Manga

Diplomatic missions in MSK

Hi, I am working on diplomatic missions in Russia, and am trying to enlist the help of Wikipedians in the different Russian cities to provide photos which we can use on this article. As you are Moscow, I was wondering if you may be in the position to be able to take some photos of the various embassies and missions in Moscow, so that we can use them on that article. Step sequence vs. Moves in the field

Hey. Thanks for all your work on figure skating articles. I am a little confused regarding the recent interwiki-linking of Step sequence and Moves in the field between the English and Russian language Wikipedias.

From what I can tell of the Russian article ru:Шаги в фигурном катании, it was initially a correspondance of Moves in the field, as shown from when you created it. You then transfered the interwiki link to Step sequence without changing any content of the Russian page. This is after I created the step sequence page on English-language Wikipedia. I am confused by this.

Was this originally a Russian-language page about step sequences that was interwiki-linked to moves in the field because English-language wikipedia did not contain an equivalent article on step sequences and this is now being corrected? Is this a Russian-language page on moves in the field that is being mapped to step sequences because that is a better match? Or is this a Russian-language page on both moves in the field and step sequences, in which case it doesn't map to either the English-language moves in the field or step sequences? I am further confused because the Russian page contains an image of Johnny Weir performing cross overs as a linking element, not as part of a step sequence.

Thanks for writing and I'm sorry for the confusion. Well, yes, I've created Шаги в фигурном катании and directed the page to moves in the field for two reasons 1) English-language wikipedia did not contain an equivalent article; 2) I don't clearly understand what are moves in the field and not sure whether this term exists in Russian language or not. We had a really long discusssion about moves and after not being able to find equivalent term in Russian desided to link Шаги в фигурном катании there. Also, at that time I thought that maybe steps in English are called moves in the field. :) Шаги в фигурном катании literally means "Steps in figure scating", so Russian article is a bit wider. I know that Steps in figure scating doesn't equal Step sequence, but, well, they are close. Your suggestions? -- DEERSTOP (talk). 20:33, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. From the sound of that, that article is not the equivalant of step sequences, because step sequences refers to the element itself as shown in the protocol (straight line step sequence, circular step sequence, that sort of thing). But I'm not sure if moves in the field is a better choice, since steps in figure skating sounds like it refers to everything that isn't an element. Hello Deerstop, I am not sure whether this image shows Protopopov and Belousova or rather Protopopov and Seyfert. The description of the original image says that the persons depicted are, from left to right: Danzer, Belousova, Marek, Protopopov, Seyfert. Johnny Weir Article Trolling

Please do not add snide and dopey personal opinions to articles ("Some debate his sexuality. Although Weir has never openly talked about his sexuality, it comes into question why a straight man would dress like a swan during the Olympics"). Wikipedia entries are not for you to express your private snarkiness or bigotry, they are for legitimate and SOURCED information.

And when an article has a number of very good photos attached to it, there is no reason to replace them with less-attractive photos just because you found them. 70.16.107.201 (talk) 18:01, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I didn't realise you'd said something on the Talk:Zetsuai 1989 page. The Russian page is better than you know - while the reception section will keep the article from being deleted by well-intentioned deletionists on the English Wikipedia, knowing what the plot's about is far more important and universally applicable - how can you understand Suzuki saying that Takuto's mother is an example of scary women in yaoi unless you know how she's portrayed through the plot? If you'd like some assistance porting over the reception to the Russian Wikipedia, I'd be happy to help you. In order to try and reproduce the bug I would like, if possible, to write me the name of the string you used in Russian. For example is "Date of birth unknown" "Дата рождения неизвестна" in Russian? Because it appears that tis category doesn't exist in ru.wiki: ru:Категория:Дата рождения неизвестна.

Image:Mao Asada 2010 OP Press conference adjusted.jpg on Commons

I'm seriously tempted to revert the changes you made to the image. Yes Mao is more clearly viewable, but the background now is hugely washed out with the vibrant green that was there now looking more like a muddy blue. Case in point, take a look at this image on Getty which clearly shows what the background is supposed to look like. Tabercil (talk) 01:35, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

I did that on purpose. The background was too bright, in my opinion, so I tried to make it pale. What's the problem? It was green, now it is blue, so what? I don't think someone cares about the color of the background. -- deerstop. 11:47, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
I don't about you, but I'm trying to make the image as faithful as possible to what was actually there and be usable to all. Changing the background like that violates that principle. But in the interim, I went back to the original image and tried a slightly different approach and got much better results... take a look at File:Mao Asada 2010 OP Press conference exp.jpg Tabercil (talk) 17:27, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia Stories Project

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"

Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.

This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.

If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!
