Just as a way to help this page to get going, I'll give a quick summary of the beastmen races:

Orcish Empire: I don't really know much about San d'Orian stuff, so I don't know much about these guys. If I remember correctly, they care about power, and that's how the Kindred got them to join them. They originate from the Far North. Males and females seem to be treated equally.

Quadav (Kingdom? Adamantkingdom?): They care about status (they have a millitaristic caste system), which is how the Kindred got them to join them. Since they have bad eyesight, they seem to define whether you're a Quadav or not if you have a shell or not. They believe in, basically a different version of the Altana/Promathia story, and believe in "the wrath of Gu'Dha" (Gu'Dha being the "evil" one). Their story says that people and beastmen are basically brethren. They want revenge on Bastok I think? They appear to be patriarchal (their leader being an Adamantking, and they believe that the world will fall into darkness if he is Gu'Dha returned to them). They also have some extrasensory thing which get disrupted in Movalpolos due to the machinery.

Yagudo Theomillitary: Believe that their female leader (known as the "Manifest") is a reincarnation of their god. I forgot how the Kindred got them to join them... They're highly religious, call people "smoothskin", and can be considered matriarchal. A group of Yagudo known as the Tengu live in the Far East (their homeland?).

Goblins: The seemingly most numerous race on Vana'diel, and might originate from the Far North, since the original smilebringers (the game's version of Santa, except as a whole entire race) are drawn a lot like Goblins. What is under their masks is said to be horrifying. They are one of the smartest races, perhaps only the Ancients and Moblins are smarter. They are against forming big communities, although they will work for anyone for money. They seem to enjoy nasty food, and their food groups consist of "brains, dead things, mushrooms, and chocolate". Probably the second-to-least threatening beastmen race. Maybe third (since there are a lot of Goblin bandits). I'm pretty sure a quest mentions that they are aethist, although my memory is a bit foggy.

Antican Empire: They killed much of the mighty Galkan race. An instrument known as the xhifhut was created to translate the Antican "language". Due to a lack of any aquatic travel, very little participated in the Crystal War.

Sahagin: They seem to have been many tribes across the world before, but most have united now. They worship the elements, and make deities out of legendary serpents and oddly shaped stones. A few of them worship Altana. The Elshimo Sahagin don't have any relations to other sentient beings, although they do trade with the pirates of Norg. The Mamool Ja Sahagin (Mamool Ja aquatics) probably believe in the same stuff as the Mamool Ja. The second or third least threatening beastmen race.

Tonberries: Feared even by other beastmen, there's an inconsitency in their origin, although it could be concluded that the Elshimo Tonberries were Kuluu created by the Crystal Meltdown which mutated much of the creatures of Vana'diel and shifted the world (it also turned animals into beastmen and the Zilart into the five races of people if I remember correctly). The Cryptonberries, who probably probably believe in the same things as the Kuluu did and not in Uggalepih and whatnot, were probably mutated when they asked Diabolos to cleanes their bodies of the Emptiness. Don't seem to like anyone including other beastmen. If the Cryptonberries' beliefs vary by which Pso'Xja tower they live in, it would probably be:

Diabolos's/Central Tower: Have entered Diabolos's realm of Dynamis.
Bahamut's/Northern Tower: Trying to kill all sentient life, excluding gods and avatars, (including themselves?), which is Bahamut's plan.
Phoenix's/Southwestern Tower: Trying to revive Phoenix, whose restoration seems to require a lot of bloodshed.
Carbuncle's/Northeastern Tower: Trying to get the power of the 6 sleeping gods (and try to awaken/befriend them?), which is Carbuncle's plan.
Fenrir's/Southeastern Tower: Unknown (no Tonberries here). Since Fenrir believes everyone should just except their fate that everything must end, they may have taken their lives.
Vahzl/Northwestern Tower: Very, very little Tonberries here. They could be trying to fight the Emptiness.

The only Tonberries that players can talk to regularly are trapped or prisoners. I think they might be immortal or something, unless maybe someone takes their life (they mysteriously survived on a stranded island according to a quest), although this seems to be a normal thing among the Ancients (Zilart/Kuluu/Dawnmaidens).

Gigas: General term for the Giant, Gigas, and Jotunn tribes of the north. They were employed by the Shadow Lord to build Zvahl and aid in the frontlines. They are clearly not so bright, sometimes unable to understand their own "language".

Demons (Kindred): Very little is known about them. The current expansion is hinting at them originating from Hades, and being related to Odin.

Moblins: Tribe of Goblins that, due to a misunderstanding, believe themselves to be children of Promathia and want to convert the Orcs/Quadav/Yagudo away from the Kindred demons. They were originally told about an "iron giant bathed in light" (presumably Alexander), but instead found a statue of Promathia and believed that to be it. They tried to figure out how to work the statue and thus began kidnapping people. Jabbos the Galka went to try and stop the kidnapping, and told them of the story of Promathia, thus accidebtally triggering their quest to convert all beastmen to Promathism or whatever. He now tries to teach them and all visitors in Movalpolos that they were not created by Promathia. Despite that, though, they do seem to "get along" with people, possibly because they feel that Promathia is gonne get rid of them eventually.

Mamool Ja Savages: Talk like Yoda, they do. I believe they also use the term "smoothskin" like the Yagudo. The Sagelord told Gessho, a Yagudo NPC, that they are trying to stop the Empire of Aht Urhgan from destroying their race, although the truth in this is unknown. Their current leader, Gulool Ja Ja, is presumably a chimera of a Mamool Ja fighter and mage, and thus they might just want revenge on the Empire. They are much nicer than most other beastmen (a recurring NPC even having a Mamool Ja friend).

Troll Mercenaries: It seems the Trolls themselves simply want revenge on the Empire for kicking them out of their home. The Halvung Moblins are probably the "evil" guys here. They also talk in parantheses, implying that they have a low voice, and they also seem to talk simpler like chopped up English (well, NPCs call it Vana'dielian <_<) or like "I is dead? But I is the strongest...". I forgot what they called people, but it had something to do with their smaller size. There is a quest with a friendly Troll and Halvung Moblin.

Lamiae/Merrows (Undead Swarm): Created by alchemists, so I guess they just want revenge? They have a handful of benevolent members (if I remember, a quest features a nice Lamia and I think that may be the only one; an earlier quest also features a Hume in love with a Merrow, although it generally points towards her trying to capture him (and the Hume sort of desiring to be captured)).

Qiqirn: The Near Eastern version of Goblins, basically. Like the Goblins, they mostly care about money ("clink-clink" as they call it) and might have an interest in nasty food, too. Although there are Qiqirn bandits, and Qiqirn hired by the other beastman races, these guys are definately the most benevolent beastmen, possibly the most peaceful race in the game. It is unknown what they believe in. They talk very slooowly and tend to drag out vowels like thiiis.

Poroggos: Magically created by some Tarutaru girl long ago who felt bad for the frogs (toads?) that were trampled on in Windurst Waters. Although they learned the common language and wanted to fit in with society, Windurst saw them as a threat and destroyed them. Quite possibly the Mamool Ja knights mentioned. A non-notorious monster Poroggo is actually smaller than a Tarutaru, a rare sight. Fun Fact: I imagine them with a British accent. >_>

There a few other creatures (particularly Fomors and Qutrubs) which could be interpreted as semi-beastmen. Anyway, I guess someone could try to incorporate the non-POV/speculation stuff here into the actual page. --Jopasopa 16:17, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
