A tag has been placed on User:Deborah L. Jacobs, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Wikipedia is not for advertising or promotion

Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

Portability in estate planning

Welcome, again, and best wishes for the new year. I am afraid there is rather a learning curve to Wikipedia, but there is plenty of advice available.

As an anyone-can-edit encyclopedia, Wikipedia is so vulnerable to being used for advertising and promotion that it is extremely sensitive to anything that looks like that. Hence our strong rules against editing with a WP:Conflict of interest, and the fact that anything that appears to be an advertisement is speedily deleted, even from user pages. If there is any thought in your mind that contributing to Wikipedia can be a way to help promote your book or your firm's services, forget that idea. However, an article about portability in estate planning might well be useful. I see one possible problem: you say that this is "a new term that is coming into use". As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia only reports on things that are already established. Our test is called notability, and requires showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." The test is, have other people, independent of the subject, thought it important and significant enough to write about? That rule means that articles on neologisms are seldom acceptable - see WP:NEO - unless evidence can be produced that the term is in wide enough use.
