February 2021

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Doctorhawkes. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Dominic Purcell have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse. Thanks. Doctorhawkes (talk) 08:36, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Then update the ages instead of leaving them as is DefLeppardRules (talk) 08:59, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The infoboxes on the articles are set up so that their ages automatically update based on their birthday and don't need to be manually updated, which is why your edits were reversed. But if there is something wrong with their ages, please let me know so we can get this sorted out and fixed. Jns4eva (talk) 19:07, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Example Pete Willis of Def Leppard was born February 16,1960 but I look on here 5 days after his birthday and it was still saying he was 60 years old. So I changed it to 61 because it was not updating by itself as you claim it does.

DefLeppardRules (talk) 05:12, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your input, I appreciate you clarifying! I will retract my warnings as it was a miscommunication. I did check the Pete Willis article and it says his age is 61 (with the automatic updates) so it appears the automatic updates are working correctly. Do you have any more examples of where they are not? Jns4eva (talk) 05:42, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Terry Hawkridge is still on 30 it should be 31 now DefLeppardRules (talk) 06:05, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Terry Hawkridge is February 23,1990 and it says 30 and then for February 18,1970 Raine Maida says 50 instead of 51 DefLeppardRules (talk) 06:10, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hawkridge says 31 now. Maybe a delay for US time? Raine Maida is curious, though.
So I did some research and you're absolutely right, the ages were not updating despite the fact that they are supposed to. After checking Template:Birth_date_and_age, I found that this can be relatively common and is fixed by purging the page, either with a blank edit or by adding "?action=purge" to the URL of the article. I've fixed both of the examples you've provided and I hope this helps! Feel free to fix any other errors or if you have any questions, please let me know! Jns4eva (talk) 21:34, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Merrit Gant says 49 instead of 50 he was born February 18,1971 and Trace Cyrus says 31 instead of 32 He was born February 24,1989. DefLeppardRules (talk) 05:35, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also Neil Jordan says 70 instead of 71. He was born February 25,1950. DefLeppardRules (talk) 05:38, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Bolton says 67 instead of 68. He was born February 26, 1953. DefLeppardRules (talk) 05:40, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I will fix those errors for you so you won’t have to do a lot of checking DefLeppardRules (talk) 05:50, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from making test edits to Wikipedia pages, such as the one you made with this edit to Trace Cyrus, even if you intend to fix them later. Your edits have been reverted. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox. Thank you. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:55, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oshwah I am fixing the ages because they don’t update on their own and Jns4eva (talk) said feel free to fix any other errors. DefLeppardRules (talk) 06:00, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Neil Jordan, you may be blocked from editing. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:06, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jns4eva (talk) please tell Oshwah that you said in a message to me feel free to fix any errors. DefLeppardRules (talk) 06:20, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It is explained above how to fix the errors, but that's not what you are doing. Doctorhawkes (talk) 00:12, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How do you delete a user account? I am so done with you people. The way you act to a disabled person who is just trying to change the ages after someone has a birthday. It has not been updating. DefLeppardRules (talk) 03:20, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there DefLeppardRules, I'm sorry this is happening! Please don't feel attacked, there seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding so I will do my best to try and explain what's going on. In my earlier post, I did mention to feel free to fix any errors. But in order to fix the ages, you have to purge the page rather than edit the template with the correct age so that the templates will update correctly (please read WP:Purge for more info on how to do this). I know that you were absolutely doing your best to positively correct errors and there was no ill intentions, but when you edit the ages on the article you accidentally trigger what are known as "abuse filters".
These filters are designed to automatically report certain edits, such as manually changing the ages on artist pages or removing certain templates, and report them so people can look and verify the changes and potentially fix any errors. However, this does not mean the edits are vandalism or intentional errors so often people who watch these changes verify manually and try to inform the user, usually with a warning. That's what happened with User:Doctorhawkes, User:Oshwah and initially myself. However, after our discussion, I realized what had been going on, retracted my warnings and attempted to give you advice on how Wikipedia would prefer you make the changes so this wouldn't keep happening. Unfortunately, I wasn't clear enough on my end and I do apologize sincerely for that. It wasn't my intention to steer you in the wrong direction or make you feel this way. With regards to Oshwah, they were not targeting you but rather came in uninformed of what you were attempting to do and followed Wikipedia's standard procedure of issuing warnings.
I really hope this helps you understand what has been happening and feel a bit better about what's going on. If you still feel Wikipedia isn't for you, you unfortunately cannot delete an account, but you can edit your user page (User:DefLeppardRules) and create it with nothing but the text "{{Retired}}", which will notify everyone that you've left permanently. Personally, I really hope this isn't the case and you change your mind. Please feel free to let me know if you have any more questions or comments. And one last tip if I may, if you tag users in your comments by typing "[[User:Username goes here]]", it will notify them so they can respond, otherwise, they won't see your message unless they watch your talk page (unfortunately, this is what took me so long to reply). Again, I hope this helps. Jns4eva (talk) 08:22, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please change Rod Smallwood’s age from 70 to 71. He was born February 17,1950. Thanks to whoever does this because I don’t know how to do stuff that looks like it is in a code sort of way. DefLeppardRules (talk) 05:25, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Add ages

[edit]

Please stop adding the age to articles. It is produced automatically by the template. Nigej (talk) 16:29, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No it has not been updating correctly. Check my conversations with other users and you will see that it has not been updating correctly DefLeppardRules (talk) 16:31, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You may need to "purge" the pages - see under "more" (top right) you will find "purge". Probably there's a problem with your cache and your looking at an old version of the page. Nigej (talk) 16:34, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don’t know how to do coding stuff DefLeppardRules (talk) 16:35, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Aka Purge I don’t know how to do it to fix these ages DefLeppardRules (talk) 16:36, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You need to find out. Making stupid edits is not the way forward. Nigej (talk) 16:37, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't call their edits stupid. They're just a new user and trying to correct incorrect information. Once they learn how to purge, I'm sure they'll do fine. Jns4eva (talk) 19:12, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am disabled by the way DefLeppardRules (talk) 16:38, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So tell me how do I change the ages using purge? DefLeppardRules (talk) 16:39, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What buttons on the computer or iPod touch do I press to get it to purge? DefLeppardRules (talk) 16:42, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there buddy! An easy way to do a purge is to do what's called a "null edit". Basically, you just have to click the "edit" button and then click "save" without adding anything. This will purge the page and update the age in the template. I know "purge" does sound like a computer programming thing but it's as simple as editing a page and saving it without changing. Hope this helps! Jns4eva (talk) 19:12, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thanks that really worked. Sorry for all the miscommunication. Thanks so much for telling me how to do a null edit DefLeppardRules (talk) 21:49, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anytime! I'm glad that everything is working well and you decided to stick around. Hope to see you around Wikipedia! If you have any questions in the future, feel free to ask! Jns4eva (talk) 06:41, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On my iPod touch or my phone I can’t get it to edit so I can’t get it to do the purge thing DefLeppardRules (talk) 06:45, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New message from Jns4eva

[edit]
Hello, DefLeppardRules. You have new messages at Jns4eva's talk page.
Message added 04:38, 13 March 2021 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.[reply]

Jns4eva (talk) 04:38, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it still says 82 on my end. Not sure why it is acting weird. DefLeppardRules (talk) 05:46, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Responding to the message you left on my page, I'm glad to see it finally updated for you. That's very strange though, I'm not sure why it wasn't updating but I'm glad it fixed itself. Hopefully this was a one time issue! Jns4eva (talk) 07:45, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there! Sorry, I haven't been online in a couple days. It may be possible that your browser cache is loading an older version of the page, which would be causing the discrepancies. On your other devices, try pressing Control + F5 (or Control/Command + R if you're using Safari/Opera) and see if that helps update it. As far as the app goes, I'm not 100% sure how to fix it if it's not showing the correct ages on those nor am I sure how to fix them if this isn't the problem (as I'm not 100% sure what would be causing the discrepancies between your devices). I'll try to take a look at the pages you've listed and see if they're updated or not. Thanks for reaching out though, hopefully this will help. Jns4eva (talk) 07:05, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jns4eva (talk) I don’t have the command or control keys on my phone or iPod touch. On my computer I have done control & F5. Not sure why it does this. DefLeppardRules (talk) 09:04, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I mean Control + F5 I have tried it on my computer. My phone & IPod touch do not even have F5 or anything like it

DefLeppardRules (talk) 09:06, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I did a little bit of research and hopefully found some other ideas. On newer models of iPod/iPhone, you should be able to hold the refresh button to bypass the cache. If not, you might be able to fix it by going into the settings of your iPod/phone, go to Safari (or the web browser you are using) then click "Clear cache". If it asks you to clear your cookies/history as well and you have anything saved like passwords or usernames, don't clear it or it will erase those settings and you'll have to re-enter them. I'll try to see if there's any other easy ways to clear the cache client side but hopefully those will fix the issue. Jns4eva (talk) 04:49, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Stop

[edit]

You need to stop making pointless edits to articles, especially if you're going to undo yourself immediately. Every time you make an edit, that's another version of the article that the Wikipedia servers need to store, which helps no one. I know you're having caching issues, but this isn't the correct way to solve them. – PeeJay 12:33, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

March 2021

[edit]

Please STOP your current editing. As far as I can see, each of your edits is followed by a reversion back to the original article content. This is very disruptive and unhelpful, as other editors have to follow in your trail to ensure that you have not vandalised the article. As I say, please STOP.
