a number of Easter-themed did you know articles. Contributions are welcome!

A few final administrative issues. From now on, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Fair use issues with Kelly Monaco image

Hi. There is a fair use argument being brought to bear against an image of Kelly Monaco it looks like you were involved with back in 2008. The image has been in use on Sam_McCall since I believe 2005. The image was flagged when I attempted to link the same picture to the article Kelly_Monaco last night, which had no picture at that time, but has had a number of different pictures including the Sam McCall image since before 2005. See here for more info: Talk:Sam_McCall#Infobox_Image and Talk:Kelly_Monaco#Use_of_Kelly_Monaco_Image_from_Sam_McCall

I have had no involvement with the page or with the images since last night, so I would appreciate any input you might have on the issue. Thanks Jay Dubya (talk) 17:49, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
